Originally, LucasArts' Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings was planned to be released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well. After a couple of years of troubled development, the next-gen version was shelved, and a few months later the game arrived on Wii, DS, PSP, and PS2.
Unseen64, following a car chase, a fistfight with Nazis, and a trip through a booby-trapped cave, unearthed early footage and screens of the next-gen game. We've got one rough gameplay clip after the break; check the site for more early gameplay and test animations, and decide for yourself if LucasArts chose wisely or poorly.
I remember seeing a video of Indy fighting someone on a tram in San Fransisco or something like that.
Also, when Joystiq broke right now, I speak for all Wiizer Sweatshop employees when I say "You can't prove faulty technology is to be blamed on us, you probably just didn't use it according to the instructions".
Yep, it was supposed to be the first game to use what is now known as the Euphoria engine. Instead, they did force unleashed, then they laid everybody off and shut down the studio. Oh well.
interns are pretty much the same as workers. you're not getting paid either way. the only difference is that interns only get hit by my cane half as much.
I went to a panel at 2006 ComicCon where they were showing this off as well as the Force Unleashed materials tech demo. Too bad it never materialized.. or maybe good thing if it wasn't working out. :)
From the videos I saw of it back when it was still in development, it seemed to be on the same track as The Force Unleashed. That is to say, many small pieces of innovative technology adding up to an overall unimpressive experience.
I was just thinking how this game could have been great if made like Force Unleashed. Maybe bridge parts 1 & 2 and using the same engine technology. I would have bought it, not even being a big Indy fan.
The Wii is 'current-gen' in the sense that it came out at the same time as the 360 and PS3, generally. People sometimes don't think of it as in the same generation as the 360 and PS3, though, because the Wii's graphical capabilities are more in line with the previous (Xbox, PS2, Gamecube) generation.

I'm sorry I don't put the Wii in the same class as 360/PS3.... It's not... Next Gen it's a fad like pokemon... people bought thousands of them and don't even touch the things after the first few weeks.
I remember when this was announced. The dual announcement of both a new Star Wars (force unleashed) and a new Indy nearly made me cry with joy. But, alas, we are without it. Maybe it will be revived when LucasArts starts to make money again. I guess I'll just play the Fate of Atlantis again...
This was the reason why I bought a PS3!!! But it was cancelled (I think I was the first to say this at Lucasarts forum) and I had to bought the PS2 IJ SoK game and... you can't make a game worst than that ps2 game! So my question is: if they kept a total crappy game like IJ SoK PS2 and released it, why not release a game for the PS3/X360 a game near the ending production phase (they wouldn't probably spend much more money) to at least get the profit of the few profit that the game would do with the few sales it would have. Lucasarts choose unwisely!!
There's no skin off my nose, I'd rather they focused their time on reviving (remakes and new installments for all current-gen systems) their point n click (whatever they're called nowadays) adventures.
