First batch of Xbox 'Games on Demand' titles revealed [update]
Can't be bothered to drag yourself to the nearest brick-and-mortar to pick up your Xbox 360 games? Don't worry, you won't be penalized for your sloth -- this coming Tuesday, the first batch of 21 titles will be added to the Games on Demand service, a new feature in the anticipated dashboard update. There are no costs attached to these titles yet, but Microsoft says they'll be similar in price to their tangible counterparts.
We've got the full list of games posted after the break -- highlights include Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and ... Viva Piñata. What? We love ambulatory piñatas! Deal with it.
Update: Turns out the initial list we got our hands on was for the European territories. We thought it was weird Bioshock wasn't on there! We've got the full list of 24 (!) games coming to the States posted after the jump.

Viva Pinata 2 is technically on the store now for the preview people, and it's listed as $30 but when you try to download it says it can't find it. It's also listed as free if you switch over to pay with MS points.
If prices stay the same as E3, then Mass Effect will be $20 (along with lego star wars) and Assassin's Creed will be $30. Guess I'll pick up those two.
roger @ Aug 5th 2009 12:12PM
Yeah well I'll pass on this since I can wait for Gamestop to have their B2G1 sales and at a cheaper price than whats listed here.
Cody @ Aug 5th 2009 12:15PM
Too bad 360 owners can't wrap their heads around Viva Pinata's non FPS ways.
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 5th 2009 12:18PM
The fact that it's an incredibly boring game doesn't mean anything though right?
WINterfang @ Aug 5th 2009 12:19PM
I'm 100% sure the majority of Viva Pi~ata players are 360 owners.
nutman @ Aug 5th 2009 12:25PM
Only 360 owners play FPS which is why Sony is focusing heavily on high-profile FPS games like Killzone and Resistance while Microsoft only has one FPS, Halo.
Cody isn't a fanboy guys. He's at least 20. He's just a loser who will reply to this post with an uber witty comment about x flop 3 shittys.
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Aug 5th 2009 12:25PM
It came out for the PC, too...
The_Punisher @ Aug 5th 2009 12:27PM
Wow, i didn't know people willingly got ripped off.
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 5th 2009 12:28PM
"Cody isn't a fanboy guys"
He's one of the biggest (and irrational) nintendo fanboys here. He hates the 360 for whatever reason. Going from his myspace profile he has listed, he's 25 and still acts like a wigger, while at the same time trollin joystiq all the time.
Clearly a real standup guy!
Moptimus Slime (Leader of Princess Griffins Royal Guard, Co-founder of Wiizers Sweatshop, Long Name Aficionado) @ Aug 5th 2009 12:32PM
so age is directly related to fanboyism?
riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight
so I guess height is directly related to basketball skill, right?
Vcize @ Aug 5th 2009 12:33PM
There is no way in hell that Cody is 25. Maybe half that age at most.
Captain Planet @ Aug 5th 2009 12:50PM
@ nutman
So your basically saying that Sony created 2 FPS games to compete directly with Halo 3 but still couldn't match, nor come close, to the quality and awesome of that one game.
Saria the Cat @ Aug 5th 2009 12:52PM
@nutman: Trolling has nothing to do with age. Sure, it's indicative of a young age, but the fact that one is actually older than they act doesn't absolve them from their trolling. It just makes it all the more embarrassing for that person.
Uleaz @ Aug 5th 2009 12:54PM
He's 26. Check his myspace link on his profile.
baby sea tuna @ Aug 5th 2009 1:01PM
Then he should be ashamed as a motherfucker that 90% of the shit that he says is coming out of the keyboard of a grown-ass man.
deaftly @ Aug 5th 2009 1:08PM
definitely wanksta, definitely
Captain Planet @ Aug 5th 2009 1:15PM
Man, I don't know what makes Cody look more like a douche, the 3XL shirts or that douchie thin-line jaw beard thing he has going on.
Duke @ Aug 5th 2009 1:35PM
Another day of making friends eh Cody? C'mon man, you open yourself up to this kinda slamming.
Mr Khan @ Aug 5th 2009 1:53PM
Not like we all haven't said things here we should be ashamed of (myself included), though Cody makes it more irritating than most.
Gun Barrier @ Aug 5th 2009 2:45PM
I think he means that since hes 25 he shouldnt be called a fanboy, but a fanman. Sounds lame, bad idea. Fanboy he is.
Cody @ Aug 5th 2009 2:52PM
ROFL wow... I'm really bent out of shape after all these comments guys :( And here I thought I was making friends!!!
Anyways, ON topic, tmac you of all people should know my hate for 360: the RROD and E74 and (fill in the blank hardware issue) of a crap built system.
The fun part is poking fun at the *dead on* accurate stereotypes of your typical 360 fanboy.
And LOL awwwwww they called me a wigger :( :( :( and made fun of my facial hair that they can't even grow.
Really guys? What'd you do, take notes from the bullies that jump your asses at school? Summer break is almost up kiddies! Where ya gonna hide??? LOL clowns
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 5th 2009 3:00PM
man, this tool makes Sprinkles look civilized.
protofunc @ Aug 5th 2009 3:22PM
Cody, you're the load your mother should've swallowed.
Cody @ Aug 5th 2009 3:22PM
So, anyone looking forward to Games On Demand?
Cody @ Aug 5th 2009 3:31PM
@ protofunc
LOL nice!
Sly [Wiizer Sweatshop Raccoon] @ Aug 5th 2009 4:11PM
proto, that comment made my day. thank you.
Cody @ Aug 5th 2009 4:16PM
I will say this much about tmac and myself, we sure do draw a crowd to a comment thread.
Paul @ Aug 5th 2009 12:05PM
what, no bioshock??!! that was the one game i was going to buy here and finish playing through. oh well, i guess i will rent it and just save myself 20 bucks or so.
Brian Arnold @ Aug 5th 2009 12:48PM
It's not in the list in text but it's in the video. Here's hoping it goes live.
Latin_Trident @ Aug 5th 2009 1:10PM
you are so much better off buying this on craigslist, ebay, or a friend. I hate the idea of even buying DLC because I can't sell it if I wanted to. If you can get physical media, it is much better if you do that instead in case you A) hate the game or B) beat it quickly and are not going to be playing it again.
I.E. just bought COD 2 & 3 for $10 total. Will be done playing it in 1 week. Will sell after i beat it for $10. No loss
Moptimus Slime (Leader of Princess Griffins Royal Guard, Co-founder of Wiizers Sweatshop, Long Name Aficionado) @ Aug 5th 2009 12:06PM
"Perfect Dark Zero"
glad to see Microsoft making a hard push on quality titles for this service
Nerdy Desi @ Aug 5th 2009 12:23PM
Sonic the Hedgehog, man I thought that was going to be a great game based on the trailers alone and I was completely turned off just by playing a kiosk demo of the game. : (
The_Punisher @ Aug 5th 2009 12:27PM
Meet The Robinsons
;)
WINterfang @ Aug 5th 2009 12:37PM
What Sonic the hedgehog? the 2006 version?...ew.
Xizer @ Aug 5th 2009 12:57PM
Nice to see Joystiq users not understanding sarcasm and downvoting people for using it.
WINterfang @ Aug 5th 2009 1:09PM
^I think he was downvoted because of the sarcasm.
trevor @ Aug 5th 2009 1:41PM
microsoft. do me a favor and replace game number five with sonic unleashed or something. bad times for me, man... bad times...
WINterfang @ Aug 5th 2009 3:08PM
Yeah and Sonic Unleashed is 20 bucks for retail anyway, not need for SEGA to not only rip-off but give a fairly bad game to unsuspecting users.
The_Punisher @ Aug 5th 2009 12:07PM
Microsoft should really be applauded for this. It's a great idea, with big a varied launch. Impressive.
arkweld @ Aug 5th 2009 12:29PM
it's a great idea if it has varied pricing. When you can buy new hard copies for less than $20 the idea starts falling apart.
The_Punisher @ Aug 5th 2009 12:31PM
The prices are still high, and being a huge fan of CAG (same name on there), there's no way i'm buying anything, but i really like the idea, and they executed it well. It definitely has potential.
WINterfang @ Aug 5th 2009 12:39PM
Yeah this and natal are really great ideas for the future, sure both may fail terrible but I takes ballsy moves to push the industry forwards.
bioadam @ Aug 5th 2009 12:41PM
Games like "Peferct Dark Zero" and "Prey"are dedicated bargain bin filler these days and are almost give-aways in the used sections. MS should do publishers a favor and price the Games on Demand accordingly. (More on demand sales = less used sales).
Neuromancer @ Aug 5th 2009 12:43PM
I don't understand why MS isn't using this as an opportunity to undercut Gamestops used sale prices.
baby sea tuna @ Aug 5th 2009 12:59PM
Because they don't want to burn any bridges with the industry's leading retailer, maybe?
Duke @ Aug 5th 2009 1:45PM
Yup, people always forget that Gamestop is also a large retailer of new games for the publishers. I doubt they want to damage that retail base.
Ostentaneous @ Aug 5th 2009 2:21PM
What's game stop gonna do? Not sell 360 stuff? That would hurt them way more than it would Microsoft.
The_Punisher @ Aug 5th 2009 2:34PM
They could give pre-order bonuses to other stores?
They could recommend the PS3/Wii version to customers over 360?
Storm Eagle [Wiizer Sweatshop R&D] @ Aug 5th 2009 12:10PM
All games I already have, or have already played the crap out of...Oh well.
Shadowbender (Wiizer Sweatshop Head of Abuse and Discipline) @ Aug 5th 2009 4:53PM
Hehe, same here. Although I still need Oblivion.
