I'm sure it'll be able to work on PC, especially all of the work done towards the SDK. So I think this relates more towards the 360.

And as a PC gamer I can say that I want the whole roast, but I want Gabe to feed it to me over a nice candlelit dinner. With Warren Spector.

I have an idea... why don't Valve just DELAY L4D2 for about a year and kill two birds with one stone?

L4d was only out less than a year, which makes it ripe for DLC. Give people time to buy their DLC and make some moneys

A lot of people aren't too interested in the marginal upgrades L4D2 will have over the original, so bake it a little more and make it even better

And quite frankly, this is VALVE we're talking about. It would be a real shame if one of their blockbuster games ISN'T delayed, breaking a longstanding record. We won't blame them. Quite frankly, I'm sure most of us expect a delay any moment now.

I don't need to see L4D shoehorned into the sequel. I have hands and one minute of patience. I can just switch discs if I want to play the other. They're right, the new cast wouldn't mesh with No Mercy and such, and the new weapons would probably break the old maps even further.

I would love if if they kept making new mini-campaigns for L4D1. It keeps me happy that I didn't buy a game that became obsolete within a year.

What I think would be amazing would be if owners of both L4D and L4D2 could choose any of the 8 survivors and that the dialog you hear would depend on which characters were chosen. Naturally this would include any DLC.

It would mean recording a lot more lines, but it would basically solve both Valve's and the players' problems. Especially if the extra survivors are only available for campaigns you've already completed.

It would probably get L4D2 delayed to 2010 if they tried to get it in before launch, though.

8v8 L4D action. That would be AWESOME.

And yes, I've seen the youtube videos before, but I think legitimate 8v8 would be awesome, but really hard to balance.

I'm guessing if it wasn't for the 360 version of L4D, this probably wouldn't even be an issue.

For PC gamers, it's not much of an issue anyway, since the modding tools hit a few weeks ago, we've been constantly hit with new quality maps and campaigns like Death Aboard, Dam It, Night Terrors, and Heaven Can Wait.

This game is all kinds of awesome, and I'll definitely be picking up L4D2 day 1 (pre-loading actually on Steam), but as long as Valve supports to modding community, regardless of their own DLC stuff, I will always buy their stuff on the PC.

They should just treat Left 4 Dead 2 like a standalone expansion. It can tell if you have the original game installed and if you do then you can play the original maps with the appropriate characters online with anyone else who also has Left 4 Dead 1.

That way not only will fans of the original be happy with carrying over their old content, but Valve can continue selling copies of the original as a map pack. It's a win-win situation.

They still have time to can the worthless 4 retards in L4D2 and replace them with the classic cast of characters everyone already likes.

"What would you find more disruptive -- re-worked character dialogue, or recently purchased, incompatible DLC?"

How about option 3: Having to pay for DLC on the console that the PC gets for free?

Oh, all right, I'll stay on topic...

Just how much "re-worked dialog" are we talking about anyway? The characters make occasional environmental references, but most of the time they're yelling "SMOKER! OVER THERE! GET IT OFF OF ME! HELP! Oh, no, not Franc-- AMMO OVER HERE!" If you bring Crash Course into L4D2, why should it need any reworking to hear Coach yelling about a hunter pouncing Rochelle in Riverside rather than the Louisiana Parish?

I don't know if it's in the scope of your original question, but I definitely would like to see all 8 characters together eventually, with lines recorded so Francis could warn Ellis of an impending Spitter attack, and maybe when Rochelle takes out a Charger, Zoey can congratulate her with a "You go, girl".

But they'll probably make that a DLC pack, give it away on the PC, and charge console players for it anyway. :P

People need to stop bitching about this and just let valve do their thing! Just let them release dlc for the old game and then later fro the new game. Why are people complaining about how quick the new game is coming out! They should be happy to slaughter zombies again so quickly! Baby's!

L4D 2 has five campaigns, L4D has four campaigns...L4D is getting a fifth campaign as a DLC when L4D2 comes out. Why should L4D 2 get it? It's balanced, it works. I'd rather Valve spend their time on new content rather than trying to rework what will be "old" content.

Just put the old characters in the new game, along with the old campaigns.

But if for some reason they couldn't do that, then yes, I'd accept the story not making sense if it means I can play the new L4D1 Campaign in L4D2. I really don't see myself buying the new campaign on the 360 unless I can play it in L4D2.

If character or story was an important factor in L4D, there would be cut scenes. Sure the dialogue is funny, but most of the time I'm talking to the other players, and don't hear what Zoey has to say anyways.

So much for L4D as a platform....

I'm not trying to be a whiney ass but I won't buy the DLC (360 here) unless it works with the sequel. I blow way to much on these "micro-transactions" and I really need to start gaming smarter.

Agreed, I'm not wasting money on an extra campaign that nobody will want to play in 6 months if it doesn't work in L4D2....
Fuck continuity of story and whatnot, this is left 4 dead not a damn movie!

I would love to see a very thorough integration of L4D1 to L4D2 from the characters to the maps, weapons, enemies, and especially the online community.

I'm all for a good story, but I hate how developers feel like EVERYTHING has to fit into it.

If it's bonus content, who cares? Just stick it in there. We don't even need voices or interaction or anything, just let us play the level without that rather than not playing it at all.

It's the same thing with co-op. A game doesn't have to be designed around co-op to have it, just stick another player in there that's not involved in the story or cutscenes at all a la players 3 and 4 in Halo 3 or player 2 in Saints Row 2.

I don't think valve should make the DLC playable on L4D2. It's a campaign for Bill, Francis, Louis, and Zoey.

do what Rock Band did. burn it to the hard drive, put in L4D 2, and let us use all the old maps and characters with new levels and new characters. Mix and Match!

Oh, come on! This is free (for PC owners and only $7 for Xbox owners) DLC for a game you already have. If you don't have it, then don't get the DLC. Get L4D2.

I really don't get what everyone's problem here is.

Take a cue from Rock Band / Rock Band 2. Make the four campaigns on the L4D 1 disc uploadable and playable from the HDD when you have L4D 2 in the system. Also have the DLC cross compatible. The only twist is the new game is going to have a new look to it, four different playable characters and a mess of other things Valve decided to try to tweak to gain a larger audience. I don't know what they were thinking. They have a strong fan base that they've catered to for a long time. L4D 2 just leaves a bad taste in my mouth like they're releasing the L4D version they ACTUALLY wanted to make after selling the preview at $60 a pop.
