WTF? Pics? I wanted video of each prop. :)
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 12th 2009 9:41AM
Just imagine what you would do with said prop in real life and that's what the avatar does with it. The Lightsaber and the R/C Warthog are probably the two that stand out most for me.
whylekat @ Aug 12th 2009 10:55AM
@Storm Eagle
except they cost $4 & $3 respectively.
Waste of money. Go buy a Chinese lunch special and you'll get more interaction and a full stomach. All the props get you is a empty wallet. =P
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 12th 2009 11:14AM
My wallet is actually overflowing a bit.
WINterfang @ Aug 12th 2009 11:16AM
Except the chinese food will dissapear pretty soon and you unlike the props it doesn't make you cool and you can't brag about your lightsaber :D.
brad77 @ Aug 12th 2009 11:21AM
And you'll be hungry in an hour.
whylekat @ Aug 12th 2009 11:23AM
Well yeah I guess.. But come on! Support your local chinamen!!
aristokrat @ Aug 12th 2009 11:51AM
Also, Dude, ‘Chinaman’ is not the preferred nomenclature. Asian American, please.
whylekat @ Aug 12th 2009 12:03PM
He pee'ed on my rug, mannn!
PedoJokerBear (aka Deeznuts) @ Aug 12th 2009 12:57PM
we only rent our food.
The Dark Wayne @ Aug 12th 2009 1:10PM
@whykelat yeah but he'll just be hungry in half an hour. An avatar item lasts forever! ....and so does the shame
docLEXfisti @ Aug 12th 2009 9:44AM
Wow, that light sabre for only 400 points is a real bargain ... just how stupid do they think we are? That's the price of an Retro arcade game on XBLA ... I hope they dont get away with such high prices, though I like the idea of avatar clothes and props, but not with that price tag on it
Young_Nastyman (a.k.a. Thor von Clemson) @ Aug 12th 2009 9:48AM
yeah, seeing that price makes me feel a little better for wanting the guitar for 160
rogXue @ Aug 12th 2009 9:49AM
well when you have people like Storm above that "gave in" I'd say they think we are pretty stupid... and sadly they'd be right. Way to many people go hog wild on the dumbest digital content it amazes me. What will clothing do for you other than make people think you are a douche for spending money on it? I'm not even 30 and I think the younger gen is a bunch of idiots, then again my gen isn't exactly bright on the 360 itself..
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 12th 2009 9:54AM
Well rogXue, when you don't have to worry about charging things to Mommy and Daddy's credit card, 2 or 3 bucks here and there (to me) isn't that big of a deal.
Vcize @ Aug 12th 2009 10:02AM
Yet, you probably pay a mark up on your real life clothing to get some fancy design or logo on there.
I don't plan to buy anything in the avatar marketplace, but anyone belittling those who do or calling them idiots is a hypocritical douchebag, at best.
rogXue @ Aug 12th 2009 10:03AM
Storm, stop an think about how much you could have bought in a year when you add all those $2 and $3 useless purchases up. For $2 more you could have bought a game that you may have played later on. What are you going to do with that shirt once you move on, nothing because it doesn't exist and has no viable use. At least the kids using mommy and daddy's money have a one up on us... they don't feel the burn for a stupid purchase.
Jerk Face @ Aug 12th 2009 10:09AM
I will use my same old argument here:
Last night I went to Chipotle. I bought this bitchin' burrito, and it was six bucks. I also spent five dollars on a Halo UNSC uniform for my avatar last night.
One of those things will be coming out of my ass today, and disappearing forever.
T @ Aug 12th 2009 10:22AM
@ Storm Eagle: Assumption fail. Especially since usually you become MORE responsible with your money once it's actually your money being spent.
And those of us who are responsible don't see the value in spending $5 for a digital representation of a lightsaber that the avatar (according to the store) swings around for like 10 seconds before getting rid of it.
So while you're watching that...I'm going to take those 400 points and go buy and Arcade game, which actually has some play value. I've always wanted the TMNT Arcade game off of live.
And yep, I spend $5 at lunch...or if I decide to get a car wash. But guess what, those have some value. After spending that $5 on lunch, I am now full for a time. By spending that $5, my car is now clean...saving me the time/money of doing it myself in the driveway.
But I spend that $5 on the lightsaber...what do I have to show for it? Nothing.
Vidikron @ Aug 12th 2009 10:34AM
"But I spend that $5 on the lightsaber...what do I have to show for it? Nothing."
You have a virtual lightsaber.
FNG @ Aug 12th 2009 11:01AM
@ Jerk Face...
LOLOLOL
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 12th 2009 11:20AM
But that's just the thing here. If I want it, I'm going to buy it. I don't have to worry about 2 or 3 bucks here and there. And it's not like I'm splurging on this stuff. I've bought two items so far. Whoop-dee-doo. You're also looking at some one who's spent close to $250 on DLC for Rock Band, so $2 on an Avatar shirt is no sweat of my back. If you guys feel it's a waste of money, don't buy it. That's the miracle of having freedom of choice. But don't dare criticize me for doing what I want with the money I work hard for.
brad77 @ Aug 12th 2009 11:27AM
T, you didn't just say that the responsible thing to do was to buy TMNT rather than a virtual lightsaber, did you?
To each his own, I guess.
T @ Aug 12th 2009 11:33AM
@ Storm Eagle: The money you work so hard for and then piss away so easily...
Seriously...let's break it down: The Guitar prop is 160 MSP. That is the same price as the standard RB DLC song. So you're options are:
1) Spend $2 to play a guitar track in RB. (With three other options available)
2) Spend $2 to watch your avatar play with a fake guitar. And then when they release the $2 drum kit buy that too.
Or another example: The Lightsaber prop is 400 MSP. That is the same prices as each of the two Character Packs for Force Unleashed. So there you could:
1) Spend $5 to play as one of the classic Star Wars characters.
2) Spend $5 to watch your avatar pretend to be a Star Wars character.
There's literally NO interactivity with any of the props. That's what's missing. Your avatar stands there with this thing and you just get to watch. There is NO value in it.
aristokrat @ Aug 12th 2009 12:01PM
But its his money! I work so that I can afford to not only support myself but also to have the money to spend impulsively on things I like. How do you know he doesn't make $200,000 a year, which would very much enable him to drop $2 on virtual goods?
The only valid criticism of someone spending their money on these things is if they are doing it instead of feeding their child or something. Otherwise, let him do as he pleases (even if you don't think it's the wisest choice).
Vidikron @ Aug 12th 2009 12:33PM
"There's literally NO interactivity with any of the props. That's what's missing. Your avatar stands there with this thing and you just get to watch. There is NO value in it."
There's no interactivity with a movie either, but people pay for those.
Ben @ Aug 12th 2009 12:50PM
No, but with a movie you get a story.
The Dark Wayne @ Aug 12th 2009 1:21PM
I recently spent 300 dollars on an imported Batman action figure, sure it has interactivity, i can bend his limbs, switch his hands and make him hold a batarang or shoot the batclaw. The point is, a shitload of stuff we buy in real life is just as "useless" as digital stuff, you guys are saying all this stuff about buying designer clothes make you a douchebag but isnt that true in the real world too?
@T clearly he isn't pissing his money away because he sounds like he's thoroughly enjoying it
tenor77 @ Aug 12th 2009 2:57PM
"No, but with a movie you get a story."
Now that's debateable.
Still I am refusing to buy the lightsaber based on principal. That and the downloadable games, as most of those can be found for $20 that are priced at $30. I bought the "Stuck" shirt because it's a dollar, but if we give in to the over priced content they'll just keep it at that price.
LadyBusiness @ Aug 12th 2009 9:40AM
I won't buy anything until I can try on more than one thing at a time.
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 12th 2009 9:42AM
Personally, I think it's a rip that they're selling some of the helmets separate from the rest of the outfits. Like the Clone Trooper and Gears costumes. They should sell them as a set and then give you the option to take the outfit or the helmet off, not make you buy both.
LadyBusiness @ Aug 12th 2009 9:45AM
I agree. Half of a Master Chief outfit isn't helping anybody
Professor Lario @ Aug 12th 2009 10:59AM
@Lady - it's helping MS who knows you'll buy each half. : )
whylekat @ Aug 12th 2009 11:34AM
@Storm Eagle
it's even more of a rip that most shirts are 80ms points but a "shirt&vest combo" is 160ms points. Such a rip! It's should be one set price for tops regaurdless of if it's short sleave / long sleave / jacket / etc.
The pricing of this stuff is too high and too varied.
it should be like example:
Tops: 80 - Pants: 80 - Outfits: 160
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 12th 2009 9:39AM
I gave in and bought the black checkered Quiksilver shorts and the red mummy shirt from that Japanese company in the Styles section - the name escapes me.
FNG @ Aug 12th 2009 10:09AM
I think you and many millions of other people will make MS a lot of money. 400MS points of a light saber?!?! FU MS! But many will really want it and "give in" just like you did and I will soon. And for adults like us who don't have to ask mommy for money, 5 bucks gets blown on shit all the time so why will this be any different. Most people who are posting on joystiq, or any other gaming blog are quite hard core. (except those damn wii fans) I KID! so they can say how they refuse to buy the stuff, but end up doing it anyway. There is enough stuff on the marketplace to get almost everyone to do an impulse buy.
We are all gonna buy something eventually.
Hook, Line, Sinker. Take the bite man...
Jerk Face @ Aug 12th 2009 10:16AM
Exactly! I'm a grown-ass man, and if I want my avatar to be dressed like Obi-Wan with a COG helmet and holding a giant Q-Tip, then God damn it I'm going to do it!
And you know what? It's going to cost me less than a breakfast at Bob Evans.
All you whiney babies can just go back to high school already. It's not the end of the world.
Smoke_me_a_Kipper @ Aug 12th 2009 10:21AM
I gave in too. I was on the preview and the first day took a look @ the marketplace. The eye patch was too much to pass up. However, some of the add-ons are over priced, 400 for a light saber, 360 for a RC warthog. I'd buy the Pom-poms first, at least they made me laugh when my avatar started to cheer dance. Anything over 160 is over priced.
protofunc @ Aug 12th 2009 11:02AM
Add me to the club. I had a few extra MS points laying around so i went out and bought an outfit and hat.
I have to say though.. i was most tempted by the splinter cell outfit and lightsaber. Like mentioned above, having the money easily accessible makes the purchase just another lunch at Panda Express....but at the price, i had to painfully look away and say no.
whylekat @ Aug 12th 2009 11:13AM
@ Jerk Face.
I admit sooner or later I'll probably cave, most likely around Halloween when both my avatar & myself dress like a pirate, but still! $4 could be spent in so many other better ways!
oh and who the f-bomb is Bob Evans?
Neuromancer @ Aug 12th 2009 12:28PM
I look like Guybrush Threepwood and have a chicken with a pulley in the middle, and am not ashamed.
Juan @ Aug 12th 2009 1:13PM
Bob Evans is a retaurant.
xFenixKnightx @ Aug 12th 2009 1:23PM
Ha, I bought the white Gears T the second I saw it. I look, err my avatar looks...cute. :)
Carmine Helmet is next! lol
XBL: xGeneral DEATHx PSN: Deeth82 @ Aug 12th 2009 4:23PM
Did someone say "Splinter Cell"?!?! Goodbye, MS Points...
Rein [Planeteer | Power of Unicorns and Rainbows] @ Aug 12th 2009 6:23PM
I caved in as well. I bought two of the steampunk items and ended up looking like this:
http://avatar.xboxlive.com/avatar/Sheep%20on%20Fall/avatar-body.png
Elranzer @ Aug 13th 2009 1:34PM
So basically, Microsoft has figured out a way to get 15-29 year old males to play with virtual dress-up dolls... and get them to pay for it, too.
Draken Stark @ Aug 14th 2009 3:05PM
Until there's some ligitimate anime based items, there'll be nothing I'll be interested in getting for my avatar. Even though I'm not asian at all. And don't get me wrong, I love me a game of halo and the such. I can't justify any other reason unless it's eye candy that my eyes enjoy.
Game Seizure @ Aug 12th 2009 9:43AM
Ummmm, I wish they would have mentioned the lightsaber before I shot off my mouth about this DLC.....
Can Avatars Dual-Wield...?
I'm imagining some lightsaber/giant Q-tip dual-wielding action....
Ghen @ Aug 12th 2009 9:52AM
That.
Would be awesome.
whylekat @ Aug 12th 2009 12:09PM
No they cannot. Right now there is zero interaction past the stupid avatar sits in a movie theatre while you watch your avatar watch a movie.. Retarded.
