Yet another trademark has got the gaming community talking. SCEA filed a trademark application (#77794416) for a serviced called "P.S. Thanks." Considering this is a Sony trademark, we'll let you figure out what "P.S." could possibly stand for.
According to the application, "P.S. Thanks" is meant to be an "incentive rewards program geared toward quantifying, identifying and motivating top consumer base with the goal of promotion and sale of video game hardware and software." In short, Sony wants to create a PlayStation loyalty program.
IGN hypothesizes a few possibilities. The service could be a program akin to Club Nintendo that awards frequent buyers with rewards. (Most recently, top-tier Club Nintendo members were awarded an exclusive downloadable game, calendar, and Mario hat.) "P.S. Thanks" could also refer to a Trophy reward program, one that has been rumored since the inception of Trophies in the PS3 firmware. Certainly, that's something a-certain-someone would love to see. Update: SCEA offers a comment: "As you know, we have a long history of creating unique loyalty programs such as PlayStation Underground which started with the original PlayStation and has evolved into the Gamer Advisory Panel (GAP). We continue to look for ways to expand this program and simply are evaluating new naming conventions for this evolution."
[Thanks, Jeff B.]

If it is a trophy based reward program, then that would most certainly break my habit of buying multiplatform games for 360. Obviously, that depends on the rewards though, but if it's something like money on PSN then sign me up.

Once Me and a friend were going at it tooth and nail over lumines for a few weeks on xbox a few years back outdoing each others scores. It was at a point where I would play one game for 4 or 5 hours and than he just completely obliterated my score. I don't know how he did it? he must've did a bunch of meth or speed and played for 15 straight hours on one game.
that's when I realized it was dumb to try and be good at games

"November 27th, 2008-April something , 2009: My period of addiction
I did the math on it and averaged 3.3 trophies/day through that period.
Haven't really played too much at all since, until last week... that fat princess is just too cute...

Lord knows if it's a consumer loyalty program I'll get all the top level shit. I don't know if thats just for first party stuff or playstation stuff in general but I have a shit-fuck-ton of PS3, PS2, PSN & PS2 games.
If it's something like Home rewards for trophies then it's pretty cool but I'm no trophy whore and I don't care about dressing up an avatar. But, if it were some kind of a pool table for my home space then I'd be all over the trophy whoring.

At us.playstation.com, I used to have both a GAP and a BETA button by my profile. Now, the BETA button has been changed to RLS, which stands for Retail Loyalty Site, or something like that. It's for people who work for retail stores that sell video games, I guess. I don't know why they put me into the program, since I work at a grocery store that DOESN'T sell PS3 games, but this post reminded me of that. I dunno.

This is great news, I love me my PS3 and have a tone of products. It would be nice to be recognized for supporting them so much.

Linking tangible rewards to trophies is really something that should have been done from the beginning. I mean, the achievements are fun on their own, but the obvious jump to make from there would be a rewards program.

Better late than never I suppose. It seems so obvious on the surface to incentivize multiplatform owners to purchase your game because of extra rewards for achieving in game challenges. It's so obvious that it will probably never happen.
