Rumor: Two new playable races in next World of Warcraft expansion

What's Blizzard up to, besides not finishing StarCraft 2? According to a leak from an anonymous source to our bunkmates at WoW.com, the developer is working on the next World of Warcraft expansion, Cataclysm, which will include two new playable races! Both of these have been previously hinted to via in-game Halloween masks.

On the Horde (Citrus Cherry Red, in terms of Mountain Dew Game Fuel) side, players will be able to create Goblin characters. On the Alliance (Wild Fruit Blue) side, the new playable race is the Worgen (which is like a werewolf, but with a more Swedish-sounding name). We'd love to see how Blizzard reconciles the "good guy" Alliance with a creature that is "thoroughly evil, delighting in torturing and devouring intelligent creatures."

These were both the two rumored races for the first expansion pack, and I remember there being a number of reasons why they would never be made into playable races. One being that the goblins are neutral in the fight between horde and alliance, and having them pick one side would screw up some of the stuff in the game.

Well with the next expansion rumored to be called Cataclysm, maybe something so huge happens that their allegiance is forced to the Horde. As far as the Worgen are concerned, people keep referring to the Greymane Wall opening....

Maybe this is part of the expansion...as a goblin you start neutral and as you complete quests become friendly or unfriendly to either the horde or alliance. Sounds like an interesting progression of the game/story/life(lol).

or maybe not all goblins will join the horde, the Steamwheedle cartel will probably remain neutral

So the alliance get werewolves and horde get.....goblins?

I mean, the blood elves were way cooler than draenei, but by no means were they as shitty as goblins are.

Look at it this way tmac, it's all come full circle. The goblins are the Horde's laughing stock of a race, while the Alliance has the Draenei.

Alliance's laughing stock are gnomes, which are basically goblins without the explosive streak.

So, alliance got mustachioed midgets and four years later horde gets green midgets with pointy ears.

One of my friends went in detail how he thinks the next expansion will open up an area to some closed off Werewolf place near the undead.
Like this theory went on for hours, included the mere-folks in the city at the bottom of the Cataclysm and this werewolf area will have a port to get a ship to the cataclysm area in the middle.
His theory made sense (as far as I could tell) and I let him go on cos I can go on a fair bit with theory's of how Lost will end.
I'll pass this onto him, he'll probably be quite happy.

Maybe the alliance would want the worgen because the alliance is in fact evil...

Warring on people because they aren't as pretty as you is hardly the noble thing to do.

Well, they do post a summary on joystiq and it was posted in massively.

It doesn't matter, this is an *old* story. And as pointed out, it's been posted here before.

Too bad I'm not a fan of WoW cause I always choose alliance characters when I play [I do free trials alot].

But what MAY sway me would be if its an expansion or just an update.

Yay! More races! Same old BORING classes! For the love of god add some more classes and make them specific to races (ie WAR)

But then the 12 Year olds would throw a temper tantrum

World of Starcraft, please.

And add LAN Support...

Finish Diablo 3 first as well

IMO, these races (Goblin at least, never done any research on Worgen) should be neutral so that you can choose your own path (Horde or Alliance).
And yeh, they really should include the Pandarens. They're awesome!

Since the Activision merge, Blizzard has been destroying their lore and going back on promises at an exponential rate.

For those who don't play WoW.

A while ago a list came out (affectionately called "The List" by most). In the list there was a bunch of info that listed many possible expansion info, such as names of zones, level reqs for each zone, starting zones for new races, etc. Most of this information has come true, albeit with some of the names changed. As for future expansions, well that could be interesting down the road.

all of the "how i found this" stories are all different, but the list is always the same.

I don't get it. Doesn't it take a while to level up a character in MMOs? I can't see starting over just to look a little different.

it's a lot more than that, it's the racial specific abilities that can make a big difference in pvp, the faction rep, the new quests and areas, and sure the whole new look does make a big difference. Also it gets easier to level in WoW all the time, they've lowered so much stuff multiple times, from how much xp you need to what level you can get an epic mount at, and then there's the chances of a hero class that would start you out at lvl 55 like the Death Knights

Oh yeah. I forgot that they are planning on doing a series of Hero classes.

I burned out on WoW towards the beginning of the WotLK content, after having played for half a year.

I'll probably start playing again around the time of the next expansion.
