Ubisoft sees Avatar as 'world-changing,' compares to Harry Potter
Having left EA and joined Ubisoft, Murray Pannell is finally getting out and about to promote Ubisoft's upcoming titles. One of its biggest is the tie-in to James Cameron's upcoming movie, Avatar. Pannell recently spoke about the IP to MCV, commenting, "Avatar looks set to be a world-changing kind of cinema given its pedigree and elements like the 3D." Pannell also compared work on the game to his time spent working on the first Harry Potter game for EA, which he described as "an incredible entertainment phenomenon."
Obviously, Ubisoft hopes to attain the same success with Avatar as EA did with the Harry Potter games, which have become a staple for the games giant. If that's going to happen, we have one suggestion: don't give James Cameron any monologues.

Needs more hype.
Thief @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:20PM
After listening to James Camerons 8 hour speech on this ... thing... during Ubisoft presser at E3, I no longer care for this piece.
Paul @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:25PM
Wait....Isn't M. Knight Shalaman Making the avatar movie?
Technological advances aren't the reason Harry Potter changed the world. Good writing that got children to read books is why harry potter was a success.
vidGuy @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:33PM
"Isn't M. Knight Shalaman Making the avatar movie?"
No, but M. Night Shyamalan is ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M._Knight_Shamalyman#The_Last_Airbender
Hyams @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:35PM
This isn't the Avatar: The Last Airbender film though. This is a different Avatar.
Giroro @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:37PM
There are two movies named Avatar. James Cameron's Avatar has nothing to do with that cartoon.
Chibi Chaingun - blackhivemedia.com @ Aug 3rd 2009 5:00PM
The Last Airbender movie (which has dropped the Avatar name) is not even in the same league as James Cameron's AVATAR. We're talking about a legendary sci-fi filmmaker's new movie vs. a gimmicky director doing an adaptation of a Saturday morning cartoon.
J-Link @ Aug 3rd 2009 3:37PM
The only world changing thing about Avatar was that long ass speech by James Cameron. That speech single handedly killed my intrest in this movie and the ubisoft conference.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Aug 3rd 2009 3:41PM
Then read the IGN article on it. They pretty much compared the visual effects of Avatar to what Miyazaki did to 2d animation. Got me pretty interested in it.
Obie @ Aug 3rd 2009 3:51PM
Really? It did the opposite for me, I am surprised there is no official trailer out for this one yet.
Chris Are @ Aug 3rd 2009 3:54PM
@ Obie
The trailer will be released the 21st of this month. Can't for this movie.
Giroro @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:34PM
Can't what for this movie?
fred @ Aug 3rd 2009 7:41PM

ArchiGamer 2.0 [Wiizer Sweatshop Human Resources] @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:15PM
I'm sorry, but wearing casual spring dresses is strictly against company policy, please either wear a formal black dinner dress, a flirty casual dress, or a modern white, floral design wedding gown.
Moptimus Slime (Leader of Princess Griffins Royal Guard, Co-founder of Wiizers Sweatshop, Long Name Aficionado) @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:17PM

MystileArmor [Wiizer Sweatshop Bathwater and Sam Raimi Specialist] @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:45PM
That last one was directed towards Paul. I bet he works for a competitor in the sweatshop business.
Longhorn (Sweatshop Infiltrator) @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:47PM
Thanks Archi your rules and guidelines should come in handy, wink wink ;)

Paul is just bitter because we fired him.....
.....from a cannon.....
....to a volcano....
MystileArmor [Wiizer Sweatshop Bathwater and Sam Raimi Specialist] @ Aug 3rd 2009 5:28PM
I think Paul is just more upset cause Paul's mom works in the Wiizer sweatshop.
We have to have some sort of mascotte and a dead horse seems to fit the idea.
alienterrorist @ Aug 3rd 2009 9:12PM
I also need a job after being fired from fox for saying news that was considered "important". Can I get one
PedoJokerBear (aka Deeznuts) @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:24PM
new employee
vidGuy @ Aug 3rd 2009 3:42PM
The use of "world-changing" pretty much guarantees epic fail.
Thief @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:21PM
Not only is it only "world changing" but it's also a "Halo Killer" and an "Oblivion Killer" as well!
Mr Khan @ Aug 3rd 2009 3:45PM
A bit full of themselves, aren't they?
Grammar freak @ Aug 3rd 2009 3:50PM
3D was lame in the 50s and it's lame now.
Blank-Mage @ Aug 3rd 2009 3:56PM
But Avatar supposedly has hot alien blue chicks, don't we support that?
MystileArmor [Wiizer Sweatshop Bathwater and Sam Raimi Specialist] @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:04PM
Only if they're ass up, face in the pillow!
Blank-Mage @ Aug 3rd 2009 5:53PM

Can't wait for the 40 min intro done by Cameron!!
MystileArmor [Wiizer Sweatshop Bathwater and Sam Raimi Specialist] @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:05PM
...in 3D.
He already spoiled the movie/game once, now he'll do it while being all up in your face.
Chester @ Aug 3rd 2009 3:59PM
i still have zero faith in this!
Reinard @ Aug 3rd 2009 3:59PM
Tell me I'm not the only one getting really fucking tired of hearing about how "amazing" this movie is "supposed to be." Let /us/ be the judge of that, and stop patting your own goddamn backs.
Reuben @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:11PM
I agree completely. The hype for this movie and how "revolutionary" it will be is so over the top that there is no way in hell that it can live up to it's extraordinary expectations. Maybe it'll be great, hell, maybe it'll even be fantastic, but it will never be the godsend that it's being totted as.
Jon @ Aug 3rd 2009 3:59PM
How is Harry Potter world changing ? In terms of movies i would say The Original Matrix or The Lord of the Rings were world changing recent films
Hyams @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:08PM
It started a Young Adult fiction revolution?
Yeah, it didn't do much for films, but when it comes to books, you can't say Harry Potter didn't do anything.
Josh @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:00PM
I for see Avatar being the biggest block buster let down when it comes out. I wont even make $70 million
and 3D is used way to much in movies these days and to me the 3D they are using sucks. Watched UP in 3D and I preferred the 2D version. 3D ruins movies for me
