First Guitar Hero: Van Halen trailer released, leaves us wanting for more
Sure, yes, we do want to play "Panama." And yes, fine, we would be all for jumping around to "Hot for Teacher." But as this thing stands (and as the trailer dictates above) we will absolutely be rocking out with some of the "biggest hits" from "one of the most legendary bands of all time" -- it's just going to be The Beatles instead.

"...we will absolutely be rocking out with some of the "biggest hits" from "one of the most legendary bands of all time" -- it's just going to be The Beatles instead."
Ohh, SNAP!!
Ridgecity @ Aug 9th 2009 7:07PM
To be realistic, the band doesn't have that many hits, as big as they were, the few hits are really really famous though, you hear jump not as a rock song but almost as a jingle. EVERYONE KNOWS IT. The are also famous for leeching the fans, and some band members have leaved for that very reason of being EXTREMELY too commercial and even a couple don't even appear on the game!
It wouldn't surprise me if Eddie VH talked about releasing a Guitar Hero Van Halen Vol.2 in the future, since he probably doesn't even know how this works.
If this is surprising to you they, you are not a Van Halen fan and know nothing about them. I love the music, but hate the bastards.
oolz @ Aug 9th 2009 7:43PM
Exactly, Van Halen is the worst fucking band to do a game like this around because they just don't have the catalog. They wouldn't have it if they included all the Haggar crap and they definitely don't have it without him. Van Halen is famous for a few great songs and EVH's tapping, that's it.

No it's not a rickroll... it's David Lee Roth allright.

You're a jerk. That was NOT a GH Van Halen trailer :(

"We will absolutely be rocking out with some of the "biggest hits" from "one of the most legendary bands of all time" -- it's just going to be The Beatles instead."
Awesome statement. Now that Semi-Charmed Life is coming to Rock Band also, I don't even need to rent Van Halen...
...But I will anyways.
Yeah TB @ Aug 9th 2009 7:55PM
Whoa whoa whoa. Semi Charmed Life is coming to RB? When was this confirmed?!
rkrocks123 @ Aug 9th 2009 10:36PM
Well, apparently Third Eye Blind's drummer said that they had to re-record some songs for a Rock Band 6-pack. Too lazy to find a link.
gib @ Aug 9th 2009 11:19PM
This is the rumored source from a twitter account (justBrad23) -- "Just blasted out 6 of the old hits for Rock Band. Flying back to LA for Year Long Disaster pre production. Should sleep well tonight."
Who knows if/when they would be added (or if justBrad23 is even a member of 3EB) but I'd buy their track pack on RB.
Ian @ Aug 10th 2009 10:31AM
Wow, this is awesome. 3eb is actually my favorite band (don't flame me, plz). I would buy this in a heartbeat, and they have a new CD coming out next week, so the timing coincides.

I don't think they heard you. They're swimming in money.
Shimrra @ Aug 9th 2009 5:43PM
Honestly GH Metallica pretty much spoiled me. This just looks like an upscaled version of GH 80s hits. This is going to hit the bargain bins faster than GH Aerosmith.
MystileArmor [Wiizer Sweatshop Bathwater and Sam Raimi Specialist] @ Aug 9th 2009 5:43PM
It's retarded that they got his kid playing the bass in the earlier shit, way to fuck up any accuracy to the whole thing as well, nevermind the fact the graphics look kind of shitty.
zepper @ Aug 9th 2009 5:45PM
I have no problem with only David vs. Sammy but Wolfgang instead of Michael Anthony? Come on! It was also interesting to see the shots at the start of the clip which showed a younger Eddie playing with his full grown son. Shouldn't Wolfgang be 3 or 4 years old at best in those shots during that era? 25 songs? Looks like I'll get this used from e-Bay six months from now.
Ridgecity @ Aug 9th 2009 7:10PM
dude it's just a game. it isn't meant to offer any scientific explanations, specially to rock fans that hate science.
Tim Parsons @ Aug 10th 2009 3:39PM
Wolfgang Van halen is the bands Bass player now, so of course he's in the Game. Micheal Anthony is in a Band with Sammy Hager called Chickenfoot
And Wolfgang is only 18, he was born in 1991, so actually he wasn't even born, Sammy Hager joined Van Halen in 1986

25 songs for $60? On a disk?
Isn't it generally 50 for $60, or around that?
This sounds terrible unless there are more than just Van Halen songs on it.
Durden @ Aug 9th 2009 6:06PM
It's 25 VH songs. There are other artists as well.
Young_Nastyman (a.k.a. Thor von Clemson) @ Aug 9th 2009 10:46PM
Yes, cause you buy Guitar Hero: Van Halen, for other artists
gib @ Aug 9th 2009 11:23PM
$60 to play the three songs you might actually like from VH, plus some extra filler like Stacy's Mom?
I think not.
ximena79 @ Aug 9th 2009 6:17PM
there better be a expert+ for guitar
Uncontrol @ Aug 9th 2009 6:18PM
this entire genre is going to be dead within a year or two and it's going to be activision's fault
jorojoserojas @ Aug 9th 2009 7:07PM
I dunno...I thought the same right around Guitar Hero Rocks The 80s, but here we are with, what, 5 major mainstream rhythm games coming out later this year?
TSD @ Aug 9th 2009 6:19PM
They seriously took out Micheal Anthony! WTF is that? We get his fat son instead?
Brendan H @ Aug 9th 2009 10:25PM
Yeah, Eddie wants his son in the band now. If you want Michael Anthony, you'll have to wait for "Gutiar Hero: Chickenfoot." Plus, you'll get Sammy Hagar.
ChuckJ @ Aug 9th 2009 6:20PM

What? Are you 50 or 60 and a woman? Rocking and Beatles dont belong in the same sentence. There is nothing rockish about the Beatles. Sure, for their era, they were IT. But who the hell drives around "rockin" to The Beatles"? Who jams Beatles' songs?
They are nothing but a big name, and while they helped influence music, their music/songs are awful.
So, Van Halen or The Beatles? Any self respecting man would say Van Halen. Period.
Uncontrol @ Aug 9th 2009 6:22PM
yeah MAN ugh i fuckin love bein a MAN lets be MANLY together MAN
Dishwasher @ Aug 9th 2009 6:32PM
I dont know what band you have been listening to but songs like ' get back ' ' revolution ' ' drive my car ' ' day tripper ' and especially ' sgt peppers lonley heart club ' and ' back in the ussr ' all very much rock.
Ridgecity @ Aug 9th 2009 7:13PM
I always considered David Lee Roth to be only half a man, if you know what I mean.
Matthew Perry @ Aug 9th 2009 7:26PM
I was going to upvote you for the first paragraph, but then you ruined it with the second and third paragraphs.
sam @ Aug 9th 2009 7:38PM
Whatever you say, bro
oolz @ Aug 9th 2009 7:47PM
Tell you what Chuck, get a hot woman in your car (She has to like you and not be related to you), pop in some Van Halen and see what it gets you. Find another one (lol, I know) and then pop in some Beatles and see how she reacts.
You'll soon learn that the real world is a lot different than that 1980's candy land you think you're living in.

"But who the hell drives around "rockin" to The Beatles"? Who jams Beatles' songs?"
*raises hand*
The Baron @ Aug 9th 2009 9:18PM
I would happily drive around with Halen at full volume. But I would also first ensure there were no women on any of the streets, let alone in the car.
Very much a dude phenomenon.
jynxycat @ Aug 9th 2009 9:45PM

LOL at your lack of musical taste.

Kdiggy @ Aug 9th 2009 11:18PM
But who the hell drives around "rockin" to The Beatles"?
I do. Rubber Soul - Let it be, are some of the greatest albums of all time.
Jrod @ Aug 10th 2009 6:47AM
I think the Beatles have the most absolutely BORING music. It's a step from Brian Eno to me.
the_pop @ Aug 10th 2009 8:58AM
The Beatles are pop and in no way at all rock. Their songs are dull and I cannot even imagine how boring they will be to play on Rock Band. Their music is much more suited to karaoke games as drums and guitar are going to be extremely dull to play.
Solace (Only on PSN) @ Aug 9th 2009 6:35PM
I cant wait to buy this for $20 when stores and trying to clear more Guitar Hero crap
Go VH! @ Aug 9th 2009 6:36PM
I'm really getting to the point where I don't even want Joystiq to report on music games of any kind from now on. Can we all please take a moment and remember that music taste is completely subjective? There's no such thing as good or bad music, just music that does or doesn't speak to you.
I get it, Joystiq. You and several other commenters turned your noses up at GH: Aerosmith and now GH: Van Halen. You're all very excited about Rock Band: Beatles. That's fine. But quite frankly, I love Aerosmith and Van Halen and couldn't care less about the Beatles. Is this an argument to persuade others to my point of view? No, of course not. I respect differing tastes. Please do the same.
