Not only was BlizzCon sold out in under a half hour over the two days tickets were on sale, turns out it was all done in eight measly minutes -- like an Onyxia run at lvl 80. Big Download took note of the reveal during Activision Blizzard's conference call with investors, where the publisher with more gold than the old Titan vault in Uldaman revealed the 20,000 tickets were auctioned off at $125 a pop in less time than it takes to be escorted out of a job interview for admitting a World of Warcraft habit.
We spoke with someone deep in the Azerothian trenches, WoW.com Senior Editor Mike Schramm, who tells us, "The official line might be eight minutes, but I was there: the queue filled up in about 20 seconds. It may have taken eight minutes for the queue to go through and sell the place out, but if you were past about 1800 in the queue, you were out of luck. And they hit that number about 20 seconds in." Sad Pandaren.

So WoW players actually leave the house for a whole day? This must be like a pilgrimage of sorts, a once in a lifetime experience of divine proportions.

20,000 tickets / 8 minutes = 2,500 tickets a minute at $125 each, so...
2,500 x $125 = $312,500 a minute x 8 minutes = $2,500,000
I'd say that's a pretty good 8 minutes, hell, I probably wont make the equivalent of 1 minute worth of tickets in my entire life

People are really willing to spend all their hard earned cash to see people dress up as WoW characters, hear Blizzard talking about all the updates to WoW they'll never release (that the subscription supposedly covers) and end up putting in an "Expansion Pack" you have to pay full retail for? Oh and of course to see 10 seconds of Diablo III gameplay. Then maybe the third thing happening is gamers will find out that Diablo has been split into 13 different games where each version is for only one race (like that bullshit with Starcraft splitting up the 3 races into 3 separate 50 dollar games). People are so fucking stupid. Blizzard use to be a great company until they released WoW and figured out they could shit in a bag and sell it to loyal fans for 49.99 and no one would question it.

Realistically, the window of opportunity to purchase tickets was much shorter.

Is it worth the $375 to go? I'd bet most of the stuff there will revolve around WoW.

And half of these people or more haven't heard of Starcraft, I'm betting. Less than a tenth know the pain of having Ghost canceled.
Or am I just being too cynical of the mainstream WoWers?

You're being too cynical. I play wow but Starcraft is what got me into pc gaming. I was really disappointed when ghost got cancelled particularly bc it looked so badass. Honestly though, I'll be reading the blogs like joystiq here mainly for info about diablo than anything else. Afterall diablo was the first online game I played, and in a LAN cafe if you all remember those.

Damn, that's as fast as Penn State student football season tickets sold out a year ago. FOOTBALL.
All I can say is awesome.

Here at LSU you have to be waiting in line to wait in line to purchase student tickets for LSU football games while you are still in the womb.

Sadly, I can't compete with that cause PSU has changed their ticket crap every year. But that year, they started doing TIcketmaster sales....everything was sold out in 8 minutes, and it pretty much DoS attacked Ticketmaster.
I just love that game tickets sold out just as fast as football tickets...it makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
P.S. - Screw you comment system.

Actually just in the past 3 years they reworked their whole system (just for students season ticket holders still suffer. I have a set that I inherited. Been in the family for like 4-5 decades). Now each season the slate is wiped and you have to go and wait in line the old fashioned way. No online bullshit and no waiting lists. I like it better this way.

Sold out way faster than 8 minutes...maybe that's the total time people spent paying for them, but both times they went on sale the allotted tickets were sold within 8 _seconds_ each time.
I.E. I was spamming refresh, as soon as it loaded and I got in...10,000th in line! Missed tickets both times, and I was literally in within seconds. That being said I no longer really play any Blizzard games, but Blizzcon was a blast and I'm going again this year, it's the only "con" I've attended, but plenty of people who have gone to many say it's one of the best. The people knocking it and/or the people attending on the Joystiq forums I'm sure are super cool for not attending it. :D Don't worry guys, we'll nerd it up and play Diablo 3 for your amusement while you stay home and preserve your self-image!
