Patch to fix Call of Duty 4 multiplayer exploit 'in the works'

There's good news and slightly-less-good news for the many fans of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare's multiplayer. The good news comes from Infinity Ward community manager Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling via his twitter feed: the developer is onto the recently discovered multiplayer exploits that unscrupulous players are using to cheat their way to victory. The slightly-less-good news is that the fix is "in the works," meaning there's no definite ETA for it.

Still, we'd have to imagine Infinity Ward has been hard at work on the patch -- we just hope it comes up with something very special for whoever discovered and used the exploit. We'll keep you updated as we hear more, but hey, Robert, you know how to reach us ...

No. I don't know about Xbox360 players, but very recently there's been a "hack" on the ps3 which allows you to apparently fly everywhere and become invincible. It's become really bad where as each time I get into a game, there's always at least one person hacking and flying around. Thank god it's getting fixed. It was starting to ruin the game for me.

Oh right. I did notice people sniping on top of buildings. It was really annoying.

I still think that grenades and spawning need to be completely balanced. Dying the moment I spawn by a guy throwing a grenande randomly is NOT fun.

Apparently, Activision's idea of "balancing" a game is releasing a total-conversion mod and charging another $60 for it.

maybe they can add dualshock3 support and trophies in the ps3 version in the patch. jerks.

@Jampirow: This is why grenades were removed (before release) from Team Fortress 2. That's not to say it doesn't have other balance issues, but at least there aren't any grenades.

I think that the exploits are on Creek and Overgrown. It can make the game frustrating to have to avoid a whole area. Btw, if you know someone has glitched into the spot on overgrown, shoot them with an rpg. It usually gets them.

wow, really? i haven't played COD4 in nearly a month, i guess i should go back for a bit to check this out.

can they ban a PS3? You can make as many PSN accounts as you want, right?

From what I've seen, they're only invincible while they're flying around, but they don't seem to be able to fire while they're flying either. Once they land (which can be inside solid objects) they can fire, but they're also vulnerable. If the land inside solid objects, they can see out unimpeded, but we can't see them (but you can still kill them with carefully placed grenades and if you have the "deep impact" perk)

To be honest, almost everyone I've seen using this hack has been absolutely terrible. You'd figure cheating would give them an advantage, and it does as far as getting the drop on a couple people, but they never come in first and RARELY are in the upper half at the end of a match. They're certainly irritating, but I just get all the more pleasure out of killing them.

Yes the admins can ban you. for lets say..this hack? as well taking out an RPG in hardcore mode and killing your own team like a numnut :p although its fun sometimes.

No they can litterally turn off your PS3's ability to go online entirely.

can you do same thing on PC?

Kind of late to be patching a game that's been around for a while now, unless they can retroactively wipe the stats of the cheaters who have been using them.

nah i seen this on the 360 while playin on overgrown a guy was glitched under the gate outside that house were every one snipes on top of, he killed me and in the killcam you can see he was under the map.

I have been an unfortunate victim to this on the 360. Being the arse that I am, I filed a complaint...Monty Python style.

I've seen this on the 360 as well.. same as the other person said outside the gate/house, near the walk up, under the map. It's happened on Ambush as well, near the CT left hand side.

This hack just started becomming a problem, as more and more people started to do it. Its being able to fly around and go through buldings and what not. Its called UFO mode, OR GOD mode. witch ever you choice to name it.

Ive only seen it on the ps3, and not on xbox since i have the game for both. but I think IW favors xbox over ps3 so thats why they said they are patching it for both systems.

I believe its actually called "noclipping" and pretty much every game you join someone will be doing it, and it's not just that but also alot of the servers are bugged and when you join everyone go into spectating mode and you can't even leave the game. It's totally ruined cod.

I stopped giving a damn when the first map pack sucked. I'm just sayin, dont say something is comin and sweep it under the rug.

the first map pack didn't suck. Kill house was an awesome map. Chinatown was a great map although it was recycled from cod2. and that broadcast map was a great very needed map.

Why are devlopers so late why are they only releasing statement now. Me and the L3nG crew have been suffering at the hands of 'FLYERS' for 2 weeks now. Everyone caught using this disgraceful cheat should have there IP banned as many are making new accounts just to cheat

i actually tried it myself it sucks i mean it's good for just fucking around and everything as far as competition wise those that were cheating using it when i was playing against them were getting killed easily by me. mostly noobs that use it i assume serious gamers stay away from that shit that i respect it

I don't mind the flyers in team deathmatch but in hq they glitch into the hq and they can shoot you but you can;t shoot them. Anyone having trouble with flyers remember that for the flyer to kill you they have to come out of UFO mode so that is when u kill them

Why do people have to be such dicks? Seiriously. Why do have to cheat? If you use cheat codes on a single player game because their is a tough ass boss you nor your nerdy friend Ed can't beat, its ok. But, to hack an online game and pwn someone is down right cowardly. Most people there own their status fair and square. It's like American baseball now.

You are right! Cheaters like to give excuses on how they should be able to do anything in their game, but the fact is that when you play online you are playing in other players game. it is not the same thing to cheat a cheating AI than to cheat to other players who are playing by the same rules that should apply to every player in the match. their excuses are only to deny what they really are: a bunch of cowardly sissies.

I stopped playing a long time ago due to people clipping through the map and shooting at me from under the map or through a wall.
