dont be a dick roto. A lot of people suggest this would be great with something like a new Eternal Darkness. But think of it, think of all the thousands of different scenarios that would need to be spawned on the fly in response to the vitality sensor, correct me if im wrong but the wii doesnt even have a built in hard drive right? How could it or the disc the game is on have enough memory for that?

The same way it handles button presses and balance board weight shifting and motion sensing and pointing. The vitality sensor is just a new method of input. What makes you think that the Wii somehow can't handle it? It's designed for the Wii, you know. Don't be an idiot.

i guess im not so much thinking of wii or the sensor as the games themselves. I just cant imagine how something that would completely change the game constantly over and over again based on the sensor could fit on anything less than a blu-ray disc

It would basically just be a scalable difficulty level, except it uses your heartbeat to determine when to raise of lower the difficulty (by adding or strengthening enemies, as just one example), as opposed to analyzing your progress and how good you're doing.

Not a terribly complex thing to do, since games have been doing that for at LEAST the last 10 or so years.

All of a sudden an input device needs a Blu-ray disc? Please, man. You think the code for the Vitality Sensor would need more than 8.4 gigs of code? That's over 9 billion characters. You do realize that code probably takes up the least amount of room on a disc in any given game? What eats up the space in a game are pre-rendered cut scenes and all the music. I am sure the code needed for the Vitality Sensor to change the behaviour of the game would fit on a floppy diskette.

While I don't have confidence in the vitality sensor, I do hope hes right about DD.

I'm one of those people who vastly prefers physical media over digital. I hope games will follow the same path as music where people can buy either or.

You will have the ability to buy full retail releases for the for seeable future. However, DD is important for those smaller development studious who don't have funds or resources to create, market, manufacture etc a full retail experience. If given a chance I'll pick the physical media 9/10 so I can lend it out, trade it or sell it etc. I think the only retail game I bought on PSN was Warhawk.

Nintendo will be the only one developing decent things for it because just like the wii-mote they;re the only ones who know how to make anything worth while for it. 3rd parties gave up trying to make decent games for it in the first year leaving Nintendo supporting the thing alone with a bunch of lame minigames and shovel ware coming from everyone else.

The Vitality Sensor could be kind of cool, I'll give Nintendo the benefit of the doubt on it.

Also, really digging Miyamoto's opinions on digital distribution, I feel the exact same way.

How nice it must be to have a mind like Miyamoto's; full of magic and imagination. He could turn any piece of shit idea into a wonderfully fun game for all ages.

At what point will Nintendo stop coming up with ideas that involve more fucking peripherals?

The peripherals stop completely when somebody makes a virtual reality suit with force feedback.

I hope the peripheral fad will end soon, but I'm personally glad that dumb periphs and the dumb people who buy them are keeping video game industry alive during this economic slump.

Yes, Mr. Miyamoto, we would also like to 'have confidence' but, seeing as how the entire gaming population is too retarded to understand the potential of a heart monitor in a gaming situation, you'll need to provide some actual ideas of the Vitality Sensor in games. That are not also retarded.

As I said at E3, I reserve judgement until I see what they plan on doing with it. Hopefully something kickass, like a new Eternal Darkness as many have suggested.

Nintendo hasn't let me down yet. Expect Microsoft and Sony to roll out their version of the vitality sensor a few years down the road. Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery and all.

The Wii reads games at 6X. Most Wii games are single layer DVD with a BUNCH of filler data. That means load times shouldn't be too extreme.

A lot of people don't know that the Wii can read dual layer DVDs (SSBB is) so obviously there IS room for tons of data on a game disc, the developers just need to use it. You can't blame the hardware when the developers aren't pushing its limits.

Oh I'm sure they'll make interesting software for the vitality sensor.

My concearn has always been about Nintendo's decision making and making software I CARE about.

Some crappy puzzle game that uses your blood pressue doesn't take away from the piss poor online experiences, and crappy horrible state of their shops, specifically the DSiWare shop.

Also, Jesus Christ, is it so hard to give up North American's a God damn monthly release date list for their digital download games?

No. He said "I don't like digital distribution because I like having a hard copy of the media." He also said that he believes we'll continue to have what we have now, a combination of digital and physical media. You can buy songs on iTunes and games off of gaming networks or Steam, but you can also buy CDs and games at, say, Best Buy.

I'm not concerned about this.

Like, I REALLY don't care about the peripheral. I wish they wouldn't introduce it without the game, because it's those things that I'm interested in. "Here's the game, and oh it comes with this weird new peripheral."

Playing as Banner would be a snoozefest, thus making your ability to play the game dependent on your emotional state. A better solution would be having the Hulk's power increase as your heart rate increases.

The funny thing is I believe Iwata. I'll bet Nintendo knew they were going to take a lot of crap from gamers and professionals when they announced, so they probably have something huge in the works to show why they think the Vitality Sensor is a good idea.

I'm also wondering what Suda51 (the crazy guy behind No More Heroes) is going to do with it, since he's shown interest in it.

Sorry for the wall of text in advance.

Why should we trust him with Nintendo's awful record of backing up peripherals? R.OB. - 2 games, The Power Pad - 7 games (mostly Japan Only), The Power Glove - 1 game, The Super Scope - 9 games (including 3rd party games), Wii Speak - 2 games (the only Nintendo game being Animal crossing which came bundled with the stupid thing). There are plenty of other examples but come on, give us something to get excited about if you are going to try and pimp another piece of niche plastic. I don't see any way that this thing is going to crap out more than 1 or 2 games that are worth playing. More likely we are going to get another Wario minigame collection that uses the sensor to figure our how stressed you are directly, effecting the shakiness of the floating hand you're trying to shove up some guy's nose. Nintendo is already starting to find out that the people they have been catering to with this kind of crap for the last three years are the first ones to stop buying games when the economy tanks...look at their performance last quarter for a glimpse into the foreseeable future.

When the Balance Board came out, I was able to come up with quite a few ideas of how it could be used for success in some kind of game. For that matter, when the Wii Remote came out in the first place, it gave me about a dozen ideas for gaming possibilities, and the Wii hasn't let me down with those.

But the Vitality Sensor? I can't think of a single good reason to use it in a game, especially when you have to remove the Nunchuk. Nintendo should have just waited until they could present the Vitality Sensor with some context of what good it will actually do. I love the Wii, but this peripheral is, so far, a misstep.

Boy I hope this doesn't become a trend for game consoles. This is disgusting! Look, if you're gonna excercise, get a bowflex and leave the gaming world alone. If Sony ever becomes as casual a game console as the Wii, I'm gonna be really dissapointed. Gamers (no matter what console, fanboy or not) should rebel and protest this kinda crap. I mean, come on, never in the early days of the Super Nintendo and SEGA Genesis and even carrying into the SEGA Vs. Nintendo Vs. Sony would anyone have permitted such software to pervert and disrupt the console wars. I just don't think I can handle this crap anymore. Someone, please come and liberate us from the casual gaming. Suddenly Eliza Dushku and Megan Fox start gaming? BECAUSE THE WII COMES OUT! NO! The world is gaming now because everyone is. Eck!
