Rumor: Two new playable races in next World of Warcraft expansion

On the Horde (Citrus Cherry Red, in terms of Mountain Dew Game Fuel) side, players will be able to create Goblin characters. On the Alliance (Wild Fruit Blue) side, the new playable race is the Worgen (which is like a werewolf, but with a more Swedish-sounding name). We'd love to see how Blizzard reconciles the "good guy" Alliance with a creature that is "thoroughly evil, delighting in torturing and devouring intelligent creatures."

So you get to choose between Shrek and Fiona or two furries. ;)
Stacky @ Aug 10th 2009 3:08PM
Yay!
John @ Aug 10th 2009 3:38PM
Almost as funny as when that same joke was posted last month on the wow board...
mezzaninex @ Aug 10th 2009 3:50PM
These were the exact words that went through my head, I was just about to post that.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Aug 10th 2009 4:51PM
@John
I feel your pain.
chispito @ Aug 10th 2009 11:49PM
@John,
Sorry, I didn't have the RSS feed on my smartphone. So you'll have to excuse me for finding this funny and voting him up.
CJC @ Aug 10th 2009 3:08PM
Now furries will no longer have to choose between Second Life and WoW!
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Aug 10th 2009 3:10PM
This would probably be enough to make me go back to WoW after having been away from it for about a year. Say what you will, but nothing can beat having my own goblin or worgen.
I live a very promising life, as you can see.
Help me! @ Aug 10th 2009 3:41PM
except a PANDAREN
WHY BLIZZARD, WHY DO YOU NOT INCLUDE THE PANDARENS
JUST MAKE THEM CHINESE AND TAKE OUT THE REFERENCES TO JAPAN
franktinsley @ Aug 10th 2009 3:11PM
I will never understand the attraction people have to avatars like those in WoW. Why do people want to look so ugly and evil? Are they projecting their own self hatred?
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Aug 10th 2009 3:13PM
Yes. That's exactly why.
It has nothing to do with the lore of the series and people having a connection with the story. It's because they hate themselves.

Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 10th 2009 3:18PM
Yeah. My Purple, grey-haired, 8 ft. tall, Night Elf Hunter is a reflection of how I'm really feeling. On the inside.
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 10th 2009 3:12PM
Awesome. I am all about rolling a Worgen. Perhaps a Hunter? Oh, the irony....
gib @ Aug 10th 2009 3:58PM
Worgen - now available at Ikea near you.
Bananarama @ Aug 10th 2009 3:13PM
These were both the two rumored races for the first expansion pack, and I remember there being a number of reasons why they would never be made into playable races. One being that the goblins are neutral in the fight between horde and alliance, and having them pick one side would screw up some of the stuff in the game.
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 10th 2009 3:16PM
Well with the next expansion rumored to be called Cataclysm, maybe something so huge happens that their allegiance is forced to the Horde. As far as the Worgen are concerned, people keep referring to the Greymane Wall opening....
mjohn2 @ Aug 10th 2009 3:21PM
@bananarama
Maybe this is part of the expansion...as a goblin you start neutral and as you complete quests become friendly or unfriendly to either the horde or alliance. Sounds like an interesting progression of the game/story/life(lol).
Riley @ Aug 10th 2009 10:51PM
or maybe not all goblins will join the horde, the Steamwheedle cartel will probably remain neutral
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 10th 2009 3:17PM
So the alliance get werewolves and horde get.....goblins?
I mean, the blood elves were way cooler than draenei, but by no means were they as shitty as goblins are.
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 10th 2009 3:20PM
Look at it this way tmac, it's all come full circle. The goblins are the Horde's laughing stock of a race, while the Alliance has the Draenei.
snowleopard233 @ Aug 10th 2009 3:54PM
Respect the waggle, man.
Alliance's laughing stock are gnomes, which are basically goblins without the explosive streak.
So, alliance got mustachioed midgets and four years later horde gets green midgets with pointy ears.
seifer @ Aug 10th 2009 5:27PM
@snowleopard233: Clearly, you have never seen a gnome engineer at work.
captainprotonx @ Aug 10th 2009 3:20PM
That'll do, Donkey. That'll do.
snarfoogle @ Aug 10th 2009 3:21PM
Worgen? You kidn me?
Where are the PANDAREN, Blizz? *note i don't play wow
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 10th 2009 3:23PM
Good call there. The Pandaren would also be awesome.
Traceur_Ryuk (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Aug 10th 2009 3:53PM
Hmm...you're not fooling anyone. I can smell the World of warcraft coming off of you. (It has a very unique scent)
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 10th 2009 3:22PM
Also, does the goblin mask in that picture remind anyone else of the Clown in the Spawn movie?
Jrinswand @ Aug 10th 2009 5:43PM
Please don't make me think about that trainwreck of a movie.
Reinard @ Aug 10th 2009 3:35PM
Oh, for the love of fuck, not Joystiq too.
deanb @ Aug 10th 2009 3:38PM
One of my friends went in detail how he thinks the next expansion will open up an area to some closed off Werewolf place near the undead.
Like this theory went on for hours, included the mere-folks in the city at the bottom of the Cataclysm and this werewolf area will have a port to get a ship to the cataclysm area in the middle.
His theory made sense (as far as I could tell) and I let him go on cos I can go on a fair bit with theory's of how Lost will end.
I'll pass this onto him, he'll probably be quite happy.
John @ Aug 10th 2009 3:40PM
Maybe the alliance would want the worgen because the alliance is in fact evil...
Warring on people because they aren't as pretty as you is hardly the noble thing to do.
Warlock @ Aug 10th 2009 3:42PM
Wow, old story... this was mentioned almost a month ago...
The Dark Wayne @ Aug 10th 2009 4:19PM
not everyone vists WoW.com guy with Arthas avatar
John @ Aug 10th 2009 4:27PM
Well, they do post a summary on joystiq and it was posted in massively.
Warlock @ Aug 11th 2009 10:06AM
It doesn't matter, this is an *old* story. And as pointed out, it's been posted here before.
Roger @ Aug 10th 2009 3:45PM
Too bad I'm not a fan of WoW cause I always choose alliance characters when I play [I do free trials alot].
But what MAY sway me would be if its an expansion or just an update.
Mystic @ Aug 10th 2009 3:52PM
Yay! More races! Same old BORING classes! For the love of god add some more classes and make them specific to races (ie WAR)
John @ Aug 10th 2009 3:55PM
But then the 12 Year olds would throw a temper tantrum
Travis @ Aug 10th 2009 3:52PM
World of Starcraft, please.
Dante G @ Aug 10th 2009 5:36PM
Finish Starcraft 2 fisrt, please...
And add LAN Support...
silverwolf761 @ Aug 10th 2009 6:20PM
Finish Diablo 3 first as well
tobz1000 @ Aug 10th 2009 4:00PM
Maybe dancing furries everywhere will finally get my friends off this game and down the pub again...
nes.freak2012 @ Aug 10th 2009 4:13PM
IMO, these races (Goblin at least, never done any research on Worgen) should be neutral so that you can choose your own path (Horde or Alliance).
And yeh, they really should include the Pandarens. They're awesome!
The Dark Wayne @ Aug 10th 2009 4:19PM
Wow, The List really is true. That kinda blows my mind
Jrinswand @ Aug 10th 2009 5:47PM
The List?
Jrinswand @ Aug 10th 2009 5:48PM
Nevermind. It is explained a few posts down. :P
Anthology @ Aug 10th 2009 4:29PM
Ugh.
It better not happen.
Since the Activision merge, Blizzard has been destroying their lore and going back on promises at an exponential rate.
knor @ Aug 10th 2009 4:42PM
For those who don't play WoW.
A while ago a list came out (affectionately called "The List" by most). In the list there was a bunch of info that listed many possible expansion info, such as names of zones, level reqs for each zone, starting zones for new races, etc. Most of this information has come true, albeit with some of the names changed. As for future expansions, well that could be interesting down the road.
all of the "how i found this" stories are all different, but the list is always the same.

The Dark Wayne @ Aug 10th 2009 5:04PM
thanks i was trying to find my link for it, pretty interesting that it's so far turning out to be true
Jacksons @ Aug 10th 2009 4:43PM
I don't get it. Doesn't it take a while to level up a character in MMOs? I can't see starting over just to look a little different.
