It's annoying that it'll take a handful of expansion before Sims 3 has as much content as Sims 2 does now :l

Can't they add in the new gameplay additions, like shops, etc., into Sims 3 at launch ?

It's the standard Sims formula:

Release broken standalone game.
Take forever to fix broken standalone game.
Announce first of 15 expansions 2 months after standalone release.
Release subsequent yet broken expansions.
Collect monies.
Announce new Standalone game.
Repeat.

Nope, because it's already launched.

It would be interesting if they started using the SDK to do microtransactions within the game. I'm sure the App Store community would go nuts at EA for charging for an update, but who knows.

I picked up Sims 3 on the ol' iPhone and had a good time with it... for about a week. Now it is dead to me (maybe I just have a short attention span with my iPhone games)... I will not be picking this up unless it is dirt cheap (which I doubt)... Bookworm was only a buck this weekend and I've been having a blast with it!

I would rather take some of the better expansions of 2. Like Apartments and making magic and maybe free time.Or did the last Apartments come with magic? I forget.

World adventures doesn't entice me at all. I can always skip it until there are expansions I like and buy up the back catalog for more than half off like I did last time.

Or you could have just waited until next year and bought a Complete Collection for $29.99.

I hope you're talking about the Sims 2, Storm Eagle, because there's no way in hell a Sims 3 Complete Collection will be ready next year. They'll have expansions rolling out for this one for a while...

If they had done that, you would be whining that they releasing the same stuff than before. Exploring Egypt's Tombs and stuff like that seems like a blast! Seriously, even the screenshots are awesome! Photography skill? That's something new! I haven't played TS3 much but now, I want to go play again just to get my family good enough to get into those exotic locales!

Atleast your wife is still playing her copy. I bought my wife the game the day it came out and I think she's played it 4 times. She got so frustrated with the fact that you couldn't speed up time fast enough that she got bored with it and lost interest. I know they've kinda fixed it but she doesn't even care anymore.

Well some of us aren't as lucky Chris...my wife has been playing since day one. Luckily she has begun to reach the same level of 'cynical gamer' as the rest of us and realized that EA is greedy and milk their games for everything they can.

It warmed my heart to hear her say: "WTF! What kind of bonus is this crap? I get TWO towns now and enough points to buy a freakin couch! What a ripoff!"

I don't think it'll take long for a few more expansions to roll out and get put into a little bundle package. I'll just wait it out.

Build a 2nd computer; that's what I did before Sims 3 came out because I didn't want to have to fight with my wife in order to play TF2. =)

In my case, I built a stronger machine for my use - but in any event, you can build something pretty cheap and do a swap (since Sims 3 isn't as hardware demanding as something like Crysis). Worst case, buy a $299 Dell and add a cheap gpu like a 4830 or 4770.

@Shoti: It looks like most DLC items for the Sims cost about 100 points, meaning she could get 10 couches as her bonus..., or outfits, or whatever she see's fit to spend them on.

Y'know, I know the idea of microtransactions has found traction in Asia, especially in free-to-play MMORPGs. But like an American at a buffet line I hate a la carte pricing. They already wrested hundreds of dollars from me to pay for my wife's 4 year Sim habit with Stuff packs and expansions.*

I play Sims for a bit when a new one comes out until I remember there isn't really a plot and the Machiavellian manipulations of virtual dolls wears out. But in that time frame I like a fixed price for a set of items I may or may not use. I know its more lucrative to a la carte the crack addicts, but all it does for me is tempt me to return to piracy.

*Considering my own game expenditures, I think the money on 1 game for that length of time is well worth it
