This looks to be quite the deal for sports fans. Sports Illustrated is offering a free copy of Madden 10 (on the platform of your choice) with every paid subscription. In addition to getting to getting 28 issues of Sports Illustrated, the $49 bundle includes a documentary DVD, "The Road to Canton" and the aforementioned copy of Madden. The bundle is actually cheaper than buying a standalone copy of Madden 10 at retail! With the money saved, you can afford all those crazy DLC packs EA is pimping in this year's edition ... almost.
If you do take advantage of the deal, make sure you watch out for the auto-renewal option. You'll have to cancel your subscription before it ends, or SI will charge you for another year when your subscription ends.
[Thanks, Colin M.!]

Still doesn't justify that Madden games should be downloadable at this point

they MIGHT try that a few years down the road....but if they do TRUST they will nickel and dime it...to the point where you get the basics only for like $40 and have to pay an Extra $20 for Franchises, created players, etc...

Hell, Chris... Isn't Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 like that already? I can't believe all the micro transactions one can do for that game, just to get a certain shirt or ball.
I hope this doesn't happen to the Madden franchise, though I'm not holding my breath.

Watch out guys, the fine print says if you cancel the subscription you are charged for the game and DVD. It also auto renews. So you are really just delaying payment for the game.

No, it says you won't get a refund unless you return the game. In effect you can just sign up, receive the game, and then cancel the subscription, thus giving you a copy of Madden for $49.

Jeff - what he's saying is that you subscribe to SI, KEEP the subscription (that's the whole point of subscribing, right?) until your last issue, then cancel instead of renewing for a second year. Thus, there's nothing to refund, and no reason to return the game.
This is to stop people from subscribing, getting the game, then immediately canceling their subscription and getting their money back while still keeping Madden.

Confirming - called the 800 number, already a SI subscriber - I was able to tack on the renewal for 49.00 - to my CC. Game will arrive 6-8 weeks.

Vaaaannnn Daaaammmmmeee, that's too long for a person like me to wait for Madden when the game comes out (well, it is "out" as I know of some who already have it) this Friday. I'm waiting so I can trade in my NCAA 10 which is suddenly too breakneck to play after playing tons of the retail version Madden 10 at Gamestop and killing the demo at home. I prefer the slower, more methodical Madden 10.

@TreyIM
You could always keep the reciept from the place you bought Madden from and return the copy that arrives in 6-8 weeks. You could also just return this new copy to Wal-Mart or Best Buy without a reciept and get store credit. This would effectively let you pick up the next game you wanted to buy. It's just a few ideas if you like this deal but don't want to wait 6-8 weeks.

Too Bad. Micro Center was running a promotion this past weekend for Pre-Ordering and getting the game for $35. Makes it more stomachable.

I'm pretty positive you have to pay in full first to get the promo. Then if you cancel, it's another $26.
The mags are toilet paper to me. I'm not paying nearly $80 for a football game.

I went ahead and ordered this last week. I called today and wanted to find out when I could expect to get the game. The rep told me that they would be hopefully shipping out on 08/17/09. I was also able to de-activate the auto renewal of the subscription. He said I will get a notice asking if I would like to renew in February. Not a bad deal in my opinion. I think I will but the game at a local stroe so I have it right away and return the SI game to the store.

I considered this offer as I wanted to subscribe to SI anyway....
Alas...if you price shop on the web....you can get an entire year of SI for $ 38.95 and 6 months for $ 19.95..........
So if you calculate the real world prices = Madden (60$) + 6 Month Subscription (20$) = 80$ actual value....(who cares about the DVD)......

This sounds like a nice deal...only problem is when you go on the S.I. site to place a order, the picture for Madden 10 looks fishy. If you want PS3 version, it doesnt have the playstation name across the game. If you want 360 version, there is no "Xbox 360" name written on the top of the game...get what I mean? Well I dont tihnk I can return it for store credit anymore....looks like EA made sure not to let us return it. Anyone actually got the game yet? please reply as I know thousands of you are wondering this as well!

This seems like a great deal and Im seriously interested. I could care less about the mags but the game is what i want. Are there any kickers I should be aware of. I know about the auto-subscription thing. Can I sign up for this, get the game, get my 28 weeks of SI, then cancel my subscription?
What is this $26 cancellation fee? I dont see anything on the site about it.

I'm an attorney that has sued SI for consumer fraud in relation to the Madden Offer. I have asserted claims the the offer was a rip off, which I believe it was. If you live in New Jersey and accepted the offer please call me. I need 60 seconds to talk with you, or you can email me if you prefer. You would be entitled to compensation.Thank you.
