IGN's Nintendo Minute recently posed a question to Nintendo VP of corporate affairs Denise Kaigler about sales of the DSi. IGN was under the impression that the handheld had a slow start, but Kaigler was quick to lay the smack down. "Sorry, but I'm going to have to strongly disagree with your premise," she said, pointing to NPD figures that show the DSi's first three months in the US moved more units than the original DS Phat, DS Lite and Wii did in the same period of time.
During its initial three months of availability, the DSi has unloaded more than 1.7 million units onto consumers. Compare that to the figures for the first three months of the DS Phat (1.38 million) and the DS Lite (1.07 million) and it's pretty clear who the winner is. Despite the fact that the DSi ($169.99) is more expensive than the DS Phat ($149.99) and DS Lite ($129.99) when they launched, consumers have been in favor of the Facebook-compatible handheld.
The DSi even managed to best Nintendo's money-printing Wii in its first three months gracing store shelves, as the Wii debuted with 1.52 million units sold. As impressive as that may be, we're pretty sure had launch supplies been greater, the Wii would've easily trumped the DSi's figures.

Yesterday was a long night of binge drinking, I don't think all my neurons are firing correctly yet. Damn you booze.

Haha yeah, but it's so much fun. Oh well, a night of drinking was worth it to make one jackass comment. :)

So I'm going to buy one of these bad boys solely for Scribblenauts (though I'll also look into Professor Layton and Drawn to Life), but should I really get this over the plain DS?

Well... the only advantage of the Lite over the DSi is the GBA port, so, if you already have a GBA or a Micro, then go for the DSi.
The DSi has bigger screens, one more level of brightness, a volume rocker (better than the slider), you can adjust the brightness while in game, the speakers are definitely better, the buttons are clickly now, the matte finish feels better, then you have the cameras with Facebook support, DSiWare...
Definitely a better purchase if this is your first DS system.

One way to think of it is an investment in the future of DSi-only software (because it sure isn't worth it now).
Alternatively, imagine the new version of the Game Boy Camera is available for $50, but the only way you can get it is a pack in with a DS. Also, it was a browser.

Does the DS really have that much longer of a battery life?

Yeeahh, I ended up selling my DSi(brand new) last week. $170 just isn't worth the added features. I still got my old DS Phat so I'm good. :D

I still could give a fuck about Facebook.
I have a DS lite I dont see the point in getting a DSi

Don't get one. It's not worth it. The camera is nice, but crappy quality. The voice recording is pretty good quality, but the max time is 10 seconds. You can make ringtones I figure though.
The DSiWare sucks. Nothing good really. I traded in my DS Lite for a DSi and ended up selling it in less than a week. Still have my DS Phat though.

How many hardware tweaks are allowed before it starts becoming a new platform? The DSi could have been the DS2, and had more power, but Nintendo (and Sony, with the PSP Go) had to stop halfway. Why, Nintendo? You would make just as much, if not more, money. I, for example, am afraid to keep buying incremental expanses on current hardware because with my luck, I'll buy one, then the DS2 will come out. Plus, I can't justify tiny tweaks totaling to more than what they are worth. I wish I could just mod my DS, ala' PC.
I think I just answered my own question.

Just because something has a lot of support doesn't mean it's good.

i think the next two years of Nintendo would be more tough work wise and if it works harder then it will easily grab the market by its great achievements like it has done in the past near 2001.................

I'm still not onboard myself, but hey, different strokes. Also, it's always a delight to read about IGN getting served.
