A recent Warner Bros. press release has revealed the cuteified Lord of the Rings RPG Aragorn's Quest will follow the example of a number of big-name titles, moving from its inital launch window of fall 2009 into spring 2010. Based on the screenshots we've seen from the game, we're guessing they accidentally used up all the color in the world, and are now scrambling to find new sources of brilliant hues.
We worried that this adorable adventure might get swept away in the burgeoning first quarter of next year, as it's set to face off with some extremely hyped, sometimes jetpack-equipped giants. However, it's filling the somewhat uninhabited niche of "family-friendly co-op RPGs set in a colorful, pint-sized reimagination of a historically bleak and robust fantasy world," so, you know. It might do okay.

Not the same impact as a Tauren mounting Aragon with Legolas being forced to watch.

Uh, it looks nothing like WoW. Looks more like Kingdoms Heart with Aragorn's head shopped onto the main guy.

Yeah, but the pizza isn't at war with itself. The slices all move together in one cheesy, gooey, crusty, mouth-watering...

Good. I'd hate to think this turd might do well.
Please, Activision? Move Singularity up to this year again? It's too crowded where it is!
EA, the same goes for Mass Effect 2.

There's already 2 huge Bioware-style RPGs this year--Alpha Protocol and Dragon Age. I think we can wait for Mass Effect 2.

Brutally bad art direction. It makes me a little queasy. It's like the super weak mid-point between WoW and Fable. All of the shittiness without any of the character.

Exactly. It reminded me of something, but I couldn't come up with it until I read your post. Major tones of Fable.

my power would be to fly the fleet of jets I purchased with my own money (and totally not that government bailout that Wiizer's Sweatshop Inc. received) everywhere I go.
For I am.........THE INNOCENT ACE
Yes I realize the name is ironic, I figured it would give the team more indie/hipster cred. Cause if theres one thing indie douchebags/hipsters love its irony.

Prediction:
All Q1 2010 releases suffer paltry sales due to saturation, resulting in a huge influx of homeless people on the mean streets of Silicon Valley...
Meanwhile, Wii shovelware hits record sales in Q3 2009, many breaking into multi-million sales figures, as nothing else was available...
And finally in Q4 2009, MW2 will eat babies and kill kittens, heralding the apocalypse just 2 years in advance...
...sounds about right.

Don't forget that as soon as all of these bomb in Spring of 2010 the game industry will decided that it was because of Spring 2010 and not because there were 5,000 games released at the same time and go back to releasing everything between November and January.

I kind of like the idea of a LoTR action game like this, and the art style doesn't really bother me.. But the Hobbits look really scary, everything is ultra cartoony, but it looks like they smeared the actors faces across the cartoon bodies.
And yeah, it seems everything is coming Q1 2010 now. It's not going to do any better there than it is this Christmas.

Wow, can someone say Fable? I am not a huge LoTR fan (I enjoy the movies but don't really care about the mythos), so this game being like Fable would make it interesting to me.

@Spartacus: The Hobbit is the best book Tolkien wrote, but in general I find his writing to be sub-par when compared to contemporary sci-fi and fantasy authors. The LoTR trilogy was painfully long, and half of the text was dancing, songs, poems, and historical crap irrelevant to the plot. I tried, I really did, but I think Tolkien is overhyped, mostly because he is considered the "grandfather" of fantasy fiction. Yes, his world is elaborate and he made up a language. That doesn't make his storytelling style any good.
I am however a huge fan of Katharine Kerr.

@Mr Khan: I like rich, detailed environments and histories related to the characters, but Tolkien often rambled about histories that did not even intersect with what we read. They were just pages of crap that didn't have anything to do with anything. I have no problem with a detailed mythos but I want to be given a reason to care about it, especially if it's going to read like a history textbook.
