First batch of Xbox 'Games on Demand' titles revealed [update]

Can't be bothered to drag yourself to the nearest brick-and-mortar to pick up your Xbox 360 games? Don't worry, you won't be penalized for your sloth -- this coming Tuesday, the first batch of 21 titles will be added to the Games on Demand service, a new feature in the anticipated dashboard update. There are no costs attached to these titles yet, but Microsoft says they'll be similar in price to their tangible counterparts.

We've got the full list of games posted after the break -- highlights include Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and ... Viva Piñata. What? We love ambulatory piñatas! Deal with it.

Update: Turns out the initial list we got our hands on was for the European territories. We thought it was weird Bioshock wasn't on there! We've got the full list of 24 (!) games coming to the States posted after the jump.

Viva Pinata 2 is technically on the store now for the preview people, and it's listed as $30 but when you try to download it says it can't find it. It's also listed as free if you switch over to pay with MS points.

If prices stay the same as E3, then Mass Effect will be $20 (along with lego star wars) and Assassin's Creed will be $30. Guess I'll pick up those two.

Yeah well I'll pass on this since I can wait for Gamestop to have their B2G1 sales and at a cheaper price than whats listed here.

Too bad 360 owners can't wrap their heads around Viva Pinata's non FPS ways.

Only 360 owners play FPS which is why Sony is focusing heavily on high-profile FPS games like Killzone and Resistance while Microsoft only has one FPS, Halo.

So your basically saying that Sony created 2 FPS games to compete directly with Halo 3 but still couldn't match, nor come close, to the quality and awesome of that one game.

@nutman: Trolling has nothing to do with age. Sure, it's indicative of a young age, but the fact that one is actually older than they act doesn't absolve them from their trolling. It just makes it all the more embarrassing for that person.

what, no bioshock??!! that was the one game i was going to buy here and finish playing through. oh well, i guess i will rent it and just save myself 20 bucks or so.

you are so much better off buying this on craigslist, ebay, or a friend. I hate the idea of even buying DLC because I can't sell it if I wanted to. If you can get physical media, it is much better if you do that instead in case you A) hate the game or B) beat it quickly and are not going to be playing it again.

I.E. just bought COD 2 & 3 for $10 total. Will be done playing it in 1 week. Will sell after i beat it for $10. No loss

Microsoft should really be applauded for this. It's a great idea, with big a varied launch. Impressive.

it's a great idea if it has varied pricing. When you can buy new hard copies for less than $20 the idea starts falling apart.

The prices are still high, and being a huge fan of CAG (same name on there), there's no way i'm buying anything, but i really like the idea, and they executed it well. It definitely has potential.

Games like "Peferct Dark Zero" and "Prey"are dedicated bargain bin filler these days and are almost give-aways in the used sections. MS should do publishers a favor and price the Games on Demand accordingly. (More on demand sales = less used sales).

I don't understand why MS isn't using this as an opportunity to undercut Gamestops used sale prices.

Yup, people always forget that Gamestop is also a large retailer of new games for the publishers. I doubt they want to damage that retail base.

What's game stop gonna do? Not sell 360 stuff? That would hurt them way more than it would Microsoft.

They could give pre-order bonuses to other stores?

They could recommend the PS3/Wii version to customers over 360?

All games I already have, or have already played the crap out of...Oh well.
