If you've decided that the Halo 3: ODST Collector's Edition isn't for you and you enjoy saving money, we've got some good news for you. Buy.com is currently offering ODST pre-orders for only $49.99, a full $10 off the retail price. Even better, shipping is free. And don't worry, you'll still get your redemption code to play as the invincible, cigar chomping Sgt. Johnson too.
If you haven't already laid down pre-order money elsewhere (or even if you have), this is a pretty decent deal.

Hmmm... sounds good! That $10 could be used on pizza and beer or something. LOL.

I still believe this is a $30-40 game. All it is is a new campaign ($20 value going by gta4 standards) plus three new maps for halo 3 ($10 value) and a multiplayer mode - firefight ($10). $20+$10+$10 = $40. Maybe the campaign is bigger than a $20 value, but I'll wait for reviews and if they aren't mindblowing (and the game isn't at least 10 hours), I'll just rent the game.

Bungie has rated the campaign at 4 to 5 hours long. Halo 3 was rated at 10 to 12 hours long. So it's less than half the length of Halo 3's campaign.

Random question: in looking at the special edition that comes with the controller, do you think the controller comes with a battery pack or the back where you have to insert 2 AA batteries..i'm thinking the latter, but if anyone knows for sure, i'm curious.

It is the kind that takes double A batteries. Also, you can only buy Microsoft batteries with the Halo 3 logo on them.

I haven't played Halo 3 in a few months. Don't get me wrong.. I love Halo but have been busy with other titles. Everytime I hear new info and see new screenshots of this game.. I'm really wanting to get back into the Halo universe. Man I love this franchise. This one looks good.

I'll stick with Amazon. I shop enough that a $10 video games credit is almost the same thing anyways. (plus I pre-ordered back when it was slightly discounted as well)

I regret not preordering it at the lower price but i did use a $25 gift card bringing the game down to $35. Not too shabby.

This looks like a good deal! Does anyone know if Buy.com is reliable? And how long does their shipping take?

Is "buy.com" reliable? I'd only buy from "buy.com" or Orbitz if I wanted my credit card stolen by a popup ad vendor. If you DO shop from "buy.com", only use PayPal ... strange but true:

I pre-ordered Halo Wars thru buy.com and received it the Saturday before its Tuesday release date. Could depend where you live and where they ship from. I'm in Chicago and was shocked to see it arrive before the release date.

Are the pre-order codes working yet? I've tried mine from Best Buy, and I get an invalid code error. I could always pre-order from buy.com, then "return" my preorder to Best Buy. No need to give the code back...

I don't quite see how that will work - I'm assuming the code will be bundled INSIDE the shrink wrap - i inherited a gears 2 box from someone and the pre-order code was inside the box.
anyways, point being once the shrink wrap is broken u own it and can't return it as new.

placed my order
it doesn't quite work as good as advertised - free shipping can take up to a week and a half which sorts of negates the point of pre-ordering in my book.
however they offer $2.99 2-day shipping. so net net, you're getting it for $53 instead of $60 and getting it on thursday instead of tuesday - not a big deal for me since i wouldn't be able to play it until the weekend anyways.
pretty good deal tho.

The pre-order from BB comes in a 360 shell, with the code on a card similar to the Gears codes. Ah well, I may "pre-order" a few more, then come September 23rd, when pre-orders are gone, and all kinds of folks want the codes but can't get them, I'll sell the code, then "return" the pre-order as not purchased. Cashiers there usually don't know that there's a gift with it, so I just get my money back, and make a buck selling the code on eBay.
