UK chart get: Wii Sports Resort soars

If they weren't buying games labeled Wii, they were buying things with the EA logo. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 is at the number three spot, followed by Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince and Fight Night Round 4.

Almost picked up the last copy at the local Best Buy. I decided to save it as a birthday gift someone could get me. I'm just frothing at the mouth for Batman this month, that's all I know.
MystileArmor [Wiizer Sweatshop Bathwater and Sam Raimi Specialist] @ Aug 3rd 2009 9:55AM
He bit you too huh? Well, alot of bats have rabies so it's not that strange.
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 3rd 2009 9:54AM
Disappointing, but not surprising given what's usually at the top of the UK charts.
JXCgunrunna @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:02AM
Please explain how this is disappointing? I find Wii Sports Resort to be a very enjoyable game and the MW+ to be some pretty cool tech.
Maybe from now on, you should play the game with an open mind before you look like a dumbass on the internet.
Bowser Rogozhin: Death of a Ladies Man @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:02AM
Bitter tears much?
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:05AM
It's always disappointing to see a casual game or minigame compilation at the #1 spot. Makes me sigh at humanity, but like I said it was totally expected so it's just a big "meh" situation.
Rob @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:12AM
Has it ever occurred to you that most people probably like this stuff, and not the kind of "hardcore" games you like?
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:15AM
Yes it has, and I'm also aware at how stupid people are when it comes to video games. It's the main reason I never tried to work at Gamestop, I couldn't deal with all the tards that come in there trying to buy garbage.
JXCgunrunna @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:20AM
Actually Tmac, you would be perfect for Gamestop.
Rob @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:22AM
Sooo... Because people like this stuff, and not your stuff, that makes them all stupid? So if you liked board games instead, would you call people stupid for playing say, Sorry! or Monopoly instead of Risk?
Bowser Rogozhin: Death of a Ladies Man @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:25AM
You can't reason with toddlers, they're simply irrational. Just send the kid to the naughty step and hope he learns that acting in a belligerent manner is not the answer to his woes.
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:25AM
Not necessarily. People like RTS games but I don't, but I respect that cause it's an actual game with lots of effort put in. People who get enjoyment out of the most basic and boring "game" however, I don't. Sends the wrong message to developers out there.
Rob @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:29AM
Or maybe it sends the message that this makes money with this particular group of people, therefore it is profitable to make these games. And before you say it I highly doubt they will stop making "hardcore" games because of Wii Resort, just wanted to head that off.
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:33AM
That's the exact message that shouldn't be sent out to developers. Thankfully, everyone but Nintendo fails at making successful casual games so it's not going to become the norm. It also helps that there are companies with integrity out there like Bioware, Bethesda, Infinity Ward etc
Rob @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:35AM
So, making money is a bad thing?
Rob @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:36AM
Also if you failed to notice everyone is going crazy over Natal and Sony's wand thing, which is motion technology. Can you seriously tell me how Natal would work with FPS's and other games?
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:37AM
When it's to the detriment of the industry as a whole, and when it sacrifices quality for the quick casual cash in...yes.
Rob @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:39AM
Then I guess you must really hate Hollywood.
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:42AM
Not really a big movie fan so what they do doesn't really bother me. It's no secret they've run out of ideas though.
Rob @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:45AM
Then you better get used to these happening in the video game industry, because they want to be like the movie industry. You know how people call MGS4 a movie? Well for every masterpiece of a movie, there will be 10 of these quick cash in's, maybe more. If every movie was like Citizen Kain then many people would not watch. Even Citizen Kain did poorly when it first premiered. It was only after many years that people decided it was great, and mostly to seem deep and cultured.
Storm Eagle [Wiizer Sweatshop R&D] @ Aug 3rd 2009 11:09AM
I always find it interesting how people use the argument "Well, whatever makes them money" or "It's making them a butt load of money so good for them." You would think the one's making these statements were getting some of this cash and they're not, they're the one's throwing it away in some cases and they seem to think that's a "good thing". Sure, it stimulates the industry. But if I have to sacrifice my hard-earned dollars on a piece of junk game (I'm NOT referring to Sports Resort, BTW...just in general) to keep the industry afloat, why should I be the one to suffer the consequences? I think Midway learned that the hard way.
Rob @ Aug 3rd 2009 11:23AM
Capitalism is built on the backs of the casual, if that wasn't the case then would there be so many romantic comedies? Plus making money allows for them to make better games, I mean if not for the casuals buying casual games do you think Nintendo would have been able to make Mario Galaxy? Also Ubisoft seems to be making a killing in the market, which is serving them well.
Hyams @ Aug 3rd 2009 11:27AM
I think you should be angrier about the Harry Potter game than Wii Sports Resort.
WSP may be a mini-game collection, but it's a well put together one that is, you know, fun. (Haven't tried it myself, though; just going by reviews, and my experience with the original Wii Sports.)
Harry Potter, on the other hand, is just a bad game. It's shovelware, yet its outselling just about everything else.
Storm Eagle [Wiizer Sweatshop R&D] @ Aug 3rd 2009 11:28AM
I don't consider Mario a casual game. He wasn't casual in the days of the NES or the SNES when it was only the hardcorest of gamers that even picked up a controller. Not to mention that SMG get be pretty difficult when it wants to be. As far as UBI goes, they're an exception because they are a staple in the gaming industry. They've been doing games the right way (and still do) for a long time, and they keep their casual games under control. So as long as their Imagine series continues to fund the next Ghost Recon, I'm all for it.
Mr Khan @ Aug 3rd 2009 11:33AM
I don't think Rob was saying that, i think he was saying that Nintendo uses it's purely casual (Touch Generations) series in order to fund games like Mario Galaxy, not that Galaxy itself is one.
Rob @ Aug 3rd 2009 11:37AM
@Storm Eagle
As Khan said, I was not calling Mario Galaxy, or Mario in general, Casual, I was stating that casual games probably provided the funding for Mario Galaxy, sorry for the confusion.
Storm Eagle [Wiizer Sweatshop R&D] @ Aug 3rd 2009 11:41AM
@Everyone Oh I know. I'm just rambling. It will pass. :)
Cody @ Aug 3rd 2009 11:53AM
LMAO whats that tmac? Can't see your posts!! So... faded!
Kind of like your "arguments". So tired and faded. Yet you are pretty persistent in your stance for a kid that doesn't have his driver's license yet. Of course, the persistence you bestow on here might also have something to do with the fact that you are unemployed as well.
Let's see here, casuals gaming market = HUGE.
Core gaming market = not even half of before mentioned casuals market.
Wii Sports Resort = Really good game that appeals to BOTH markets audience due to its accessibility AND depth.
tmac = whiney little bitch that lives with his parents.
MystileArmor [Wiizer Sweatshop Bathwater and Sam Raimi Specialist] @ Aug 3rd 2009 9:56AM
I'll bet you a 1000 bucks Nintendo will cram out a "Wii Ski Resort"
Storm Eagle [Wiizer Sweatshop R&D] @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:01AM
Nah, it'll be called Wiinter Resort.
The_Punisher @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:19AM
What'll the expansion be called? Wii Faill Resort
*badum cha*
*-1*
MystileArmor [Wiizer Sweatshop Bathwater and Sam Raimi Specialist] @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:24AM
It's ok Punisher, it's still early. Give it another shot.
Mr Khan @ Aug 3rd 2009 10:42AM
I think Resort will slow for a time, as word of mouth takes a while to work around, then it'll pick up again closer to the holiday season. Then it'll start sticking like Wii Fit.
phr3qu3ncy441 @ Aug 3rd 2009 12:03PM
for what wii sports resort does, it does well. very good for quick gaming sessions and for parties/gatherings.
Balloonfighter99 @ Aug 3rd 2009 1:16PM
I know bowling is nothing new, but I couldn't be happier that it was included again. M+ makes it real easy to put some spin on the ball. Last night ,played with some friends, had a blast.
trE @ Aug 3rd 2009 1:21PM
fun game i enjoy it for what it is. my 2.5 year old son loves it
Shadowbender (Wiizer Sweatshop Head of Abuse and Discipline) @ Aug 3rd 2009 1:33PM
In my mind, Wii Sports Resort isn't a casual game or a hardcore game--it's simply a great game. It's imaginative and fun, and that's the only thing that matters, to be honest.
Balloonfighter99 @ Aug 3rd 2009 1:39PM
Thats how I feel. I consider myself a pretty hardcore gamer(whatever that means anymore) and Wii Sports Resort is more of an experience than anything. I have a stupid smile on my face the whole time I play. Plus I like that anyone can play. I get a kick outta watching my mom play the sword duel game.
James Kochalka @ Aug 3rd 2009 2:14PM
Wii Sports Resort is an absolutely awesome game. There's no reason that "hardcore" gamers shouldn't love it. In fact, many do.
Dv8thwonder @ Aug 3rd 2009 4:03PM
Casual is king!
