We'd love to drop a few excerpts from the CAGcast clip into this post, but we couldn't do so without being wildly offensive (to even ourselves!). Hit the break and check out the full 10 minute example of why civility is merely a facade we parade around in our mask-filled society.
A great example of the sterling behavior on Xbox Live

We'll admit it -- we spend a lot of time on Xbox Live. Between the weekly teabag quota we're tied to and practicing heavy breathing into microphones, we're required to jump on the service rather often and let all those anonymous folks out there know the truth. Lucky for us, CheapAssGamer podcast host Wombat has recorded a smattering of vitriol-filled messages from our favorite online locale -- messages he received from people he didn't know after being the "featured gamer" on Xbox.com.

*Sigh* *Lamentations*
Why do people do that. Some of those messages seem blindly hateful. Ans most immature.

Seems like it's mostly Americans though that bring down the XBL community.

@Steve: everything is America's fault right? Do you have some numbers behind that? At least you don't see us going soccer fan and throwing urine bombs on people, or killing fans of the winning team on a regular basis.

These people just want attention. I feel like I'm the only one here who gets this.
Some people are genuinely mean, but most of these are clearly people trying to be funny or outrageous. I'm not saying that it is right or that it makes sense, but that's what it is. By reading their gamertags and playing their messages, these guys are only perpetuating the type of rude behavior they hate so much.
Pay attention. The ONLY way to reduce flaming/flamebait on Live, on the Internet, or anywhere is to IGNORE it. Anything else is fuel for the fire.

Actually, by reading their gamertags and playing their messages, these guys are showing the world that they are dickheads.
Another way to reduce flaming/flamebait on Live is to summon the ban hammer.

I have to firmly agree with what they said when they mentioned, "it's not the games, it's not the technology, it's the people ruining online gaming". That's one of the biggest reasons I never play anything online, unless it's with friends. Which is a damn shame, because I've met some really nice people online, but it's just not worth dealing with the scum.

People in general are assholes. Grant them some degree of anonymity - whether it's on XBL, the internet, or even in a car on the freeway - and they're even bigger assholes.

You guys are too soft. Sticks and stones break bones, but you shouldn't throw a hissy fit because some adolescent is shooting his mouth off while your trying to kill him with an M16 and a grenade launcher.

If you're a featured gamer, just have MS put on there, "He/she knows he/she is gay, so you won't need to tell them. And they F... themselves daily." Guess you wouldn't get any messages...

Wow, they are not just 13 year olds, and I'm 21, so screw that kid who made fun of him for being 20 playing xbox. And all of those people should be banned.

This is the biggest reason why Xbox sucks, and always will. This is horrible and I am glad this guy can take it in stride because no one should have to suffer message board like crap like that on a paid for service. This is why Live should be free, because if no one is paying for the service MS could ban these morons and fast but since they paid for it they have a "right" to access theservice. I am going to try not to think about this much because it really makes me want to never play my 360, it really degrades the whole experience. All of those who act like this please just go die somewhere.

I remember sending this guy a message about I'm barely losing to him in Mass Effect gamerscore. Hope he didn't think I was trying to attack him or anything, like these guys....

I'd like to see a new ad campaign on Xbox Live. "You are NOT anonymous." What seems to ruin most community gaming experiences is the fact that everyone assumes that there will be no repercussions from their actions. If there was a way for the community to police itself with help from Microsoft it would go a long way towards eliminating a lot these problems.

Well...I guess this is a lesson for us in what stereotyping is all about. Being of the "lowest common" ranks as an Xbox360 owner, I am glad we got the adult, higher-class-than-us, richer-than-us, gay PS3 fan-boy's opinion. If you weren't commenting in the 360 news area, what would we do for guidance? Perhaps we should bow down as your excellency graces us with the odor of your passing underpants (since PS3 poop obviously doesn't stink). Without you, who would provide for us seemingly pointless posts regarding our epic fail of owning a 360?
Thank you for helping us see the true power of your opinions (which amounts to nothing). We humbly live in your arrogant shadow. Really though...go troll some place else. The PS3 news area might be a good, relevant, start.
BTW - You don't have to be so defensive about your sexual orientation. So get over it already. No one cares about what you do in private.
