- Steam has cut the price of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition by 30 percent, bringing the game's cost to an extremely reasonable $27.99.
- The game recently received a Director's Cut which patches in more female and male nudity than your fragile little brain could possibly comprehend. We're talking oodles of unclothed bathing suit areas, folks.

Definitely a game that requires a bit of intelligence. And by intelligence, I mean a walkthrough.
I immensely enjoyed it up until the point I had to deal with about 3 different puzzles at once (activating that giant guy with the lightning that you have to go get the poles made for in the swamps, anyone)? I got bored of trying to solve that one, even with the method of how to do it right in front of me.

Kinda like the visual novel Fate Stay/Night. Come for the ero-scenes, stay for the plot.

But let's face it. If you're reading this, you should know that you do so from a veritable mountain of obscene and shocking imagery; you need only turn off google SafeSearch.

Just bought this for $40 from Direct2drive like 1.5 weeks ago. Combat is pretty alright, but the way its done your not really enjoying the animations, because you're too busy watching your cursor to assure that you do your combat timings right. Also, the game runs way too laggy for its graphics level. I can run oblivion maxed out with a few mods in to make it look better no problem, but I cant even run this at my native resolution on medium without it going to lag hell. 1024x768, with most settings on high, is about as good as it gets. Also, inventory is kind of annoying. You have plenty of slots for potions and the like, but no matter how empty it is, you cannot carry any weapons in your inventory, just the ones you have on your person.
Money is hard to come by too. Youll be poor most of the game.
No character customization, only about 4-5 different suits of armor in the entire game (and you will only get 3 different ones max per playthrough, due to the way the story branches).
Even leveling up is kinda restricted. You cant really make a varied character, as it restricts how many points you can put into things like strength. After putting 2 points into your strength (which you could do at lvl 1), you cant put in any more until you hit lvl 15. Youll never have enough points to max everything, but the number of truely effective "builds" is probably limited to about 4-5, max.
NPC models are repeated like nobodies business. Even many storyline NPCs you see will share exact models and voices with their generic counterparts. (I.E. a priest you have to do quests for in the start of the game looks exactly the same as the generic priests that walk around town one level later. Also, all the innkeepers look exactly the same)
That being said, the combat itself is pretty fun, theres lots of quests, its very well written, and very clever. This is a game done by a really small company, and I think this is their first game. It really feels like it could have been much better of a game if it had proper funding Hopefully this game sells well enough that they can make a proper sequel.

One might wish Joystiq would spend even just ONE word mentioning this is US-only. The Witcher isn't even out on Steam in the EU, not in any version.
Of course, like so many other self-centered US websites, the rest of the world might just as well not exist as far as Joystiq's concerned, so why should I be surprised.
