and it has nothing to do with the fact that for a big star a voice over job in a video game is easy money. No really, they do it because they love video games.

Dushku is probably mad crazy for Tetris.

When you look at celebs who say they play video games and those that are actually interested enough to go to E3 on their own dime ... you've got more chance of seeing Robin Williams lining up for a COD demo than anyone else.

Regarding Robin Williams, anyone who names his daughter after Princess Zelda qualifies as a core gamer in my book.

I think it's because when someone say something like that just as they are doing a voice over role in a game it really comes off as pandering.

this is how most video game related interviews go with actors who are being paid to be in them ...

So, how would you describe your involvement?
"I think video games are awesome. They are a new level in storytelling. An extension of the film genre. The people who work on them are amazingly talented."

What's you favorite video game?
"Pong."

Shame on you gamers who are criticising Eliza Dushku for simply speaking her mind. This is a beautiful, smart, talented girl whose work is pure geek fodder, and she's nice enough to say "Hey, games aren't for losers, they're for everyone!" and you guys can't just take it at face value.

As far as writers go I think there’s very few that manage to become household names.... Tina Fey became a cultural icon during the election, Damon Lindelof happens to be the voice of Lost. So as far as writers go, Joss Whedon isn’t necessarily a household name but is, as far as writers go, very well known.

As far as Elisha Dushku goes I don’t think she’s all that big of an actress but I don’t think she’s obscure enough to make a crack about her being not famous.

As far as her comments go, I think it’s become well established that adults play video games.

Why are we making cracks about her being a "noted actress" when she's portrayed major characters on three of Joss Whedon's, arguably the most popular modern television writer, series?

no, he's not arguably the most popular writer. If he were, everything he made wouldnt get canceled, he's just the most popular writer for nerds

Do non-nerds even know the names of any tv writers though? I can't see there being a popular among non-nerds tv writer period.

Well, i'm sure it's pretty easy to identify the writers of plenty of shows, 30 Rock for example, it's been pretty heavily addressed that Tina Fey is also the writer.

Morgan and Wong, Chris Carter, Rob Thomas, Bryan Fuller, JJ Abrams, Tim Minear ... and that's just for the geek crowd.

David Simon, Tom Fontana, Steven Bochco, Stephen J Cannell, Donald P. Bellisario all created or wrote for more popular series than Whedon.

So Whedon can write a good show, but he's not more prolific than the usual crop of geek-aimed writers and nowhere near as successful as Bocho or any of the other prime time drama creators. Whedon has only made two shows that could even be considered ratings hits.

I wasn't saying his *series* were the most popular, just that personally as a writer he was, as most prime-time drama creators aren't actually personally well known.

But yeah. A few of those names still help to disprove my original claim.

it is surprising how well he is known considering how little he has actually done. If you look at his back catalog of major contributions, it's actually pretty small.
