Eh, I kinda like it too. I think it's neat to be able to access your friends / achievements via Windows games.

Not coming along as nicely as my facial hair, Planet!

So even!

So full!

And my clothes! So starched!

So crisp!

So fitting!

Considering that there was nothing really at E3 related to GFW, it's good that they are finally doing something with it.

I know E3 isn't really about PCs anymore, but my PC would like some love too.

And now I have a policy for not feeding douchie Nintendoit trolls with douchie facial hair and general overall doucheness and shit baggery antics.

I love how even though I've explained it numerous times, have an explanation of it in my title, had her royal highness Queen Justin the Muffin-Topped explain it when he gave me my B-b-b-b-brush With Fame (episode 82 (Ultrastiq Edition), 1:25:55 in), people still ask "HEY IS THAT REALLY YOU?!?!?!"

No idea why, but when I bought Gears of War for my PC, I couldn't get GFWL to work for anything. I couldn't register or play online. Since they I have been 100% Steam for PC gaming, and consoles for the rest.

I'm sure it's come a long way and I'm glad people are out there enjoying it now. It was just my own experience that was so off putting that I never felt the need to return to their service.

The GFW games (Dawn of War 2, GTA4, Fallout 3, Quantum of Solace, Street Fighter 4, etc) are already on Steam.

What this update does is make GFW *more* like Steam. It allows developers to tie games to a gamertag like Steam ties games to your account, meaning install limits and other intrusive methods of DRM are gone. The unfortunate thing is that you can't run GFW-Live enabled games in an offline mode for singeplayer like you can with Steam. At least I can't with Dawn of War 2.

Get Blizzard games working with Games for Windows Live and I may be interested. Otherwise I doubt I'd buy PC games just because it had this service. I used it for Fallout 3, but hated having to log in just to play a single player game.

Too bad you can't scale the damn thing.. Sitting on the couch playing at 1920x1200 on the big screen, you have to walk right up to the screen to read the GFW overlay..
It's not bad but it's got a ways yet.

They tried with Shadowrun. But the game didn't catch on, so they haven't tried since then. I heard they tweaked the control (made it clumsier) of the PC version to even out the odds against xbox 360 players. That's a problem they've got to solve for future cross-platform games.

The problem with Shadow Run was, A) The game was ok but short on content. and B) They handicapped PC players so badly in an attempt to even the playing field most of the skill and advantages of playing with a mouse and keyboard were lost...and thus it was frustrating.

GFWL is worth nothing if you don't keep supporting it with your own games: not releasing Gears of War 2 on PC and Alan Wake is in doubt for a PC version. It is now basically supported by a couple of third-party games.

Neither Gears of War 2 or Alan Wake were made by Microsoft. They are both developed by third parties.

True, but their publishing is heavily influenced by Microsoft, if not controlled by them. They won't come to the PC because Microsoft finally realized that it does more harm than good to have the games released on both. I don't have an 360, and part of the reason was that many of the games that i was interested in were announced for the PC, too. I not the only one who feels that way, and i don't think MS are too thrilled about that. That may change in due time, but not while the 360 is still thriving.

With that said, i find GFWL to be extremely bare. I only have Gears of War, and it's nice to have the achievements and such, but the marketplace doesn't do anything for me. Now if they opened the marketplace to sell full version games or put up demos of them, it would make far more interesting, but it would take a lot of resources to go up against the other DD service, especially Steam.

Ridiculous for Microsoft to feel that way. Many gamers are primarily or only 360 or PC gamers. I am unlikely to purchase a 360 to play some of its exclusive games, just release them for Windows and I will happily purchase them. Its not like Microsoft desperately needs to get more 360 sales, they are doing just fine in sales with many of their purchasers being console gamers only.

Well, let's do some market research Shall we?

Gears of War 1 on Xbox 360 gained many GotY awards, sold millions of copies, and the gamers praise the game for it's technical prowess, and engadging story line.

On the PC, the game sold thousands of copies at best, as gamers cited the reason was they thought the game was "boring".

The market doesn't seem to want a sequel, why waste the time, money and rescources in building one?

You make a point Duscrom, but porting Gears of War 2 to the PC should not be difficult, due to it using the Unreal Engine 3 engine. It shouldn't take too long and be too costly and even if it doesn't sell millions on the PC, they should be able to make a profit on it.

Its a shame, I'd like to play it on the PC with better graphics, keyboard and mouse option and mod support. : (

One of the main reason why Gears 1 wasn't praised for either gameplay or graphics was because it was released so late for the PC. At that time, the PC should be capable of doing much more that what an old X360 title can do.

The fact that Gears 1 PC also didn't really include anything new besides a few single player mission only made it more clear that it is nothing but a port of a X360 game (a long delayed port at that). If both Gears 1 was release on both PC and X360 at the same time, the sale figures for the PC should be better.

Kinda sucks, since Windows Live enabled games make it a lot more difficult to use Single Player trainers, which many people use to complete or just have fun.

Yeah yeah yeah...neener neener cheater cheater. F***k it . If I spend my money on a game, I want to be able to finish it. I had TONS of fun in Wolverine, and when I got stuck because I'm a Lam3r I used a trainer and got past that point and played through.

It was one of the most fun Action gaming experiences I've had in a long time.

Now compare that with Infamous, where I'm stuck on a critical mission and haven't played it in a month.

I'm totally against trainers and cheats in MULTIPLAYER. And if you want to stop me gaining achievement points in singleplayer I'm quite ok with that as well.

In fact, give me the option of playing with or without this Microsoft Live stuff which slows down the launching of a singleplayer game and I'd be even happier.

Yeah but Nerdy, why don't you sell it and get a Blu-Ray player?

http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/-/836/1052/-/9481384/Samsung-BD-P1600-Blu-ray-Player/Product.html?searchtype=genre

You'll probably have to put about £60 towards it, though.
