Mysterious PlayStation 3 Slim listing appears on Amazon.de [update]

A listing has been found on the German Amazon shop for "PlayStation 3 Konsole slim." There are no other details on the listing -- no date, no picture, no price, and even the platform is listed as "platform independent." The listing is so new and so devoid of info that nobody has even posted any user reviews of this nonexistent product.

With all the stuff we've heard about the supposed Slim, we have no doubt that it is, or will be, a real product -- but this Amazon listing does little to convince. We will, however, keep checking Amazon for more info about the Slim, whenever we log back in to see if Starcraft: Ghost is back in stock.

Update: To be clear, the image that has appeared on the German Amazon shop was submitted by a user and not by the product's manufacturer. Sorry, folks!

I'm remaining calm. I don't 'need' a 3 until God of War III comes out. I'm just sitting back and waiting for the price drop / slim to be announced and then I'll start getting anxious.

This is not posted by Amazon, it's by another merchant. Anyone could post this. Doesn't mean anything.

It also means the postage on this imaginary item will be extortionate, so watch out guys.

There have been so many pictures of a ps3 slim over the past 3 years and I will wait to get excited or talk much about it, when its officially announced.

first im sure there are still millions and millions of 'big' ps3's still waiting to be sold, and im not sure they are ready to release a ps3 slim now with as low a failure rate as the current ps3 and for the same or a lower price.

a slim ps3 at a higher price or with tech issues would have a negative and reversing impact on the market sony is trying to dive into...

but I may be 100% wrong and the sony announcement may be around the corner too....

Hmm... I wonder if a slim will be cheaper to manufacture than the ps3's now. If so, they could drop the price to about $250.

IMO it will cost more now...

it will be a few more years before a slim could be less than the current ps3 sku IMO, so i believe they wont release it for some time, but i can be wrong........

putting blu ray and all the things a ps3 has now plus the large HDD in such a small space without heat/technical issues is going to be really hard to accomplish also and would have a negative impact, so they have to be sure the machine would work as good as the current ps3 with such a low fail rate.

Not really. They've been evolving the motherboard and chips since the PS3 launched, so much so that the board has shrunk considerably. They have consolidated alot of components also. The chips themselves have gotten down to 45nm processes, which makes them run cooler and use less energy; the upshot for manufacturing is the same die sizes have a greater yield as a result.

dec is the month i forgot the date but the slim model i guess is coming and my contact in EA was right the ps3 slim will be 160 gb and my contact also said it will be 199.99

The only way I'd buy the slim over the original would be if it had backward compatability.

backward compatabitly is being worked on by sony to have all systems be backward via software update

Backward compatability would be great, I could finally unhook my PS2 and lessen the cable mess that upsets my girlfriend so. Although considering the pricing of the PSP Go lets no get too excited. Perhaps they'll launch the slim at the same price as the current PS3 arguing that that is a price cut......

Surely they cannot drop the price lower than that of the PSP Go? Otherwise they will have real problems justifying why a product with a much smaller feature set retails for less than their flagship home console.

so they've just got round to bringing the price of the PS3 down to something sane then they are going to jack it up again with a new slim version! (see the psp go for ref) mark my words!

the PS2 Slim was PURE PROFIT when it launched in '04....(I think)...why launch a PS3 slim until that will be the case?? Thats why I have been overlooking all this slim talk for the time being

Of course, amazon has a history of listing products that are only rumored. They have listed "future" products that weren't released too. I particularly recall them announcing iWork '07 for january of 07 (get it). apple told them to take it down. amazon relisted it as "Macworld release 1". The program doesn't exist. Just saying, wait for something more real than a foreign, undated, listing of a product with no picture or price. It's meaningless.

So we know two things:

PS3 Slim is coming soon, maybe even by the end of this year.

One of the consoles will most likely be $250.

i doubt it will be 199.99 like some are saying. Thats way to cheap and i dont think sony could afford that. I would think if any prive drop occured it would be 299.99

The 70% reduction in manufacturing costs that sony announced is probably because of the slim model. Which means the slims are much cheaper to make than the present ones. I'm wondering what did Sony take out, if anything at all, to make it that much cheaper. Of course it is slimmer in the body but are any other features removed? Like maybe the built in wifi? That would cut off about $50 to $100 right there. If they did remove stuff then the present ps3 model may be a better buy.

The listing isn’t even for the ‘PS3 Slim’.. It was posted by an Amazon Merchant and not by Amazon itself.. The merchant says:

Which says that they are NOT selling a PS3 Slim but rather PS3 60GB with full backwards compatibility + 50 demos on the hard drive and receipt for the remaining warranty

Oops. Didn't see the update. The pic looks real tho. Same shape kind of, and not very different from my original, only smaller.

Confirmation received by a Sony sales representative in Germany. PS3 Slim will be out by end of August, all shops have to place their orders now!

Amazon.de just took the listing down.. Sony must have complained..

There ended up being 2 different Marketplace sellers both selling used 60GB PS3s..

The reviewer basically admits he is joking on the 3rd comment page after being called out he says “Lass mir doch meinen verdammten Spaß ;)” which means “Just let me have my dammed fun ;)”..
