If it wrote this story it would read: "Have you played Guitar Hero before? well there you go"

exactly, it's the same game with a few new modes, most of which are available in the "other game". The ones that game doesn't have, it left out for a reason.

I'm sure I'll be getting it since I have nearly every other GH game too. Atleast with this one, when the wife wants to play I won't have to quit the song I'm playing, she can just jump in and jump out without me having to quit the game.

It seems like the product IS getting improved. But it's really about 3 years too late.

Rock Band is my music rhythm platform and it would take something Herculean to change me over.

That's what I'm beginning to feel as well.

I gotta give at least some kudos to Neversoft for seeming to give a fuck about Guitar Hero this year with GH:M and now GH5, but cmon guys... too little too late.

If they keep going in this way, Rock Band will ALWAYS be on top.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and just say this:

So there's been 5 Guitar Hero games (a lot more technically but 5 for the sake of argument) and 2 Rock Band games. Not forgetting that Guitar Hero's 1 & 2 were made by the creators of Rock Band, I pose this question to all the people who are saying that these improvements are coming "too late": What if all of these features were available since GH1? What kind of things would you expect in the game's 5th installment?

Well while that's a whole 'nother argument altogether, if you accepted that deal, that's your own fault. Didn't you get the memo? GameStop rips people off. I should know, I used to work for the bastards.

Anyway, back to the question....

This was when I jumpted the musical submarine and just wanted to get rid of these festering guitars. $5 there, or $10 on ebay, minus fees, shipping, blah blah blah.

I'm going to stick to Samba de Amigo for my Dreamcast for my music fix.

The answer for most people here is, they wouldn't WANT a fifth installment.

Of course, most people here wants a fifth installment of ANYTHING. If it was up to them, there would only be one of every game and any additions would be DLC (which they would then complain "Why wasn't this available on the disc????")

Maybe Joystiq should have the same guy write all the articles about a single game.

It gets kind of confusing when every past GH5 article has been obsessing over the improvements and changes to the game, and then this one says "we didn't come away with our world totally rocked by innovation."

It seems to me that all the GH haters are probably Xbox 360/PS3 owners. For Wii rockers like myself, Guitar Hero games are only becoming more and more appealing. Maybe it's because we've been stiffed in the past, or maybe it's because Vicarious Visions take the console seriously, or maybe it's because Rock Band is a complete fucking joke on Wii (particularly in the UK, where Rock Band 2 is now six months delayed); but Guitar Hero 5 looks brilliant to me.

Guitar Hero 5 (and pretty much the whole series) is great news for wii players as it gives them more songs without having to change your SD card every 5 seconds. The features are actually on par with the 360/PS3 for a change.

Summary: If you want to know what this flavor-of-the-month release is like, just look at what Rock Band 2 was doing last year. Throw in some meaningless eye candy gimmicks and you're there.

Remember: any additions made by Neversoft are all stupid gimmicks.

If Harmonix makes these same additions later, though, it was never a stupid gimmick, but Harmonix just needed to MAKE IT BETTER.

Ok, I completely understand where all of the GH haters are coming from but (IMO) the tracks on GH are much harder. To those of us that enjoy a challenge, this is a plus. Even the easier tracks are more beastly on expert than a lot of Rock Bands... I've always felt that Guitar hero should have stuck with just guitars. Also, I think their hardware is better than RB's
Peace

Anybody that's in the competitive scene of the music genre will tell you that GH is better. That's not to say that RB isn't good or competitive though. There are different people trying to do different things. Usually the plastic guitarists/bassists will tell you that Guitar Hero is better (mostly GH3), because the songs are harder, and they need a challenge. There's still a whole bunch of people that are trying to FC Through the Fire and the Flames (only 8 people have done it so far) and Metallica's One. When they're done, they still have the insanely difficult Virtuoso and Dragonforce packs to go, which BTW, not as many people have FC'd.

Then again, there are the drummers and the singers that will tell you that Rock Band is better. I can understand the singing, since World Tour's singing engine is broken, and you can't ever get 100% in a song. The drums aren't too popular for World Tour, but with the addition of Expert+ in Smash Hits and GH Metallica, the drummers have a new thing coming to them. Still, RB has a solid drum scene (mainly due to Visions and the Metal Mayhem Pack).

Joystiq isn't the place to talk about the hardcore GH/RB scene though, since there's the share of people that want the genre to die, and there's the other group of people that think GH is "too hard" or has too many sequels. It's too full of casuals, IMO. Usually, when a new GH game comes out, EVERYONE in the hardcore scene is excited. To them, it's not "omg another gh game crap screw you activision i hate youuuu" like it is in Joystiq. It's a mad dash to see who can accomplish X goal first, whether it be getting 100% on all songs in guitar, drums, vocals, bass, or full band.

The casual buyer should just buy one game, whether it be RB or GH, and get on with their lives. You only need one of the games to have a party, The games depend on your taste in music. If you like crappy MTV music, just buy Rock Band, but if you're more into 80's rock and crap like that, get GH. Doesn't matter. The chicks will still play it.

I think if you're comparing Guitar Hero World Tour (and subsequent GH games), Rock Band and Guitar Hero are about in the same category of difficulty on guitar. There are some beasts in Rock Band; I'm not sure why many people give Guitar Hero the edge on hard songs, though they may be thinking Guitar Hero 3-era.

Though I do think some songs in Guitar Hero are a bit harder, as they have no Big Rock Endings, and so on.

The more I hear the more likely I am to pick this one up. I wasn't blown away by GHWTs setlist either but it turned out to be as much fun as RB and the rest. I also dig what they are doing with the backward compatibility of tracks (keep this trend going Acti). I don't take sides in the music game wars, both are good times.

Well, the modes are refreshing, but it's still too little. The setlist isn't great; when you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one. And they finally added back compat, though again: too little, too late.

Also, why the hell would they have Bob Dylans version of All Along The Watchtower? They should have went with the Hendrix version. I mean don't get me wrong, I love Bobby Dylan, but Jimi's version is like infinitely more rockingly better. What are they saving it for a Guitar Hero: Jimi Hendrix?

Hendrix is awesome, but his catalog is too limited to sustain a whole Guitar Hero (especially when 8 of his tracks are already available in World Tour). A large DLC package, on the other hand, would be kick-ass.
