Just as Modern Warfare 2 is hitting PS3 and Xbox 360 this November 10, Wii will finally be getting something a little less modern in the form of a port of the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, according to Kotaku. The site doesn't divulge the source of its information, but claims the game is being brought to Nintendo's console by Treyarch, developer of Call of Duty: World at War. An official announcement is said to be coming tomorrow; we've contacted Activision for confirmation.
Update: Activision has confirmed that the Treyarch-ported "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" will launch on Wii on November 10th.

a PSP port would be so sick. I wonder what's preventing Activision from releasing on the PSP. Maybe it will be downloadable once the PSP Go releases.

Why was W@W a solid game? Because it was Modern Warfare, with dogs. Treyarch saw that they absolutely did the Call of Duty name horrible with CoD3, so they said, "Hey, let's just take IW's engine, graphics, and gameplay system from MW, and apply a skin mod and new WW2 maps".

Not quite I Al2x I, you fail. Activision, who owns the Call of Duty franchise, as well as owning both IW and Treyarch, basically gave Treyarch the engine and told them to make a WWII game using what made COD4 successful.

4 WAW map packs are better than 1 MW map pack IMO if you really like to play the games online.
treyarch also made other games in the past year(s) such as quantum of solace while infinity ward only makes 1 game with little to no online support anymore.... hacks... cough cough... no new maps...
i bet most WAW haters haven't even played the game or got tired of being eaten by the dogs...

Treyarch also has a much bigger team and does not develop engines. they use the tools that others make. Grey Matter should have stuck with what they were good at and make expansions for IW's games instead of becoming part of Treyarch and making Mods of IW's games

Infinity Ward has effectively made Treyarch its bitch. I think the Wii version will reflect this fact; bitch work is executed piss-poorly.

Let's break this down
-Port of a 2 year old game
-Lesser quality than original (that one's a given)
-Released on same day as MW2 for extra laughs
-Handled by Treyarch
I gotta ask wii owners (specifically wii only owners). Do you guys ever get tired of getting shafted?

Given how much more fun RE4 was on the Wii compared to Gamecube, I wouldn't automatically call it a lesser port. It's not a given, it's your opinion, and you really bug the hell out of me trying to always pitch your opinion as if it's a fact.

Well, there *are* "real gamers" that don't have a platform that can run CoD4, but do have a Wii... how is offering what is obviously a great game to some who can't play it otherwise "getting shafted?"

I would certainly hope the Wii can handle a gamecube port. Unfortunately, this isn't a Gamecube game.

tmac....I really can't understand your spite for Nintendo. Sure, I can understand why you personally don't like them, but the thing is...we're not all tmacs. We can all have our own likes and dislikes and we're free to express them. But don't you think it gets a bit...ya know...old repeating the same things you say over and over and over in anything that mentions Nintendo? What do you hope in achieving with this?
Back to post...CoD4 on Wii? Hmm...have it on my Mac, but wouldn't mind having it in my Wii for the fact of controls (and if they do online right).

I don't have any spite for nintendo. I just don't understand why people get excited for vastly inferior ports. If you want to play our games that badly why not just buy a $200 360? That way you won't have to deal with a bad port.

But there's no guarantee it will be a bad port. Obviously, graphics wise it will be inferior to 360/PS3. But that wouldn't really dampen my spirits on playing it on Wii. It hasn't stopped me from playing CoD4 on my Mac Book, where I have the graphic settings placed low so that any lag impact is minimal. The controls and online play are what will really sell it to me.
And I have played CoD4 on 360, but really found it to my dislike (probably more due to being used to PC/Mac controls).
But like I said, I'll wait till I give it a shot. Obviously, I wouldn't buy something that isn't executed right.

Who exactly is so excited about this game that it annoys you so much?
Given that the game isn't released, you do not know that it is "vastly inferior." Will the graphics be as good? Obviously not. But how do you know the gamrplay itself will be so inferior? You don't. When I played it 2 years ago, it was the design of the levels and pacing that made the single player great. There's no reason why those things won't port. You whine and complain how the Wii has no games of depth, yet, when someone tries to bring deep games to the Wii, you whine and complain about how you don't understand Wii owners.
The 360 controls are vastly inferior to the mouse and keyboard. Why do you get so excited for vastly inferior ports of PC games? And why do you pay extra to play these inferior ports online?

Considering that I have a list of games that I'm looking forward to and don't care for the CoD series in general, I don't even feel shafted.
On top of that, I haven't even bothered with ports. Though there are a few that I'll pick up, such as, Metroid Prime Trilogy and Phantom Brave, I wasn't into the Metroid series until just recently and I haven't played PB either.
Its actually funny. The list of games that I'm looking forward to is completely made up of exclusives and only 6 out of the 20 are first party.
I do need to update said list though as its only as recent as E3 and doesn't include WiiWare titles.
I do have to ask the same question of everyone who wants to play games that are on the Wii though. Why not drop the 250 and pick up a Wii and the games you want instead of bitching about them not being on your system?

As a Wii-only owner, I can say i'm not really tired of getting shafted because I really don't care about this game, nor are any of my friends that have Wiis that I play against. I have plenty else to play. I don't need to play a new Call of Duty game every year to be satisfied with my gaming. Not like there won't be 10000 more shooters before the end of the year anyways.

No... the only fact is that the graphics are going to be lesser. I'm not stupid, thanks. The game still has the potential to be different enough that some could prefer the changes in controls and what not over the graphics. Honestly, if Capcom released a Wii port of RE5, I would not be able to choose which I thought was better. The graphics in RE5 are fantastic and would certainly be downgraded being ported to the Wii, but the controls would make the game so much more fun to shoot stuff that it might be worth the trade off. It wouldn't be factually "lesser" because of a downgrade in graphics quality unless the game was exactly the same otherwise. In the case of an RE5 Wii port, based on the different versions of RE4 that I've played, I can say with confidence that the gameplay in the RE5 Wii port would be more fun than the better looking HD versions.
I'm not stupid, and declaring whether this port that isn't even out yet is factually lesser is ignorant. Yes, it has a good chance of being received as a lesser game by the majority of gamers and reviewers, but it's definitely not a fact. If he had said it's "probably going to be a lesser version," I wouldn't have said anything.

I wonder how infinity ward feels about treyarch trying to make COD4 Modern Warfare
Reply

Well, Infinity Ward doesn't care about wii development (none of the old pc developers do really), and they're too busy working on MW2 which will replace 1 as the most played game on the two consoles. The only scenario I see them getting angry is if Treyarch (Inevitably) screws the port up and pisses off wii owners from future games.....but then again like I said IW doesn't care about wii development.

What I meant is that infinity ward has work really hard to earn the respect that they have right now, and then treyarch is gonna come and make Modern Warfare games and possibly fucked them up... well I guess is activision greedy asses trying to milk more franchises

Calling someone creatively bankrupt becaues they don't want to work on your favorite system is pretty dumb. It's not their fault nintendo put a horribly underpowered system out there, and companies like IW, Bioware, and Bethesda have integrity so they're not going to work on something they don't want to for a quick buck.

It's actually a really good game, and I loved it. I'm on my third playthrough because I haven't found all the hidden elements yet.
