THE PLOT THICKENS!

I've been hearing rumors of the Apple Tablet for ages. The current speculation is September, when iPods get refreshed.

So next gen = Apple vs Nintendo for the casuals and MS vs Sony for the cool kids.

hah, cool kids. Like in the sense that a frat kid with a backwards baseball hat playing Halo and screaming racist insults over his headset is cool, right?

I'm going to stay cautious and not click strange links at work; but I doubt whatever that is will make me back down from the stance that "hardcore" gamers are generally a deplorable crowd.

I didn't even touch on the MS hive of evil. Sure Apple is a evil corporation too, but that doesn't mean you have to choose a side. But if you feel the need to, go right ahead. Would you rather go with the Stepford wife or a boot stamping on a human face forever?

@MLS - Have you been reading any of the news about Apple and the Google Voice app? Apple is worse than Microsoft.

Apple, Apple products, I-Phones, I-Touches, and Video Games do.not.mix

And its the masses of kids out there that keep saying the iphone is a "gaming console" because the thing can run some half-assed version of Crash Bandicoot that keeps this fad going.

If you're talking about Crash's Kart racing game, you clearly are an ignorant "hardcorz' gamer if you think that's what's selling, and is the best looking/playing game out there.

The phone/ipod has just as many good games on it's belt as any other handheld. Get a clue, or get enough money to buy one so you can stop complaining and bitching about it.

After all, fanboys are born from a lack of money for competitor's products.

Um...hasn't Apple announced before that Crash is the best selling game in the App Store??

"The phone/ipod has just as many good games on it's belt as any other handheld."

That's just a blatant lie. I have an iPhone and a DS. The DS has way more good games than the iPhone. The iPhone has plenty of games that last a couple minutes and then get repetitive and boring. That's if you can find them after sifting through all the crap.

The iphone does have as many great games as nintendo ds if you go by the amount of time its been out. games like rolando 2, real racing, tiger woods and many others are brilliant games that are much better than most ds games. the ds has been out for what 4-5 years, gaming on iphone/touch started 1 year ago.

That's a crock, johnny. The iPhone doesn't have nearly as many good games as the DS (or probably even the PSP for that matter), and I highly doubt that many of the games you find on it have the depth and polish that the better DS games have.

Exactly. Few iPhone games have the depth that Zelda, Mario or Pokemon have. Maybe Zenonia, but even that doesn't compare with Zelda.

oh boy, another vehicle for the crApp store to spew more shitty 'games'. they really need to step up the quality control if games are going to be a focus for this thing.

I'm guessing this thing will have roughly 4 hours of battery life. Pass.

If this tablet ever comes into existence, and Apple doesn't tie it to a cell carrier to subsidize the cost, it will be a dismal failure.

Even with a subsidy, I can't see it taking off anyway. What would you use it for, other than the same crap you already do with your iPhone? Touch is terrible for any serious typing. And a device of this profile could never output the sound or visual quality necessary for it to replace a theater system.

If I can draw on it with a stylus and it has a pressure sensitive screen, i'll buy it on day 1.

Haven't got much interest in this for games, though, unless Apple releases some kind of official controller.

You'll buy it on day 1, regardless of price?

You can already buy things like this: http://www.wacom.com/cintiq/cintiq-12wx.php

Why would you want to be tied down to the Mac platform when you can use something like this with anything?

Cintiqs are absurdly expensive. An Apple tablet, hypothetically, can also double as an eBook reader and be ideal for long plane and train rides.

I don't imagine it's something I'd carry around with me all the time by any means, but it would be something that gets a fair amount of use from me.

Plus the Cintiq is wired. I would much rather be able to sit at the kitchen table or on the couch and draw something than be chained to my computer desk, where I spend enough time already.

Well, it's obviously not the same product. But I'm sure Apple's tablet will cost more than the Cintiq, so we'll see if you're waiting in line for a launch day purchase.

Ever thought about just drawing on a sketch pad? Or that too low tech? :P

(I feel qualified to give people shit over this because, as an artist, I almost always have a drawing pad either on my person or at least in my car with me)

Haha- I have so many sketch pads laying around it's terrible. I like digital drawing, but I struggle with a Wacom tablet, even though I've been using one since at least 2001. I hold the stylus REALLY tight for some reason and I end up getting major hand cramps.

I've never been good with Wacom's myself... even though I am reasonably good at video games, the disconnect between a pen movement and the cursor movement on screen is hard for me to overcome.
