It's befuddling how many of these PSN titles launch without a demo. They don't even have to create a standalone demo, they can just put a 30 minutes time limit on the full version until an unlock code is purchased. I don't care if it's only 10 bucks, we deserve a chance to test drive the game before putting down a red cent. Period.

Aren't PSN games already pretty much demos? Or at least the same length of a demo?

There are plenty of other games they expect you to buy for 60 bucks that dont get a demo, it would seem more logical to complain about THOSE more so than an 8 dollar game of breakout with fancy graphics. Besides it's gotten plenty of good reviews, if you havent bought it based on the available evidence that more than supports it being a worthwhile purchase than the only thing that WOULD sway a person is a demo.

Hey, why the downvotes? Sorry fanboys, I've never played a PSN game before. Now go change your pants and calm down.

"Hey, why the downvotes?"

Because you're a retard? At least that was the reason I downvoted you.

"I've never played a PSN game before."

Then STFU & GTFO.

I don't think he's complaining per se. It's just that demo = moooore sales if the game is actually good. You don't need a lot of advertising, if somebody can download a demo of your product and see for themselves if the game is awesome. The thing is: I never heard of Shatter before it released and that is why I did not risk buying it. If I played the demo, I would probably change my mind, as now I'm hearing a lot of praise. Well, I would know whether the game was great or not straight when it released just by playing the demo.

So as I said:
demo for a good, indie game = more sales.

Also, I can't comment on the amount of Steam (PC release) games sold, as we don't have any estimates, but I am worried that this game might get 'lost' between other offerings on XBLA. Small developers like the PSN because they can be 'seen' there and get to the public easy. The latest store content is streamlined, and they are not competing in a sea of, mostly crappy, five minute games. It's harder to overlook a new game on the PSN, mostly because it is not being overflooded with random content. And personally I think, that's a brilliant thing, as the selection on the Playstation Network is simply stunning in terms of quality.

Quality over Quantity anytime, Sony.

Don't get me wrong, I love XBLA (Magic: TG FTW), but I can understand why they may be worried about investing in a small, indie game on such a huge network.

Do you know how many people worked on Shatter? 4 or 5 people. THAT'S why it launched without a demo. At some point, they need to get paid, and for the people who aren't too stubborn to drop cash on a game with near universal praise and would rather not wait for a demo for people like you to try, I think it's a good choice.

If you refuse to buy every game without a demo, you're going to miss out on a LOT of great games. Fallout 3, for example. Oblivion. Sacred 2. LittleBigPlanet. I can go on.

WTF kind of sense does that make? Castle Crashers was made by 2 people. Braid made by one person. Both had demos.

Most arcade games are built by very small teams, most with demos. That's the worst excuse I've ever heard.

most interesting..Shatter is a GREAT game from what I hear. I would think that once they get enough money from the PSN version they will take money from that into funding other version.

It's really very mediocre. I'd not recommend it. I'm not half way and I can't be bothered anymore - it's just the same, all the way through. The music is crap compared to SSDHD and it's only breakout, which never was fun for more than five minutes. Only if you strongly disagree with that should you go and buy it.

I disagree completely, the game is fantastic. And, no, its not just Breakout. The ability to manipulate the ball and other objects on the field with wind (or whatever it's supposed to be) combined with the bosses changes the feel of the game significantly. It's clearly following the basic Breakout formula, but its not Breakout. Also, who cares if you don't think the music is as good as SSDHD? If you don't have the best music you're crap? IMO, the soundtrack is very good.

I completely agree with Vidikron. This game was better than I had expected it to be. The visuals are stunning, the soundtrack is exciting, and the gameplay was so addicting that I just couldn't find excuses to put it down. At its current price, I'd say it's definitely worth picking up.

This game is pretty good and the price is definitely right, but for me it was one of those play for two nights in a row and then never again. But for the experience of the beautiful graphics and basically paying about $2 bucks an hour of gameplay it gets my recommendation if you are not running a tight budget.

If you are a score chaser on 360 and PC you will likely be quite happy, but if not, prepare to be a little underwhelmed (very slightly) because it's a competent and good game, but it is possible to finish on the first go around without even using a continue.

I just don't understand why all PSN arcade games does not have free trials for every single one, seriously. How would people know they're really good if they can't try it for themselves without spending money. This Shatter game will do better on Xbox Live anyway.

Maybe if this drops on XBLA with a demo I'll consider picking it up. Just another sale lost for Sony by refusing to force these developers to put demos up with their games.

Then again, maybe that's why moving 30,000 copies on PSN is considered great while high profile XBLA games are hitting the quarter million mark within the first month.

for games without demos, I just go on the internet and read reviews and descriptions of the game.

Then I decide if I would would be willing to pay the price of the game for what it is offering me. Then if I buy it and its not great, I chalk it up to experience and move on, or maybe come back to it when i'm more in the mood.

no one dies...

its a great game btw.

If PSN-only game doesn't have a demo released alongside the full game simultaneously, I will be more likely to ignore it later.

I'm almost relieved that the AMAZING Shatter will go to Xbox Live. No, I don't have a 360, but because of that, I also don't have Castle Crashers or Braid.

I was almost feeling guilty of the fact that some of our [PSN] best titles are first-party, while it seems like most XBLA games are third-party. lol

But yeah, you give us some awesome games, we'll give you an awesome game.

I went ahead and made a list of games that are third-party exclusives, meaning that there may be a chance that they could move over to another platform. (For the record, first-party is defined as being published by SCEA, and therefore, SOE doesn't count.)

Astro Tripper, Burn Zombie Burn, Cash Guns Chaos, Championship Sprint, Comet Crash, Cuboid, Gauntlet II, GTI Club+, High Stakes: Poker Edition, Jeopardy!, Joust, Lumines Supernova, Magic Ball, Mahjong Tales, Mortal Kombat II, Noby Noby Boy, Novastrike, The Punisher: No Mercy, Q*Bert, Rampage, Rampart, Red Baron Arcade, Shatter, Soldner-X: Himmelssturmer, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle Cars, Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, Wheel of Fortune, Zen Pinball

If you don't see it listed here, and you don't see it on the Xbox Live Arcade, then I'm sorry, but it will not be leaving the PlayStation Network.

(There are rare cases, though, where it MIGHT. One that comes to mind is Everyday Shooter. Published by Sony Computer Entertainment, but yet it also made its way to Steam somehow...)

I wish some of the shmups from XBLA crossed over, i miss those titles a lot on the PSN, aside from Stardust (which i already have), none of the current available ones actually interested me. I mean, they just announced Raystorm HD, which alone pwns most of the PSN shmup list.

regarding Shatter, i purchased it after hearing praise from my friends and i don't regret it, it's an addictive, well designed game, and worthwhile content-wise for the price.

hopefully Shatter's soundtrack will be available as a separate download, i'd love to listen to it on my way to work. HINT! HINT!
