I find $250 dollars to be a fair price point.

Honestly I use my Wii for the exact same reason I used my GC last gen, First Party Exclusives. It's hard to deny that when Nintendo comes out with a game for one of its big franchises, they hardly ever disappoint.

I can also see similarities between the GC and the Wii's third party support. They are few and far between but you can still find some good third party games on the Wii.(I have at least three third party games I loved this gen)

For these reasons I find the Wii to be the perfect console to own as a second console to a 360/PS3.

After owning all 3 for a good while now. PS3 would be a great 2nd console if you have a 360 and vice versa. Wii would be great for that SD tv you have in the bedroom. Actually nevermind, I have a DC/Xbox1 in my bedroom and they get used more than the Wii.

To each their own I suppose. I own all three consoles as well, and while I enjoy all three I still say the Wii makes a perfect second console.

It all depends on your tastes I suppose.

Their libraries are almost identical, but I guess that's true if you're a raging anti-Nintendo fanboy like yourself.

Since I'm most likely getting one for christmas, I'd like it to go down in price to make it easier on my family (even if everyone ends up pitching a little in for it). It'll probably get played a lot as I catch up the backlog but as for the future I don't see anything I want to play on it.

I guess as long as I think that all I have a Wii for is for a third console that only gets played when the occassional good game comes out, it probably won't bother me as much.

I can't really see NSMBWii selling 10 million copies by March of next year. I'm sure it'll get there eventually, but it will take longer than that. WiiFit Plus and WiiSports Resort breaking 10 million in that time-frame both sound plausible, though.

the DS NSMB has sold almost 20 million with twice the install base, so it's not unthinkable for the wii game to sell 10 million.

But in such a short time frame? probably not.

Are we already over the "black Wiis are bigger", or do we actually have enough decency on Joystiq to forgo such stupid puns?

In other news, I don't really need a new Wii, so a price drop isn't a concern. Plus, most of the people who don't own one at this point hate it or don't know what a store is.

Nintendo almost NEVER lowers prices on hardware until the bitter end of it's lifecycle. Before the Wii budges from 249, you can expect to see about 8 different colors and different game bundles on shelves

Really? The GameCube and the DS both moved down fairly quickly. Their "no price drops" mentality is more recent

Whatever the case, I like the sexier looking box and I don't even like the Wii. Almost makes me wanna go out and buy the thing....nah, not quite but that black box does make it look great.

If that's all it takes, I'll sell you a black plastic box with some LEDs in it for half the going rate of a Wii!

It's much more likely we'll see new colours and Wii bundles with games before a price drop.

I think it's more likely we'll see a Black Wii with Wii Sports Resort (bundled in) this Christmas than a price drop of any significance. I just hope Nintendo's smart and bundles a copy of Metroid Trilogy, more people playing that game will increase it's likeliness of more first person Metroid titles - GOOD TIMES! (Though I'm excited about Metroid Other M as well!!)

I am worried about the Wii. Sincerely I think Nintendo hasn't learnt from the N64 story.

They can loose momentum if they do not come up with something new for the Wii, or if they don't update it.

N64 lifetime sales: 32.9 million.

Wii sales to date: 51.6 million.

Wii is still selling about the same as its two competitors put together. I bet they wish they could've said that about the N64...

So no worries on the N64 front. (If sales drop below competitors, they do need to make a price cut of course, but it's still not in the N64 situation - whatever happens in future.)

Sam, the Wii is the clear winner (in terms of sales) of this generation. No doubt about it.
What I meant is that Nintendo won 8bit and 16bit generation, then they made bad choices and the N64 lost to the PSX. I am worried about that Nintendo is not making any effort, and it is just sitting around cashing in the current success. If they do not update their product in time, I am afraid that maybe Nintendo will loose the top spot again. Since the Wii is technically behind the others.
In my opinion Nintendo could leverage this lead, and release maybe in 2010 or 2011, something to consolidate further its lead.

I would consider a price drop. But that's just me. :)

"In fact, he expects all three of these to break ten million sold by March 2010, the end of Nintendo's fiscal year."

LOL... well maybe people will buy them because there's not much else worth buying on Wii these days. I know I won't be one of those 10 million.

I really enjoyed my Wii when I first bought it, but after a while I got smash brothered out and the novelty of wii sports wore off. I haven't touched my Wii in almost a year now, and while it's gathering dust, my PS3 has never worked harder with Fat Princess and a host of current games that I adore... plus that gorgeous Uncharted 2 on the horizon. I guess I'm just very disappointed with Nintendo lately... they seem to keep falling back on familiar crutches when I was hoping they would try and break some new ground with their system. ... perhaps a flawed hope, in retrospect.

@Everybody: Am I retarded or did Joystiq post a news story a week back that only Resistance 2 sold more than 1 million on the PS3? If not, direct me towards the correct post, smarty pants.

The reason the wii's in first place is because when it was released it was the lowest priced console and also it appeals to a lot of little kids.

Not a lot of people will go buy other consoles after they have one.
