Well, that took long enough! Toy News Online is reporting that Impact International has secured the rights to produce plush Sackboy figures -- and a whole mess of other goodies -- for Sony. The UK, Ireland and the Middle East will be getting "plush items, bean toys, mugs, bobbleheads and bags" based on the iconic figure from LittleBigPlanet.
Additionally, Brazier and Co. are on board to make "PVC figurines," and even a "limited edition-themed version of Sackboy" -- whatever that could mean (other than a higher price tag). The various Sackboy-themed items will be hitting stores this October. Various other Sony IP (God of War, InFamous, MotorStorm, WipeOut, Killzone and Resistance) will be getting the poster treatment by way of GB Eye Limited, though no date has been set for the release of those. We'd get upset that this stuff wasn't announced for the US but, ya know, we work on the Internet. It's a global community, folks!
[Thanks, Trix_Bol!)

How about a chain, covered in rust, salt, acid, fire ants, and the tears of children.

wow sony is really late on this one. This should of have been done when the game was coming out bcuz they do look very mainstreamish. I guess they can still market the game with a long shelf life strategy, I would def buy a plush for my biz desk.

Eyes a touch too small and the head isn't the right shape, but that's an admirable attempt none-the-less. Strangely enough, Sackboy doesn't look like an easy design to make.
This one - http://www.mediamolecule.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/sackboyknit2.jpg - is the best one I've seen, probably because the dragon costume hides much of the head shape.
This one - http://www.mediamolecule.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/sackboyknit1.jpg - made by the same lady as the dragon one (the mother of an MM employee), again shows the difficulty of getting the head right.

I've never played LBP, but I really can't understand why it's such a big thing. I really can't see the fascination with it. I know it's a casual game, but surely after the first 10 levels you make it starts to get a bit repetitive. Is there a story to it? Objectives? As far as I can see, it looks like just a 2D map editor that would go with another game.
I stress again that I have never played this, nor even own a PS3... I'm just curious.

It's not a map editor - it's a game with a map editor.
The game comes with a full single player 'campaign' already on the disc, as well as loads of mini-game levels based around the game mechanic.
And because there is a level creator, and the PS3 can connect to the internet, everyone shares their levels. There are now over 1 million user created levels to play through, some of them incredibly good.
Actually using the level creator yourself is an optional extra. I know plenty of people who play LBP all the time, but don't go near the level creator. They just play the single player levels and the levels made by other people.

@ Hyams
You explained pretty well what LBP is, however, I think you missed an important point:
"And because there is a level creator, and the PS3 can connect to the internet FOR FREE, everyone can play and share levels".
@ Alex
This is one of the most (if not the most) innovative game this generation on any platform as it opened the way for user generated content. PCs have been doing it for a while, but it had never been done this way before on a console.

I was like you Alex before. I couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about. They hyped the game to the moon and every interblogger made it sound like the game was the greatest creation since water. So I went to my friend's place a few times to try it.
Played the "campaign" a bit and it didn't do much. Went back again and played some of the user generated levels and, again, couldn't see what all the fuss was about. For all the hype the game got and how much it was talked up, I was extremely disappointed.
So, i thought I'd give it a few months, and go and try it again, with a fresh perspective. When I asked my friend if I could come over and try it again, he told me he sold it a few weeks beforehand, because he had grown bored of it. Neither of us could figure out why it's so popular. Just people buying into the hype and marketing, I guess. Happens with music and movies, so why not games?

I guess if you don't like playing, creating, and sharing stuff then this game isn't for you.
But, the levels that people make are incredible! Have you ever played in a carnival, then went to a haunted house right after?
Have you played in Super Mario's World, then the next level is stealth-based Metal Gear Solid action?
In this game, if you take the time, the sky's the limit in creation and game play. If you like Platforming games (like Super Mario Bros. and who doesn't?), you should enjoy this game.

Looked at some of the "favorites" or "top 10" or whatever you call them at the time. They were somewhat interesting, but not to make me want to try more then I already had. Cute costumes and re-creating other games just doesn't do it for me. I guess that is why this game isn't for me.

Ozzman, not to call you out or anything, but it really sounds like you're hating on it.
I mean, you don't have to try so hard to keep someone from playing it... If you played the game past the top 10 or whatever, you would find that there are unique levels, too.
What more could you want from a game? A FPS? Please.

Ah, exactly what i was expecting. Heaven forbid someone not like LBP, they must be hating on it and some sort of FPS-loving kid. Was wondering how long it would take until this "conversation" would devolve into name calling. Because I have an opinion that differs from certain peoples, and/or don't like a game that is popular, I should be "called out" as a "hater". Typical.
I'm glad that you, and the 10% of PS3 owners that bought the game enjoy it and have started your own little sharing community. However myself, and the apparently 20 million+ PS3 owners who didn't buy the game, apparently do not like the game. If that makes us all "HATERS" in your eyes, so be it. I was giving my personal opinion of the game to Alex, who seemed to be thinking along the same lines I was about the game. Please forgive us for forming our own opinions....won't happen again, I promise.

Everyone has different tastes. Personally, I love LBP.
On the most simple level, it's your standard 2D platformer. Go from left to right, avoiding obstacles along the way.
But the community have taken this, and subverted it. You have your standard platforming levels, but then you also have levels designed around solving puzzles, levels based on racing, levels based on surviving an onslaught of obstacles, levels designed as 2D shooters. You have levels that tell a story, or make you laugh, or make you marvel at their technical excellence. The community is constantly finding new ways to use the tools at its disposal to make new and creative and awesome levels to experience.
It's just, you know, fun.
The fact that I enjoy the creative aspect is also a bonus for me. I've sunk hours into the level creator. (Currently working on my second level.)

Where's the toy for AMERICA?? I have three nephews and nieces who are dying for a Sackdoll. As consumer driven as we are, it's hard to believe there aren't any sackboys or girls around. This is the second time we've been shafted, since I believe the UK got some limited edition dolls when the game was released. Epic fail, Sony.
