During this past May, a group of Philadelphians caught our attention when they led a protest march against the local "Army Experience Center," a location in the Franklin Mills Mall which uses video games (such as America's Army) to attract potential recruits. The march went off without a hitch -- tons of folks carried signs and slogans into the mall, caused a thought-provoking stir outside of the A.E.C., and seven people got arrested. Oh, wait. We guess that qualifies as a "hitch."
It seems the group is rallying for round two against the recruitment center -- they've opened a website to garner support for another protest march, which is set to commence September 12. If you're interested, the site has a lengthy list of instructions for what you should do to get ready for the march. Sticking flowers in your hair, however, is not one of the recommended steps.

That's it morons. Protest the people who protect your country. They should be arrested for treason!

In a side-note, the comments to the post about them marching the first time are absolute WIN.

last i checked, we are losing more freedoms to our own government then we are to people hiding in rocks in a different country. Don't believe me? Wait till the internet czar is established.
I think fathers over the age of 40 should sign up first. The young people have a lot more to lose than those who have already lived a life.

I guess that depends on who you are Trident. Me? I feel as free as can be. I do what I want, when I want, however I want to the extent that my principles will allow me. I'm not going to go dance naked in the streets because I don't feel that's appropriate. But after just coming back from the "Honeymoon from Hell" in the Dominican Republic, I've never loved (or missed) this country so much.

Trident, that comment was the most pussy-filled comment I have ever read.
If you aren't willing to fight for your country, you can always leave.
Move to a weak country and then you'll see the advantages.
America... Fuck yeah.

Public redress is a protected First Amendment right. I will admit that protesting an army recruiting post does seem a little strange, especially when we have an all volunteer army, it is their right to do so.

These guys need to man up, grow some balls and hold their protest one day earlier. Maybe they can end the protest by thanking the families whose sons and daughters have voluntarily served and died in our nation's defense.

You guys really need to see what is going on. So many soldiers are dying over seas for no reason. I would prefer that all of those soldiers be back in their home towns and serving local communities and work in the local and private sector than be the arms of the government.

Frankly the army needs all the help it can get recruiting people. I say let 'em use video games if that's what works.

Not you neuro... just anyone who signs up after playing a video game. I'm all for the military but your decision isnt gonna be made on if you liked playing AA. I get pissed everytime someone got the 18C so I'd TK them. which is probably what I'd do in the actual military.

I'm sure they don't tell the guys walking in there that everything they experience in the game is an exact reflection of what it'll be like "out there". Sure, games like America's Army simulate tactical strategies for infultrating hostile towns and things like that, but I'm sure the Army isn't as irresponsible as to say "Uh, yeah kid. There's an infinite ammo code. And, if you get ten kills in a row, you can call in an air-strike."

Honestly if that's what people like in a war then let them sign up but tell them that there are no respawns in the iraq server.

It's better to point these kids with emotional problems in the direction of the enemy, than to have them shooting up our schools.

I don't see how video games that somewhat create an interest in the military are different from movies that did that.
I remember watching Airwolf and deciding at that point I wanted to fly a helicopter in the army. I don't think this is any different.

If all the helicopter's in the army were as badass as the Airwolf helicopter, I'd want to do it too. Especially if Ernest Borgnine was my wingman.

On the one hand, I don't like the fact that they are using the medium as a source of propaganda but on the other hand how is this different from the various ads on TV movies and visits to high schools.
Just let them do whatever they want, and if this is a way to get people to join the army who actually want to, then by all means, do so.

Some people just want a challenge.
Some people aren't so selfish, longhorn.

No, it just makes you more of a prick Longhorn. Because you've actually met and talked with people in the armed forces and are now throwing up your hands like "Whatever. Big Deal. You guys are dumb. Thanks for nothing."
Your comments could've been excused for lack of personal connection, but now you're literally spitting in their faces. I feel your sister would be ashamed.

I'd say a lot of people join in order to protect others' freedoms, such as that of their wives and children. Many a serviceman would say that they want their children to grow up with the same freedoms they did, but I guess not everyone can be so selfless or caring.
You know what, while we're at, fuck universal health care too. I'm healthy; I don't see what the big fuss is all about. Who cares what happens to anybody else? That's what you sound like, Longhorn.

Yeah, if we pulled out, it would give the other guys lots of time to plan a counterstrike on American soil. We're not just chilling over there, shooting innocent Iraqis for fun.
I can respect your resentment of the army, though. You don't have to be so nasty with your presentation, though.
