Wait, but we've been using Xbox Live since its inception! Shouldn't our gamercard have a little seven in the upper right corner? According to Microsoft's Major Nelson, not exactly. In fact, the first ever gamertag created ("e," for Xbox Live operations manager Eric Neustadter), won't officially turn seven until tomorrow. "Your Gold Veteran Status counts full years so if you've been a Gold member for 2 years, 11 months and 27 days; your status will display 2 years," says the Major.
In fact, there's a whole handful of little caveats regarding the tiny gamercard number that have been all layed out in plain English over at his blog. Unfortunately for us, regardless of those caveats, we'll likely never be as cool in Nerdland as Eric Neustadter.

I don't care about this unless they give you an achievement for signing up since the 1st day. And what kind of gamer tag is "e"?

Why a gamerscore?
Why a fancy phone?
Why a Lexus?
These are all things that make us feel better about our materialistic selves.
At least a Lexus has power seats and shows you've got some skills, legal or otherwise, to afford something like that.
Your incredibly high 360 gamerscore and tenure, on the other hand, directly reflect your lack of social skills and physical activity.

If you're under a year, does it show anything? I'm assuming not...

When the Live is Five thing came out, I wasn't counted, in spite of the fact that I've been a member since close to the beginning. I found out that when you change your subscription payment type (I recently got a 1 year card, and use my credit card otherwise), they reset your Live subscription date. At least they did with mine.

I've been using prepaid cards since the beginning. I don't even have a number, I re-upped with a card about 6 months ago :(

Well that's BS. I've been gold since november of 05, but i've always used prepaid cards, so i'm guessing that explains why i don't have a number. Total dick move on MS's part. Oh wait... I forgot it was "charge $30 for a digital download of a 4 year old game" microsoft i was talking about...

It's the true the pricing for the digital downloads are totally warped. You can get all those 2-3 yr old games cheaper in the store! And your retail disc is not linked to your gamertag.
What a terrible idea digital downloads are. Absolutely no incentive to buy these. Epic Fail Microsoft.. You guys dropped the ball bigtime on that.

Is there a way to find out exactly how long you've been a member? Like, when you very first registered for an Xbox Live account? I know the page will say "Member Since", but that only calculates from the last time you renewed your subscription to the service. So for me, it would be 5/2009, and that's not correct.
