What is Lampard doing taking centre-stage? Americans aren't going to recognise him.
David Beckham would have made much more sense, even if the 'L.A. Riot Squad' hate him.

I'm American and I think Lampard's a pretty damned good midfielder. But maybe I'm the exception to the rule.

@Ben
Yeah, David Beckham in the middle with the AC Milan jersey on.
The "L.A. Riot Squad" are gonna be pissed if EA puts Beckham like that on the cover. Hahahaha!

Beckham would be way too expensive. If they are going to pay that much money they might as well call it David Beckham Soccer 10 like with Tiger Woods.

Oh, I was under the impression that there was some effect on the photographs (assuming they are photographs - they may well be paintings), it's just that his face shape seems to have been altered somehow as well.

Good eye... the faces are shoped into the bodies. Just look this cover for other regions:

Gahh... Why Cuauhtemoc Blanco? Yes, I'm mexican and he is a mexican player, but he sucks, plus he is a very annoying person.
Also... tomorrow, Mexico vs USA.

I can't wait for the game tomorrow! Anyway, if Joystiq knew anything about soccer, they'd know that Chivas are the best Mexican team.

I hate him too, he is way over rated. He's a flopper, always throwing himself for every little tackle.

Well perhaps he makes all of that stuff but he IS a good veteran player. And well chivas has a very wide fan-base in Mexico, also the game sell“s very well every year in here.

He's there because he's mexican and because he took his team to the MLS final. He probably not going to charge as much as Dos Santos or Marquez, and has the same impact and even more recognition on both leagues.
Also mention the mexican league is famous for overpricing the players while they have special deal with the mexican tv channels and dont charge them anything for tons of promotional stuff, while other brands, even espn and fox pay as much as the italian league charges. They can't even do interviews or appeara in a tv show outside of the 2 channels, because they have that "deal".

That just shows how little you know about football Fernando, Blanco is one of the best strikers Mexico has known.
He's very talented and even he's a bit old now, he still has the touch and the courage to decide a match.
You like it or not, he's a true idol and he has all my respect.

Lampard is a strange choice. Ronaldo, Messi, Rooney, Kaka, Henry, even Terry would have been more recognizable in America and more of a fitting choice for a cover. And dont tell me they couldnt even afford Donovan.

Might have something to do with Chelsea trying to make a name for themselves in the US.
Much like Man U are capitalising on their brand by expanding into Asia and playing their pre-season matches over there, Chelsea have played their pre-season matches over in the US for at least the last 2 years (Chelsea vs either AC or Inter broke some sort of US attendance record I believe).

Soccer is more popular in america than most people think. Its not terribly popular but its popular enough to have its own digital cable station and have Henry be in a Gillette commercial with Tiger Woods. The World Cup also got good ratings when it was on. Americans care a lot more about foreign teams than the MLS though, as shown when Barcelona played LA Galaxy and almost everyone in the stands had a Barcelona jersey instead of their own teams.

@ChromeAlchemist: As I said elsewhere, there are a lot of sports called "football" and what gets called "football" without anything before or after it depends on what game is most popular in a region. Gridiron football is more popular in the US and (to a lesser extent) Canada, so it's just "football" here. And the term "soccer" originates in England as shorthand for association football, so if they (and everyone else) would stop being such a bunch of crybabies about North Americans using that term, the world would be a lot better off.
