I know it probably wouldn't be good but...

I'd so like to play a Heat video game.

This should never be made into a game. Games just cannot convey the same themes, aesthetic and mood of the film. They're two different mediums, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

What are you going to turn it into? A third person cover shooter with regenerating health. When your ally is down, you could tag him back in, and help him back on his feet, and during previews, the worthless producer could whore out a line about how he's so stoked because it's exactly like when Kilmer gets hit in the film. And Game Informer will give it a cover page, and write nothing but gushing praise, because they got the exclusive first look.

It would be a travesty, there would never be a chance in hell the studios would allow such a farcical treatment of their property in cinema.

Yet, because it's a game, and thus a "lesser medium" in their eyes - all they see is the cashflow. But they're right, because you suckers still buy it in your droves.

If we could only be as smart as you. Must be rough trying to squeeze in posts here between curing cancer and unifying the laws of physics. Thanks for taking some time out of your busy and important day to share with us your brilliant opinions about video games and what is and isn't possible because we all know that if YOU can't think of way to make a game based on the movie Heat then it must be IMPOSSIBLE for anyone else to do so.

Schnoogs, in future, make your point - and don't waste the majority of your rhetoric on trying to dragging down coherent arguments to your scumbag sublevel. You may prefer flippant one liners on the internet, others don't.

Film and games are two completely different mediums. They each have their own strengths and weaknesses, there are things you can do in one, that would be impossible in the other.

I'm not the only one who wishes developers would go out and make games, instead of continually trying to ape cinema.

while it's true that games cant do things films cant, i really dont think mood, aesthetic and themes arent those things. In fact those are the things games can do really well. In fact i really cant think of anything games cant do that films can to be honest

Randy Pitchford said this statement more than two months ago, and you guys are reporting on it just now? Or do you have a new source?

I watched that live Gamespot show when it was happening, he mentioned that production never started. I don't know if "Gearbox gives up on Heat" is the right way to say it. I guess the "kinda" at the end of the headline justifies it.

I'll one up you:

"Don't get attached to anything you can't walk out on in 30 seconds if you feel the heat around the corner."

GTA4 basically recreated the bank shoot out scene anyways along with stuff from The French Connection, Godfather, Miami Vice, Carlito's Way, and probably many others I didn't catch.

I just talked myself into dusting off the game to go bowling with Roman. I'll be back in a few hours...

They should make a game based on Scent of a Woman where it consists of nothing but finding the best way to berate Chris O' Donnel.

holy shit you just made my day.

heat is definitely the BEST crime/action film i have ever seen. michael mann is a great director, and the bank robbery scene is by FAR the best action scene ever.... no stupid CGI .... no green screens ... just an unbelievable shootout with amazingly accurate sound.

i also am hoping that they will do a proper HD telecine so the quality is true HD :)

If someones gonna do a film->game of something that old, they may as well do the Pulp Fiction game.
Wii remote/analogue stick section where you have to stick the needle in that bitches heart. Beat-em-up section where you beat the crap out of that guy in the pawn shop, followed by sword-fight-to-prevent-bumming sequence.

It writes itself.

It could work... but i worry it'd just be a compilation of the action scenes from the robberies, and miss everything between. Still, it'd be nice if they could capture the visual style of the movie... make a nice contrast to all the brown games out now.

But, if they were gonna make it, they should probably have made it 10 years ago... these days half the kids aren't gonna even remember Heat (:-() so i'm not sure it'd sell all that great.

Best Movie ever.

Game? Um I'm guessing that it wouldn't do the movie justice. Somebody should just make a MP mod for the FPS flavor of the week set in the LA streets for the after bank robbery scene. That would be just fine by me.

there's already games that pay tribute to the bank heist scene, so the best part of a potential game is covered. i like the movie alot, but there are times where i just watch the action. maybe thats a good way to make the game, make SE blu-ray with the movie and have the special features be the action scenes in game form

Not really, I enjoyed Heat. But I can see why some people would think it's nothing special.

Mann's films (with the exception of The Insider and Mohicans) have all been the same moody "stare-fests".

They basically only robbed 1 bank. there was another job earlier in film in which they felt the "heat" and walked away. A game based on this film would have to use it as inspiration only...I'm guessing it'd turn out like a Godfather game...Otherwise you'd only have basically 1 mission or so...
