Swag Saturday: Picross and CrossworDS (DS) [update]

Interested in using your Nintendo DS for a ton of puzzle solving this summer? We'll bet you are, you little puzzle solver, you! That's why we're offering up a duo of puzzle games this weekend for Swag Saturday with Picross DS and CrossworDS. We're not so much for the crossword puzzles, but we do love a good handheld puzzle game (we're looking at you, Planet Puzzle League), and so we're hoping you could suggest your favorite overlooked handheld puzzle game, dearest reader. You'll have 24 hours to tell us in the comments section after the break so get rambling, ramblers!
- Leave a comment with your favorite overlooked handheld puzzle game. (That means it can be on DS or GameBoy or PSP or the iPhone, etc. -- any handheld!)
- You must be 18 years or older and a resident of the US or Canada, excluding Quebec. (Kisses, citizens of Québec!!)
- Limit 1 entry per person.
- This entry period ends at 8:01 pm ET on Sunday, August 9. We'll randomly select two winners at that time to receive: one copy of either Picross DS (ARV $11.50) or CrossworDS (ARV $19.99) (first to answer email gets to choose).

Gotta say the DS. I've way too many games for it... PSP has also greatly entertained me.
sting @ Aug 8th 2009 9:47PM
Agreed. I loved my PSP but I'd go for my DS anytime.

Polarium for the DS.
Yan @ Aug 8th 2009 8:05PM
Orbital of the Bit Generations series.
Luckily, they re-released the game as Orbient on WiiWare. Still, most people have never gotten the chance to play this classic title.
Xstinction @ Aug 8th 2009 8:06PM
I love my DSi, had a psp and got really bored with it, and now I have my ds and I'm loving all the unique games for it. Definately what I was looking for in a handheld
John M. @ Aug 8th 2009 8:06PM
Meteos for the DS, definitely. An excellent multiplayer action-puzzle game.
Spartan @ Aug 8th 2009 8:07PM
Planet Puzzle League. Multiplayer. Great times.
Wiizer (MW2 Sweatshop Entrepreneur) @ Aug 8th 2009 8:07PM
Definitely overlooking Lumines on my Sony Ericsson phone...
ToadStoolPorridge @ Aug 8th 2009 8:09PM
On your phone version, did the blocks drop to the beat of the music? I had it on one of my Verizon phones and found it to be pretty good, but the incomplete relationship between the music and the movement made a lot less fun than the PSP and PS3 versions.
ToadStoolPorridge @ Aug 8th 2009 8:07PM
Crush for the PSP is my favorite overlooked puzzler. It's concept is excellent and the execution makes the playing experience so enjoyable.
A similar game to it is Monospace on the iPhone, where it uses the same concept of rotating a 3D world and being able to shift into 2D. Both are overlooked games that are fantastic.
Spirit @ Aug 8th 2009 8:08PM
lumines is amazing
Anthony @ Aug 8th 2009 8:09PM
Anything good on the iPhone app store is always overlooked.
The Aquacharger (PSN:Elvenmonk) @ Aug 8th 2009 8:10PM
PiCTOBiTS is my favorite one. Best $5 spent.
TechNick @ Aug 8th 2009 8:13PM
"Billy Bob" is a fun little puzzle game for the iPhone thats free on the App Store.... seems pretty overlooked to me!
John @ Aug 8th 2009 8:12PM
Uhhh... Lumines. Came free on my W850i, and I loved it.
antilucid @ Aug 8th 2009 8:12PM
It would be cool to see Lumines on DSI
Chris Lammers @ Aug 8th 2009 9:04PM
Meteos for the DS!
Draklin @ Aug 8th 2009 8:14PM
I'd also have to say Polarium for the DS
ArchiGamer 2.0 @ Aug 8th 2009 8:14PM
TicTacToe on my Stone Tablet.
Hey, it was popular back in the Prehistoric times!!
Greg @ Aug 8th 2009 8:15PM
Lumines
j.howlett @ Aug 8th 2009 8:15PM
tetris on psp because it doesn't have one officially yet. they just announced a version but i think i know someone who had that and other roms on a psp
Vincent @ Aug 8th 2009 8:17PM
well I've always loved sokoban but it's not really heard of on the DS because it was a player made game and not too many ppl use R4's for legit games :D
Joe @ Aug 8th 2009 8:18PM
Lumines definitely
Kyattsuai @ Aug 8th 2009 8:19PM
I'd say Meteos, but that got a fair amount of attention. Too bad my touchscreen doesn't work properly, making it really hard to play.
Emperor_Den_Den @ Aug 8th 2009 8:18PM
man I think the joysticc writers shoul remake that soulja boy song turn my swag on and make a video for it. That would be the most epic thing on youtube.
Mr Khan @ Aug 8th 2009 8:32PM
?
Otis @ Aug 8th 2009 8:20PM
Electroplankton! I love that thing.
cgraham07 @ Aug 8th 2009 8:21PM
Meteos was definitely one of the best handheld puzzle games ever.
h0msar14 @ Aug 8th 2009 8:22PM
Meteos was kinda overlooked by the mainstream but not by reviews and stuff. I still love it.
jchensor @ Aug 8th 2009 8:22PM
I would honestly have to say Picross DS! Lumines is a good choice, but I doubt that game is even remotely "overlooked". Picross is not a game that a lot of people pay attention to, but it's super addicting and really hard to put down.
Brandon @ Aug 8th 2009 8:23PM
Flipull for GameBoy.
SecretAgentHam @ Aug 8th 2009 8:23PM
Tetris... ok so its not "overlooked" but damn it if it isnt addictive. really the only puzzle handheld that i can play non stop for HOURS.
I hope the DSi Store gets a downloadable version of it soon...
Gibbeynator @ Aug 8th 2009 8:26PM
My favorite overlooked puzzle game? Mario Picross for the original Gameboy.
omgwtfhax @ Aug 8th 2009 8:27PM
definitely tetris
sony boy @ Aug 8th 2009 8:29PM
Crush is most underrated puzzle psp game of all time.
Double J @ Aug 8th 2009 8:30PM
Although it's an old dog with no new tricks, Planet Puzzle League is still a great DS puzzle game that went overlooked. It even has voice chat for multiplayer with friends.
Shawn Handyside @ Aug 8th 2009 8:31PM
Meteos for DS!
Josh @ Aug 8th 2009 8:31PM
Polarium was pretty awesome.
Daniel Midgley @ Aug 8th 2009 8:32PM
I'm a big fan of the genre and there are many titles I'd like to mention, but I still think Meteos for the Nintendo DS was a massively under-appreciated puzzle game.
GenDV138 @ Aug 8th 2009 8:32PM
Tetris Attack on Game Boy
Deekman @ Aug 8th 2009 8:32PM
Pokemon Puzzle Challenge for GBC
So much fun
Mr Khan @ Aug 8th 2009 8:33PM
Not for handhelds, but i declare Wrecking Crew. Excellent little forgotten puzzler of the NES days.
megapenguinx @ Aug 8th 2009 8:34PM
Meteos, even if it wasn't that overlooked.
Will @ Aug 8th 2009 8:35PM
I haven't played many puzzle games recently; the main one has been Bejeweled 2 for the iPhone, but I would have to be lying to say that was 'overlooked' by anybody, EVER. Arkanoid DS was pretty fun, and I don't remember a whole lot of fanfare about that (then again, I was overseas, in a place where there wasn't much fanfare for anything at all).
cphpitts @ Aug 8th 2009 8:35PM
Dr Mario got me hooked on the while genre. Love that game.
sdawg @ Aug 8th 2009 8:35PM
Pokemon Puzzle League for the gameboy color, that game was the bomb back then.
mountpanic @ Aug 8th 2009 8:35PM
Gunpey is the game that deserves all the raves that the NOT OVERLOOKED Lumines gets. My Gunpey UMD lives in my PSP.
jetsaredim @ Aug 8th 2009 8:36PM
Not sure this qualifies as overlooked, but Professor Layton was decent.
BJFJOHN644 @ Aug 8th 2009 8:36PM
Advance Wars for the Gameboy. I loved that game.
Bradwart @ Aug 8th 2009 8:36PM
Arguably, given it's laughably small production run, Tetris DS is overlooked. Twelve different used game stores, all who claim they haven't seen copies in quite some time. Copies online are higher than MSRP already.
