Duke Nukem 3D has found another revenue stream, this time on the iPhone as the seminal FPS shoots onto the App Store for $2.99 -- as part of a "one day special launch sale." We're not sure what the normal price would be, but with Civilization Revolution launching yesterday at $4.99, Duke's adventure from 13 years ago had better not ask for much more.
AppGamer notes that initial feedback on the title has been positive, though there's no "lite" version to test out. The game has the "thumb-stick style controls," but also comes with "slider-style controls." If you've already played this on your morning commute, be sure to share your opinion in the comments below!
[Thanks, Chris]

One of my friends bought the game last night and I tried it out. It looks fantastic...just like Duke 3D on the PC 40 years ago. However, it controls like DOG DOO.
In most iPhone games you just have to slide your finger around to move your character, but in this game you have to tap in the little circle to move Duke around. It's all very awkward and makes the game unplayable.
The good news is according to the forums on Touch Arcade, their working on a patch to make this play more like Wolf3D (which is still the only game to get it right).
I might still get this if the controls are ironed out. I loves me some Duke...

The controls are fine. You can pick between digital (slide) and analog (stick) controls. I prefer the analog, it feels more precise.

downloaded the game and its alright.
the analog controls stink, the d-pad option is better but i still think the character moves way to fast. other then that its a pretty cool game one thing i liked is that you can move the action buttons anywhere on the screen.

Don't buy don't buy for the love of god don't buy. The controls are broken straight up. I'm half convinced it's a bug because it is literally unplayble. There's no way the playtesters tried out the analog controls and thought "Nailed it!".

WARNING: To all 1G iPod Touch users, they've screwed us over. If you try to install, it says 'unable to install on THIS iPod Touch, because this app needs a microphone'. I wondered when crap like this would start.

What you talking about willis
my ipod touch has no mic and it installed fine
on the other hand the control scheme sucks and the other actions are all clustered
Shooters on the iphone seem to be good(wolf 3D) provided you remove the need for a Z axis(vertical)
left right back and forth are all there should be

You probably have a second generation Touch, that has a mic as an accessory. Apple wants 1G guys to buy new Touches, so they've started limiting the apps.
But I refuse to buy another iPod after Apple's behavior towards owners-charging for software updates, declaring it obsolete, etc. I'll go with a Walkman X-Series or Zune HD instead.
