Blur pre-order bonuses make decision about where to buy less clear

Activision has announced the pre-order bonuses for Blur, which include different extras for three different retailers. Don't worry too much about being forced to choose -- it's just digital stuff, and not, like, a hat or anything.

Pre-ordering Bizarre Creations' latest racer from GameStop (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) will net you an "Exclusive Multiplayer Advantage Booster Kit" which unlocks a Ford Bronco and an exclusive "Last Man Standing" multiplayer survival mode, as well as a "Double Fans" bonus for the first ten multiplayer races, which increases your ability to earn money.

Those who pre-order from Game Crazy will receive double cash for the first three single-player races. And purchasing the game on the release date from Best Buy gets a code to unlock a Dodge Hennessey Viper.

Activision still has yet to officially reveal when that release date will be, though all three retailers agree on November 3.

Agreed. I hate not being able to have everything in a game, so exclusives like this actually HURT the chances of me buying the game ANYWHERE. I'd rather have nothing than be unable to have everything.

Not gonna be getting this game.

If a developer has to go to these lengths & add so much store specific content, then it doesn't give the impression the game is gonna be v.good.

I'm pretty sure this game is gonna suck.

So only those who've pre-ordered the game from GameStop can play the "Last Man Standing" mode? But it's a multiplayer mode. Does that mean you'll exclusively be playing it with other people who have pre-ordered the game from GameStop? What if you want to play that mode with your friends, who bought the game elsewhere, or didn't pre-order it?

this sounds messy. I'll just avoid it now, because I'm confused.

I think we all know it'll be released as purchaseable DLC a few months later like everything else.

This is why I hate exclusives.

Worst pre-order bonuses I have ever seen in my 21 years of living. I'd also like to point out that this game oozes chav. Avoid like the plague.

Other then the "Last Man Standing" mode, the other pre-order bonuses don't really change the gameplay much. The "Double Fans" and Double Cash bonus doesn't retract from the overall game, and will be used up on the first day of gameplay. Also what if you want the Dodge Viper but order from GameStop... that doesn't seem fair. Their should offer an option of the two cars for both GameStop and Best Buy orders.

This is the most exciting game of the year now that F1's next generation debut has been pushed back to 2010.

What about, GT5, Forza 3, NFS: Shift, Split Second?

Well for one thing Split Second isn't out till next year and if PURE is anything to go by there won't be that much fun to be had. It's not a proper driving game either.

Polyphony Digital have yet to release a driving game which doesn't feel like a chore to play.

Turn 10 got close to "fun" last time, but I'm starting to think that the whole race to win money to buy a car to race to win money to buy a car to race... is perhaps not the best way to approach progression in a driving game.

Shift is interesting, but the developer lacks a proven record in console development and it is branded as NFS so there's a high chance it will be a turd.

Aside from Codemasters, Bizarre are my favourite developer - the entire PGR series was incredible, as was the earlier work some of their staff did on F1. I'm so sad that it's not PGR5 we're getting, but I'm pretty confident that this is going to be totally incredible to play online.

Need for Speed use to be good.....last gen.....I truly wish I could have that NFS underground game for current gen

What the shit? A Ford GT vs a 1-Series BMW? Lawl. That's horrifying that it got put onto a game cover.

Yea that makes no sense. It even looks awkward from a design perspective as the BMW is about 2 feet taller than the Ford GT. The Ford even looks faster on the cover, not moving lol.

That's why the BMW needs both the Nitro and Shock power-ups.

I love preorder bonuses when they are physical items. I hate them when they just make you feel like you have a gimped game. What next?.....you wont be able to use the look back button unless you reserve at gamestop?

I am excited about Blur but all game devs need to realize (even if pressured from game stores) do not give out preorder bonuses that make the rest of us feel like second best for buying your game at a different place....

Don't worry, most Gamestop "exclusives" are codes that are widely available on the internet the next day anyway.

I bet they will sell the pre order vehicles at a later date. See panic room pre order bonus for wolverine and the pre order bonuses for Little big planet. Naruto storm packs (The Narutos pre orders are now a free download, and the others are available for purchase)

Bizzare-Creations has some of the ugliest box art. Their games are fun. I liked the PGR series. I'm sold on Forza 3 this season as my racer though.
