So final verdict - how gimped is the wii version of Tales. I've heard "just fine" from some, and "hells of jenky" from others

It was really really gimped.

I had to turn on subtitles because the audio was so compressed I couldn't understand it at all. From now on I'll be buying the PC version. It's a shame too because the Wii remote worked great for it and it was such a nice casual way to play.

Hopefully it will see a full retail release on the Wii with the compression issues fixed. I'm even tempted to wait and see how the next wii version is, in hope they fixed how bad the first one was. But I don't my anticipation can hold out that long.

I need more Monkey.

That sucks.. maybe they should have just waited for the full season to finish and come out with it on disc.

I still need to get the first, looks like PC it is.

It was perfectly playable, but if you have a gaming PC, get the PC version.

Frame rate is universally poor (and the graphics are okay, but they mostly look like it should get 60fps on an original GameCube never mind Wii - in reality it doesn't even approach 30fps). There are annoying loading pauses and overall the game is lacking in polish (for example, during some loading, the music cuts out instead of fading; there are also points where, if the game is busy, you'll hear the music loop; when you walk off one screen and it's loading the next, the character just freezes mid-animation while the loading starts, instead of walking offscreen or a fade-out or whatever). Choosing dialogue options from those menus is a pain because inexplicably the cursor disappears and control becomes really sensitive at that point - the best way to do it is to point the remote away from the screen and then use the D-pad to select options...

As others said the audio sounds pretty bad - it's also rather quiet compared to the music (although I was able to hear it without using subtitles).

I don't have a PC set up for gaming and playing the Wii version was OK, so if that's your situation, go ahead and get it, it's a great game anyhow. But there's no particular advantage in the Wii version - yes control is fine, but control with mouse will be just as good/slightly better, it doesn't do anything else with the remote - so if you are choosing between them, get the PC version.

It'd be nice if Telltale could maybe optimise the Wii version a bit (er, better still, 'a lot' for future chapters), but I wouldn't expect it. I'll be getting future chapters even if they're just as bad technically...

Spoiled kids, getting a walkthrough and all. With the first Monkey Island if you were stuck, you were stuck and you'd just have to think a bit harder. You couldn't look anything up since there was no internet.

NOW GET OFF MY LAWN!

Now Now... in all fairness, LucasArts gave you this great 1-900 tipline to call! It was fantastic, and it ONLY cost 25 cents a minute! So, yeah, a lot of thinking and trying every single item in your inventory with every single item on screen. Those were the days.

Dude, it was $1 for the first minute, THEN $0.25 for each additional minute.

Sign, I still have the original Monkey Island manual that has the tip line number on the back of it. I wonder if it still works...

I'm about due for another $50 drop on the Wii Points.

Gotta raid the WiiWare pantry!

Just want to know:

How good is the Wii version of Tales? I bought Sam & Max for my Wii and while I like that game, it has alot of technical problems. Is Tales better or is it just as fucked up?

From what I hear, there's still a lot of problems.
If you want to play it, you're best just buying it from the Telltale store, that way you get it on DVD as well.

You're probably better off just getting the Steam version. $35 for the whole collection.

It probably will be. Telltale has never been good at making first episodes.

I'll tell you what franchise I'd like to see Telltale tackle next: Invader Zim.

Oh yeah.
