Guitar Hero has absolutely nothing to do with this argument! Why do you keep bringing it into discussion?

If you really want to talk about it, here it goes:

Guitar Hero is pulling bullshit by overcharging us for games with less content.

Rock Band is pulling bullshit by overcharging us for games with less content.

Happy? Now, please, try to justify why it's ok for RB to rip us off. The answer has nothing to do with Guitar Hero, so don't even mention it.

"So, apart from licensing the best, most influential band in the history of ever, creating a whole new game around just them, coding it to do proper three-part harmony, picking an amazing on-disc setlist, and announcing a shit-ton of likely-to-be-awesome DLC, what has Harmonix ever done for us?"

Some of y'all astound me.

Wait, when was "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" confirmed?

I don't think it has "officially," but partway through the NY Times article, the author uses the song as an example of ways the game was built around the Beatles experience rather than reality:

"Quite a few of the more complicated facets of the band’s career have been smoothed over to project what Martin calls a 'fantasy version' of four lads who were always in harmony. You won’t see Eric Clapton playing on 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'..."

So, not confirmed, but it sounds like it will be there. Same with "Something," which was referenced in Boston Globe article on Sunday:

"Olivia Harrison felt that the early storyboards for 'Something,'’ which was originally Indian-themed, didn’t reflect the meaning of George’s song, and encouraged a redesigned dreamscape that connected the curves of a woman and the curves of a guitar."

Of course, that could refer to the version on the Abbey Road DLC. And "A Hard Day's Night" was in the trailer, so the only one I haven't heard anything about is "I'm Looking Through You." Anyone know where that was "confirmed"?

I'm going to buy the game and all DLC with a big smile on my face. To those bitching that this should be included on the disc, they may not even have them anywhere near ready especially considering they will have new venues and dreamscapes included with the downloads. Maybe they just want to sweeten the hype that much more by announcing this.

Only thing I'm worried about is my HDD space.

I'm willing to bet they're pretty much done with the game, and are now working on DLC. After all, they have to get all the instruments made and shipped out before the 9th.

I'm mostly curious how they'll handle segues. Especially side two of Abbey Road.

Just my .02 here, but if you've been following the game updates from harmonix and apple core. As well as the beatles website itself, they all clearly tell you that

1. Sgt peppers lonely hearts club band as well as little help from my friends are included on disc.

2. Songs off of rubber soul as well as abbey road are included as well.

So, honestly. Your getting most of the number one huts off of all three. With the option to have your favorite(but maybe less popular tracks....think obla-Di for me. While not making everyone have those songs taking up space.

And the gh 5/van halen deal is great, so don't throw biased comments my way please.

I have gh and beatles both pre-ordered at Gamestop.
And I also have a pre-order club code for beatles if anyone wants it. (originally pre-ordered with blockbuster. But changed to Gamestop)

trackman64@gmail.com if you want it

To people complaining that RB2 had more songs...

I think songs like "Back in the U.S.S.R." and "Here Comes the Sun" cost a teency bit more than "Night Lies" and "Rob the Prez-O-Dent".

aristokrat, I have to point a few things out from your post...

1) Nobody ever claimed that GH was any better in this regard than RB. You know what happens when one makes assumptions.

2) Why bother pointing out DLC availability on that list? The fact that The Beatles has DLC is what we are complaining about. It's totally irrelevant to what you're trying to say.

3) You sound like you're trying to say that The Beatles are factually and unarguably better than those other bands, and this makes it ok for them to rip us off. First of all, you're treating your (ignorant) opinion as fact, which is always a no-no. Second of all, Aerosmith is my favorite band and I prefer Metallica to The Beatles as well, and I still don't think it's ok for either of their games to rip me off either.

OK, musical taste aside, the Beatles game comes with more tracks from the highlighted artist, and more effort was put into making the game special with regards to the artist. While I didn't mean to imply that the Beatles are a better band than the others in everyone's mind, I was implying that all those songs are hits, while the same cannot be said for every song from the GH band games.

Ultimately, my point was that in my time on Joystiq, I never saw people complain about the price/value of the other band games to the extent that they have about the Beatles, yet the Beatles game seems to offer the most.

And I do think DLC is relevant, because one of the big hype points for GH:Metallica was the availability of Death Magnetic. Therefore, while you're complaining that the DLC should be included on the disc to justify the value, I'm saying the value is there without the DLC option, and the availability of the DLC actually increases the value because you won't burn through all the songs and have nowhere else to go.

And if Aerosmith is your favorite band, you probably agree that that disc was the worst value of all, as many of their legitimate hits were left out (I would've liked to have seen Cryin' or Pink over a lot of what they included).

Here's the difference: I payed $50 for GH1, which had 45 songs, maybe 30 of which I liked. I will gladly pay $60 for RB:B, which will have 45 songs, 45 of which I will like (and I know this even before seeing the other 15 songs that come on the disc). As for GH:A, even if I didn't think Aerosmith was the worst American rock band to ever sell a mind-boggling amount of records in the history of music, it STILL wouldn't be worth even $30 it for me, because it was a), based on the annoying GH3 engine, and b), only had 24 badly-picked Aerosmith songs. Don't even get me started on GH:M, I'm never paying for another Guitar Hero game again. World Tour felt like a beta, no way I'm paying to play on that engine again. Plus, no Trapped Under Ice. Point is, 45 Beatles songs in a Rock Band game are worth $60 for me, and for most people.

If you don't think the game is worth it, don't pay for it, I'm sure at least one of your friends will get it. If none of your friends buy this game, you need new friends.

I have no idea why the media keeps reporting on this... They announced LONG ago that EVERY SINGLE SONG would be on the disc or DLC, including some unreleased stuff. And no, it is NOT compatible with the real game, so who gives a fuck. Who, seriously, wants to ONLY play Beatles songs? If you could use it in RB, sure I'd buy it, but full-priced DLC (and we're talking probably in the $150 range) that can only be used in one game? Um, no thanks. I'll be passing on that.

The Beatles have something like 210 recorded songs, not including various live/BBC/alternate recordings. It would be REALLY BITCHIN' if Harmonix has the rights to the ENTIRE BEATLES CATALOG. I would totally buy the entire Beatles catalog over again for this game. Even if you only include the regular studio albums and the stray singles (they could release Past Masters 1 and 2 to make up for almost all of those), that's still about 175 songs total.

I wonder if this means we'll be getting the Sgt. Pepper's version of Within You Without You as well, giving us two versions of the song.

To all the idiots comparing Beatles Rock Band and Rock Band 2, they are COMPLETELY different games. For one, the Beatles Rock Band has distinct videos for each song individually, not just charting and random color/stage effects for each song, so disc space will actually come into effect here. I won't be surprised if the DLC for BRB takes up a good 150% of what a regular Rock Band song would with comparable length.
Bottom line, if you're tired of spending money on them, why don't you quit wasting time on them too, and go about your business somewhere else, after all "Time is Money". I for one am super hyped for this game and look forward to immensely, everyone have fun in a couple of days!!

We're going to try to keep tabs on all the songs and when they're due to be released over on http://www.beatlesrockbandsongs.com. Looking forward to lots of content getting released after the main game release. DLC is what always keeps me interested in a game and makes me feel like I've gotten my money's worth.
