Job listing claims Next Mortal Kombat will 'revolutionize online play'

The pieces of the puzzle that is the next Mortal Kombat continue to come together. WB Games Chicago (formerly Midway's Chicago studio, a.k.a. the MK team) has put out a help wanted sign for programmers looking to "revolutionize online play" with the series' next installment.

The posting mentions that WB is "looking to position Mortal Kombat as the 'gold standard' for network play," and that whoever lands the job will "push the boundaries of what is possible with online interaction," including "brand-new features that will revolutionize online play." Pretty big words. We're not exactly sure how WB will go about turning the online fighting game experience on its ear, but we'd love to hear your ideas in comments.

Honestly, I'd rather have Ultimate MK3 for download!!! I miss my Sega days sometimes... LOL!

I loved Ultimate MK3, it was way better than most if not all MK games.

MK Trilogy was more epic than UMK3! OMG revolutionize online play *Crosses fingers its similar to halo 2/3 matchmaking system. I hope u can record matches and uploads it directly to youtube.

Am i the ONLY person alive who thought the N64 version of Mortal Kombat 4 was the best MK game ever?

Best game ever? Yeah, you're probably the only one.

I will say it was way underrated though. I've never done anything quite as awesome as beat a man to death with his own legs.

This. I hate when the region lock stuff on the Xbox 360 Marketplace. Isn't my money worthy enough?!

I didn't even know it came out for N64 but if you want to put it that way then Mk gold was the best ever.

I've played just about every MK there is and here's my top 3:

1. UMK3 (SNES)
2. MK Deadly Alliance (PS2)
3. MK4 (PS1)

I'd like a new Shaolin Monks with co-op multiplayer.

I thought MK II was the best MK ever...but MK 4 was pretty damn good, too.

A 32 player battle royal?

Yeah, do that, but make it like powertone! This generation needs a powerstone sequel/ripoff

Sadly, I have to admit that until now I completely forgot I even had Brawl.
It's not that it's a bad game.

It's that well, when playing online LIVE kicks seven(teen) shades of sh*t out of the best Wii Connect can offer.

Not like it's very hard to, since every online game is just fighting some other person in regular combat. Makes me wonder why people need it in every game.

I can think of many ways to revolutionize online play, but I'm sure it would take a while.

Maybe when scorpion throws his spear at you it comes through your tv.

Those are pretty big words they are putting out.

Do you get to actually FINISH your friends when they lose?

All I want from my MK is a more fluid fighting game. Enough of that hanging in the air crap.

A lobby/dojo area where you can walk up to anyone in the area and challenge to kombat. If they accept the fight starts then and there in the lobby/dojo with everyone else able to spectate. The winner can then challenge or be challenged by another player in the lobby.

That sounds like an amazing idea, but on a console, and without EVERYONE having fios, I doubt the lag would be anything manageable.

Well it is at least 2 years away, so there's plenty of time to roll out broadband to the next set of customers.

Doubtful. This is something that could easily be done, but only if they put up their own servers. I don't think it would be allowed, nor would it be possible, to get XBL and PSN to interoperate (to speak nothing of WFC and its needless complications)

That certainly would be revolutionary, and I would like this to happen!

No, I have good memories o MK II. I don't want them ruining it by making it like the crappy modern/3D incarnations of Mortal Kombat.

I would be happy if they just give me MK Trilogy with online play.

I say don't look too far into it.

Personally they just need to re-release Mortal kombat three trilogy, so I can stomp the hell out of EVERYONE.

But if they really want to "revolutionize" this game and such, they need to release Mortal Kombat as an AO rated game. Yeah they can't get some publicity, yeah its going to turn heads, but that MK's history, and thats what it should do. They shouldn't worry about so much online play, yes it needs to be there, but they need to worry about the damn game it self, MK vs DC was garbage. Also MK is a 2d not 3d, so it would be nice if they quit that garbage as well.
