wait, so activision might be getting a little compensation instead of losing in court.

correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds to me like activision came out on top of this one.
I mean they had nothing to do with this game before going to court and now they may be receiving little compensation?

I figure they're getting a 20% off coupon for a copy of Brutal Legend.

Paul: Activision was the original publisher. They shelled out $10 million to Double Fine before they decided for some stupid reason or another that Brutal Legend just wasn't worth it. It was only when EA bought the game they realized what a stupid mistake they'd made.

At swag:

Isn't publishing a game a lot like distribution rights for a film? If it is, then that means Activision didn't drop money on the actual development of the title.

Good to hear. I hate Activion with a passion. Remember people we are boycotting COD MW 2. Just rent it or buy it used.

I am beyond annoyed at Activision as well... I will not buy another game by them for the foreseeable future. Though it would be tough not getting MW2... I may just have to buy that used.

Since there's really not an option to buy it used for the PC, I'm waiting until its in the bargain bin, plenty of other games to waste my life away with anyways. Besides, I'm a single-player gamer, that game would only last me a few hours anyways since its designed for 6 hours of SP and 600+ hours of MP.

I don't like Activision either very much, but the MW2 Steelbook will be mine opening day. I will however, boycott all their other games..as long as they're not made by Infinity Ward...

Quick Question for you:

If we're all boycotting COD4MW2, and our method of boycott is to rent it... or buy it used... wouldn't buying it used mean the boycott failed because someone already bought it?

Usually people who say games suck, are ones who have never played them. I feel sorry that you can't see the sheer brilliance that is Psychonauts, Winterfang. It's probably the most original game that's come out this decade.

To enact revenge on the populous, Activision will now copyright the names "Country Band", "Jazz Band", and "Renaissance Band".

Expect an onslaught of plastic banjos, saxophones, and fifes.

Jazz Band would be epic. Maybe not as good as Funk Band, or Disco-Fusion Band, or Reggae Band, or Prog Band, but still up there.

Aww man, I was hoping that activision would get the licence and we could have Guitar Hero Adventures.

Also a new main character, one designed by a focus group. That would rock so hard that the heavens would weep blood.
Plus they could delay it a whole bunch because there is nothing I love more than not playing a great games, something the games industry is very good at giving me.

You really know your case didn't have a leg to stand on when you lose a settlement. I figured the settlement at least included compensation for all of Activision's legal fees, as well as any money that they had originally invested in the title

well, Activision "losing" made my day, although not enough to off set the fact the SE's teaser site was Lord Of Vermilion II :-(

I will not be buying any Activision games for a very long time. The only games with Activision attached to their names that I will/may be purchasing are the ones that have anything to do with Blizzard. Just knowing that Blizzard has anything to do with Activision and the possibility that they may somehow be influenced by that dreadful company has somewhat tainted them in my mind as well, and it kills me.

On a related note, I truly cannot wait for people like Bobby Kotick, Tim Langdell, and Jack Thompson to just disappear. I had to hold back from using stronger language there. These guys aren't doing anything to help video games reach their potential and allow the people who play video games to enjoy them.

Congratulations to Double Fine and EA!

Fail Activision, fail.

Settlement doesn't make it so there isn't a loser, settling just makes it so we don't know who the loser is, like a covert game of football.
