Sega clarifies first-week sales numbers for The Conduit

Sega's 150k figure, the publisher told us, was based on copies of the game shipped to retailers during that first week. Although a rep explained that this figure was "global," the only part of the globe the game was available in before July 10 (the UK launch) was North America. Those 72,000 units reported by NPD, then? Those were how many of the 150,000 copies shipped were sold-through to consumers (a.k.a. actually sold), according to Sega.
While this certainly makes the game's first week less impressive, we'll need to see how The Conduit did for all of July before delivering a fair verdict. We'll have those numbers as soon as the next NPD report hits.

Too bad I sold my Wii hours before The Conduit was announced. :'-(
ChromeAlchemist @ Aug 5th 2009 7:36PM
That was back in 07. I can smell the fail on this post.
The Dark Wang(Sweatshop Dick) @ Aug 5th 2009 7:39PM
It was cool to say 'fail' on blogs 5 years ago, but now it's just stupid.
Foetoid @ Aug 5th 2009 7:42PM
Wow, you're such an epic fail that you don't even realize it's still normal to say 'fail'. Go hang yourself.
John @ Aug 5th 2009 7:44PM
As far as the conduit is concerned you didn't miss much. The single player was okay but the multiplayer is pure garbage and possibly more laggy than smash brothers with lots of jaggy's to keep your eyes disturbed. They should have just taken their time with the whole project.
The Dark Wang(Sweatshop Dick) @ Aug 5th 2009 7:56PM
BTW it was announced in 2008.
Sly [Wiizer Sweatshop Raccoon] @ Aug 5th 2009 8:00PM
you of all people are telling someone to go kill themselves? HAHAHAHA
MechaGamerX @ Aug 5th 2009 8:09PM
you still fail.
Mr Khan @ Aug 5th 2009 10:16PM
It was cool to brag about selling your Wii a year ago (though still douchey even then)
Santos L. Halper @ Aug 5th 2009 10:18PM
I hate what the internet has done with the word 'fail'.

And then if it becomes a hit, Acidvision (that's what I call it now) will buy that franchise, and if unable to be bought, it will make its own copy of it.
ChromeAlchemist @ Aug 5th 2009 7:37PM
AAAAAAND HEEEERE COMMEEESS THE SHITSTOOOOOOORRRRMMMM!
ChromeAlchemist @ Aug 5th 2009 7:38PM
So wait...what?
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 5th 2009 7:54PM
There's only a shitstorm when everyone doesn't already agree that the Conduit is pure trash.
ChromeAlchemist @ Aug 5th 2009 8:13PM
I loved the game. Still do. I know a good deal of people who think otherwise.
Troll moar.
Moptimus Slime (Leader of Princess Griffins Royal Guard, Co-founder of Wiizers Sweatshop, Long Name Aficionado) @ Aug 5th 2009 8:17PM
well that was obviously because you are a dirty pariah (AKA Casual gamer) who is a disgrace to the god-like hardcore master race
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 5th 2009 8:20PM
Need to get you guys on a real FPS so you know just how bad the Conduit really is then.
Sly [Wiizer Sweatshop Raccoon] @ Aug 5th 2009 8:28PM
honestly, the conduit looks bad to me from the gameplay videos. it seems like what we had in the pre-COD4 days. the wii needs an FPS that does it justice. a game like COD4 with good motion controls and downgraded graphics would be perfect for the wii.
ChromeAlchemist @ Aug 5th 2009 8:42PM
Meh, I've played more than enough FPSs in my time. I'm actually an FPS freak, probably why I was so into The Conduit. Hell I'm willing to buy Modern Warfare again simply because of Wii Remote controls (and if it's a solid port).
Nook @ Aug 5th 2009 7:40PM
I like the conduit, it's a fun game. looking forward to trilogy and mw, great year all of the sudden for fps fans with a wii.
ChromeAlchemist @ Aug 5th 2009 7:43PM
I loved every minute of that game. Still do. And now Modern Warfare is coming out, and if it's good then I'm going to have to buy it again.
Foetoid @ Aug 5th 2009 7:44PM
I'm still on the fence about the game honestly. Is it any good? I love me some FPS Wii action, Prime 3 is a fav, but i've heard very mixed reviews.
Nook @ Aug 5th 2009 8:12PM
I've played Red Steel, CoD3 and have MoH:V, MoH:H2, Prime 3, W@W and Conduit. Conduit is the best controlling game out of that bunch.
Played through twice so far, haven't been online much though. I never get tired of turning something after me into nothing. The ASE really calls out to the scanner in the Prime games.
They could take this IP into some crazy directions, and in the process change the art when you are on an alien planet somewhere. Imaginaaaaation.
Sly [Wiizer Sweatshop Raccoon] @ Aug 5th 2009 8:29PM
isn't COD4 only a rumor?
Mr Khan @ Aug 5th 2009 10:17PM
No, it was confirmed.
Sly [Wiizer Sweatshop Raccoon] @ Aug 5th 2009 10:38PM
wow, i have to pay attention more. where was cody? shouldn't he have been gloating about this?
Sly [Wiizer Sweatshop Raccoon] @ Aug 5th 2009 11:13PM
now that i went back to that article and saw that it was confirmed, i can't help wondering if tmac was somewhat right. if i was a wii-only owner, i would feel pretty shafted getting MW1 on the day the other consoles get MW2.

WINterfang @ Aug 5th 2009 7:45PM
SEGA knew this shit wouldn't sell and neither would Mad World but they love risk and pleasing that almost non-existent hardcore wii crowd, sure they are pretty vocal but they seem to forgot to buy the games.
Moptimus Slime (Leader of Princess Griffins Royal Guard, Co-founder of Wiizers Sweatshop, Long Name Aficionado) @ Aug 5th 2009 7:46PM
Im sure when they announced Mario and Sonic 2 they knew full well they'd never see a return on their investment but they did it anyways. THAT TAKES BRASS BALLS
Avoli @ Aug 5th 2009 8:09PM
Couldn't agree more WINterfang......
So we always have people on Joystiq in comments saying how there are too many casual games, family games, etc etc. Then we hear those same people crying that there isn't any 'hardcore' games.
Some roll along and get little support.
And then once again, you get a bunch of comments of people hating the game, bashing the system more, Sega hate and so forth.
Make up your fucking minds people.
Myself, I bought them. I supported what was a bold move into a system that has a smaller production cost and a base of a heavy seesaw of people:
Those that actually play and those that just bitch.
P34NK @ Aug 6th 2009 11:07AM
@Moptimus Prime: That takes BRASS BALLS? Are you sure? Sega wont release Yakuza 3 stateside because they said Yakuza 2 sells poorly...I say they have microscopic balls...
Random G (Wiizer Sweatshop Chief Bitchslapper) @ Aug 5th 2009 7:49PM
Even if it had sold 150,000 units, I'd still consider The Conduit a flop, considering the expectations.
Victus @ Aug 8th 2009 5:06PM
The Conduit was a large, smelly, watery turd that reminds me of the run of bad FPS's that were released after Halo CE made it big on the OG Xbox. There were times when playing it (using component cables) that reminded me of Rainbow 6 on the Dreamcast (graphically). THe overly linear nature (I know, all FPS's are linear), bland repetitive enemy design and hilariously bad story makes for an overhyped, boring and mediocre game. Too bad that = quality in the Wii's paltry non 1st party lineup.
I hate to admit wasting $50 on this game. Shadowrun on the 360 had more depth than this game.
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Aug 5th 2009 8:03PM
A bland, generic shooter sold poorly? STOP THE PRESSES!
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Aug 5th 2009 8:04PM
On the plus side, The Conduit can join Turok, Timeshift, and Haze. I hear they're very welcoming to new members.
WINterfang @ Aug 6th 2009 12:46AM
Boosh!
gaddes @ Aug 5th 2009 8:08PM
That artwork reminds me of the oldschool NES boxart that never looked remotely like the games themselves.

MRLN, Fountain of Wisdom and Wit @ Aug 5th 2009 8:11PM
I think it's healthier that I only own a Wii. There are so many games that aren't worth buying that I save money AND time!
deaftly @ Aug 5th 2009 8:45PM
Funny but damn sad
p07h3ad @ Aug 5th 2009 8:35PM
Well I like the game, $50 was well worth it for this and the boxart I thought was cool plus the pre-order stuff I got
I guess this makes me a piece of phail then
derickw69 @ Aug 5th 2009 8:39PM
People need to chill out, and realize that 72,000 copies sold out of 150,000 copies shipped, is not that bad considering the data that the numbers come from is only eleven days. Yeah people were expecting great numbers from this game but I think it is too early for the "OMG The Conduit bombed" flame bait that I am seeing from this.
Jacksons @ Aug 5th 2009 9:02PM
I've thrown my fair share of poo at this game, but I'll still pick it up when it's cheaper. $50 for just about any Wii game is hard for me to justify with the PS3 and 360 sitting right next to it.
Mr Mobius - the wandering artist @ Aug 5th 2009 9:07PM
While not great sales, it is saddening that this will still sell better than Okami did, which is a shame.
(Yes, I'm on an Okami rant tonight).
WINterfang @ Aug 6th 2009 12:49AM
Well since i'm pretty casual and uneducated person I'll give you my honest opinion.
Why the hell would I want to play as a dog?
