I went to PAX 08 and although it saddens me not to go this year, PAX East is my light at the end of tunnel.

**sigh**. Yeah I know =/

they must exsist somewhere!! There has to be 'core gamer girls somewhere! The type that date & make out, not play halo3 for money in competitions. Playing Only 1 game doesn't count.

Otakon's not even that great, to be quite honest. I've been once (the year JAM Project played--and the only reason I went. WORTH IT FOR THAT REASON ALONE.) And really, I've had a better time at every Anime Boston I've been to. Granted, that's coming from someone that took the 10 hour drive from RI, but still.

I haven't been to a DragonCon since I was about seven. In other words, I don't remember a damn thing about it.

Is it cool enough to warrant a visit?

I'll be there. Of course I'll be there. I'm from the area. Not being there gets your gamercard revoked by the board of Nintendo and Microsoft. Based on their pre-order sales, it's going to be super packed this year.

sadly i will not be there. been the last 3 years, and had a blast each time. even having a new baby didnt stop me going last year!

sadly i moved away from Seattle for work, and this year i'll actually be in Germany on a business trip when its going on.

I still dont know that I agree with their decision to move PAX to labor day weekend, but oh well.

Went last year, probably never going again.

Was exactly the right size so as to be so big everywhere was crowded, and too small to get decent crowd control. Also, every panel of interest was scheduled at the same time, on opposite sides of the convention center.

And the insane price of parking likewise didn't help at all.

Where did you park? I got $7 valet parking all day in the basement of some hotel a block from the convention center last year. It was weird seeing my POS next to 50k cars. You gotta be willing to hunt and ask around.

Too high up there for me. Wish they'd do something in the middle of the country so it would be easier to get to.

I agree. I'm not forking over $200 to fly 2000 miles to go to any convention..

I was recently thinking that I don't quite get the appeal of these gaming-related conferences, other than the opportunity they present to meet other gaming enthusiasts.

Then I read some of the comments on gaming websites, and realize that's not much of an opportunity.

You guys enjoy, though!

You mean other than getting to play games that aren't even out yet (or have demos out yet), or getting to grip-n-grin with people in the biz. Not to mention all the swag? What kind of gamer wouldn't look forward to going to one of these conventions?

What amazes me about the comments above is the fact that people moan about its location. Do you have any idea how many people from outside of the US go to PAX? It's a very large amount, I know I'm one of them as I'm flying in from London. There are others from Europe, Africa, Asia and Australasia that attend the event. Spare a thought for those attendees the next time ou believe PAX to be too distant to get to...

Just one issue with this... The image at the top reads "ATTENTION, NERDS: Felicia Day will take your awkward questions in hall D."

However Felicia Day has forsaken us this year for Dragon Con. :(
