Huxley's closed beta now open to North America
If you've been following the saga of MMOFPS Huxley and anxiously awaiting your chance to play, then here it is, as Fileplanet is offering entrance into the beta for all US and Canadian gamers. The rub is that you must have a Fileplanet account and an account at developer iiji's site, though setting up both takes but a few clicks and keystrokes. So get out there and play, which, to be honest, is a possibility we've long associated with things such as riding on the back of Nessie and playing blackjack with Big Foot.

To save everyone the trouble: The servers are laggy, the graphics sub-par compared to recent offerings and it just feels very much like a beta. Try grabbing Section 8, it's a much betaa (better) offering
CzAr @ Aug 6th 2009 11:35PM
There are no servers. It's P2P. On max settings.. it looks like crap.
BlackDove @ Aug 7th 2009 7:21AM
I don't know what you people are talking about. Maybe about morons hosting it on their 128k.
I've got an EU team going on my 10mb line the moment the servers open, 16 player skirmishes non stop, I'm up till 5am every day.
No lag for anyone. Great matches.
The game is great just for the fact it's a souped up Unreal Tournament with MMO skill progression and class choice.
Cheesus(Crust) @ Aug 6th 2009 7:06PM
I've been playing this...
And sad to report the hype has failed. It sucks, yes I said it.
Its a DIRECT CLONE of UT3, the matches are no more than 16vs16, but instead of a server list its a lobby system, big fucking deal. And you have to buy the upgraded weps. I'm sorry, but this game was so much full of potential but they ruined it..

so wait, what makes this an MMO again? The fact that its a FPS with just an online component?
incendious @ Aug 6th 2009 7:24PM
I think a persistent world/environment is one of the requirements for meeting the MMO specifications, along with a massive number of multiplayers online.
Levi @ Aug 6th 2009 11:14PM
It has claimed since 2005 that it would offer the same kind of persistent world as any normal MMO, as well as an extensive PvE aspect. Personally, since I've been watching this game evolve over the past few years, I can see that it appears to have plenty of MMO elements, but the gameplay looks just like UT, so I'm more interested to try out the PvE than anything.
Since I haven't tried it yet, I can onlysay that it is *supposed* to have a leveling system, an economy, instanced missions that can be played with parties, and PvP, so basically everything that makes a game an MMO, just with first person shooting instead of clicking on icons.
Kevin949 @ Aug 6th 2009 7:24PM
so it's battlefield+unreal? Damn, I'm not looking forward to trying to play now during their weird beta hours. Well, weird for me cuz of work anyway. I'll still give it a shot though.
Vincent J. Murphy @ Aug 6th 2009 7:29PM
I couldn't get the thing to work as anything other than a bad slideshow projector. I couldn't even get past the character selection. I suck at beta testing.
bVork @ Aug 6th 2009 7:47PM
Try running the game windowed.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that it's not Mac compatible.
Nobody shows us love these days. Now I'm gonna go cry on Kongregate, where I'm loved.
The Dark Wang(Wiizer Sweatshop Dick) @ Aug 6th 2009 8:10PM
I got banned from kongregate once. ONCE.
Aaron @ Aug 6th 2009 8:35PM
Shouldn't you appreciate alliteration?

Crap! I missed that open opportunity to overstate what I meant. Thank you for your YES! inducing suggestion.
Levi @ Aug 6th 2009 11:16PM
you got a Mac... you're surprised a niche game gave you the shaft? I know Apple is getting more support recently in the gaming sector, but it's still far from a gaming computer.
The Baron @ Aug 7th 2009 12:03AM
Mac - same concept as a console, but with none of the good points.
acme @ Aug 6th 2009 8:00PM
skirmish doens't even work, which is the only reason i wanna play
Nadril @ Aug 6th 2009 8:33PM
Don't even bother with it. I made it to where I could join a skirmish and I was met with the worst lag I've ever experienced in my life.
t_m @ Aug 7th 2009 4:55AM
you could, you know, report it and help them fix it.
isn't that what betas are for? I forget these days...
Chris Miller @ Aug 6th 2009 8:49PM
I don't get it. Closed beta NOW in North America? I'm in Michigan and I did the closed beta weeks ago. And yes, it's a terrible UT3 rip-off.
Levi @ Aug 6th 2009 11:19PM
I've been waiting to play this game since 2005. Unfortunately, watching it evolve has lead me to believe that it won't be what I wanted it to be. I don't like the really fast moving, takes-a-million-shots-to-get-a-kill games, like UT or Quake Live. I'm a much bigger Counter-Strike fan. Especially, all the comments I've read since the closed beta sarted in the US, my high hopes have diminished quite a bit.
I'm still curious about the PvE missions and MMO aspects of the game. I don't play MMO's for the PvP... I play them because they are fun, populated with other people, and have missions, progression, exploration, collection, and are updated frequently. Hopefully I'll find something in this game that I like, as everyone's negative comments seem to be about the PvP.
Levi @ Aug 6th 2009 11:24PM
what does that have to do with this at all...?
knor @ Aug 6th 2009 11:59PM
All joy I had for this game went away when I learned this was an ijji game
Timett @ Aug 7th 2009 12:45AM
I was psyched for this game back when I first read about it... Before the 360 was released!
Times have changed.
Johnny Neat @ Aug 7th 2009 8:47AM
I take it this is no longer scheduled for release on the 360?
linoge @ Aug 7th 2009 2:45PM
i think a first person view would have been a better idea when playing
and keep a third person view when you in the city
Lorem @ Aug 8th 2009 8:32PM
Who gives a shit? The game is already 4 years dated.
