It figures. The moment we hear the rumor that Spielberg is interested in making a Halo movie, we learn about an intriguing fan film that we have to imagine would be in deep trouble if a studio project got off the ground. The Britain-based "Chastity Project" is looking to raise around £30,000 (roughly $49,000) to film a movie of the same name in the spring of next year.
They'd be a lot easier to write off as nut jobs if they hadn't already crafted some really cool props, like the Warthog-in-progress you can see above. Here's hoping the lawyers don't inevitably crush their dreams.
[Thanks, Dylan]

I just downvote bad grammar. It's a comma to signify the end of a sentence? Madness.

He's right. I would rather fund another Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, or Resident Evil movie instead of a Halo movie.

Tmac, clarify. Was that a bash on all video game movies, just Halo, or just those you mentioned? I know there was sarcasm, but I'm lost as to its' placement.

I'm saying as bad as those franchises are movie wise, I'd rather see another one then a Halo movie.

that's just retarded tmac, even if you hate Halo there's no way a Halo movie would be worse than any of those, dont kid yourself

If it has halo in it and chief in it, it's guaranteed to be just as bad as any of those.

I think this movie will turn out pretty good. The plot sounds solid, there's a dedicated fan base, and they have a talented crew; like Sean Farrow that works on the digital effects. He worked on movies like The Di Vinci Code, Angel and Demons, Batman Begins, and 1408.

So comments like "Or we could support good movies, lol," and "I will donate to cancel this project" aren't meant to completely burst this guy's bubble?
I will grant that these comments are in the minority so far and I hope they stay that way, because trying to crush some guy's hopes just serves to make you look like a major league douchebag.

Well, at least no one's being, like, Xbox Live kind of immature about it.

Nope, the lawyers smell blood. They're just busy preparing for the "Shadows of Lylat" case.

why spend all that money in making a half-decent movie rather than a cool game.

with that kind of money they wouldn't be able to make a decent short, much less a full fledged film.

well this is a sci-fi flick, and SFX aren't cheap. plus the only way they would ever pull this off is if it's a parody, then they in the clear legal-wise, and cheap SFX would be a must.

Cannibal: The Musical was made with only 50k and I'd consider it to be the best musical and one of the greatest comedies of our time.

Kevin Smith and "Clerks" are waving hello to you right now.
FX that look decent can be dirt cheap and can be done in your own living room. Welcome to the digital age. See:tons of other shorts. Hell, look at "Troops", a Star Wars fan film done in the mid 90s for way less than this, and tell me again that $50k and a computer can't go a long way with dedicated talented people behind it.

How about, instead of publicly executing these guys, they hire them? Seriously, if Spielberg IS making the Halo movie, why not get these guys to help design some props? I mean, if they can do that on a smaller budget, imagine what the can do on a Hollywood budget?

Why not bring back Neil Blomkamp who already did awesome Halo 3 marketing shorts?

Because Peter Jackson is currently raping Neill Blomkamp of all his creativity. First run was to take his famous short and turn it into a movie (District 9). I'm quite sure Peter has Neill shackled in his basement somwhere. He'll milk all the money he can out of this genius director before letting anyone else have a go at him.

I hope they had a script before building that Hog. I'll give them credit for going for it although even if completed how do you make money off of it unless you get the rights to make it. I guess 49 grand will be enough if they are shooting it on VHS!

"how do you make money off of it"
While I'm not a fan of their subject material, welcome to life outside of Hollywood blockbusters:MOST filmmakers never even have a CHANCE to make their investment back. They're doing it for...oh, what's that thing called....PASSION. They don't make art to make a buck. This will be far from art-and probably far form good-but they're doing it BECAUSE THEY WANT TO. You know how much money I've made from the student films I VOLUNTEERED my time to every year? Nothing. If I'm lucky, they'll feed me a few times. The short I sunk money into years ago? It COULD have made money, but it didn't and that wasn't the goal.
And yes, $50 grand will go a LONG way if your crew are volunteers, just look at some of the Star Trek fan films like Exeter, New Voyages, etc. VHS? Really? Haven't looked at the cost of HD digital cameras lately, I take it?

I think that the problem *may* have been, that there was a Warthog on the stage that was in danger of being *crushed* by a *dwarf*. Alright? That tended to understate the hugeness of the object.
