French retailer claims PS3 Slim is real, will be €100 cheaper

While the authenticity of the source's information can't be verified, it seems increasingly likely that the PS3 Slim is real. Considering Gamescom is the European equivalent of E3, we're certain Sony will be making some kind of big announcement -- but will it be a price-reduced PS3 Slim? Stay tuned for more.

I'll be getting a new one as well if it comes out over here for around $299. I don't get why people act surprised about a PS3 slim coming, we had a PS1 and PS2 slim...why wouldn't there be a PS3 slim?

I hope when they do release FF13/14 bundle, they would have the option of fat PS3 though. I think it actually looks a lot better. (No, I don't have PS3 yet. I still have a shit ton of PS1/2/DC/N64 and PC dated back to DOS era games that I have yet to finish up.)

No, that was a promotion that if you bring in a PS2, they will take 100 dollars off of the price of the PS3, and that ended a while ago.

The Gamestop promo in Spain was a joke, you were supposed to bring in a PS2 plus 5 games, but they would not tell you which games would qualify for the promo beforehand. Reports overe here suggest this was almost a scam designed to bring in cheap 2nd hand games and prey on the unsuspecting kid who would end up coughing up much more dough for his PS3.
That said, you can get today an 80Gb PS3 + Infamous for 299€ until august 31st at a big retailer, so yeah, something is happening definitely.

The announcement will be either slim down the size OR slim down the price. Not both. Just won't happen. It's all about keeping up the momentum and playing your right card at the right time.

Nowhere has this article suggested that the PS3-slim will have the same features as the PS3-phat. Dropping, oh, say, the Blu-Ray drive, would let them make the console slimmer in both size and price.
Of course, it would make a basically worthless PS3 for nearly everyone...

Yeah the Psone and PS2 slim both came out at a slightly higher price than the orignal fat verisons.
So you'll probably get a PS3 slim for $400 and the PS3 phat for $350(or whatever)
Not a slim for $350(at least for a while)
