I agree Deaftly.

I feel like I can live Forever in Sony land. This three to four perhaps even five years in your world is just but a single year in Sonyland. You never grow old and almost live forever. Just like elfs. You do sometimes find your CEO has been fired and expelled to another world from time to time but you blindly merrily enjoy the seemingly never ending year of the PS3.

Well, I'm very surprised about New Super Mario Bros... after so many years, is still in the top 10...

I wonder if New Super Mario Bros. Wii will sell equally.

Gentlemen, I direct your attention to number 6: FRAKKING MARIO KART DS.

I was still in university when that game launched, for the record.

I really don't think NSMB will hit those same numbers. NSMB DS sells so well in part because it's become kind of the game you buy when you get a DS (or Nintendogs or Brain Age, depending mostly on your age and/or gender, I suppose).
Just like Halo 3 with a 360. Or PS3 with...uhm...well, PS3 really doesn't have that game just yet.
Wii already has that game with Wii Sports and then Wii Fit. I can't see NSMB Wii getting that same kind of reception, especially given the relatively 'meh' reaction to it so far.

So it isn't too surprising to see it (and Mario Kart) charting again, considering that it's riding off the back of the newly released DSi. It's obviously appealing to the 30 and under male audience, who I'd bet is primarily buying the DSi at this stage.

True, but it's at least 3 years since it was released. I'm still surprised, no matter how amazing NSMB and Mario Kart DS is, but it's been a long time. I maybe expected a slow burn (possibly low top 20), but not a Top 10 chart position.

I noticed that. I was wondering what the cause of the xbox 360 outselling the ps3 by double was...? Did a new Idol Master come out? The one where you run a maid-cafe?

I wonder how long the sales will remain that high for. If the xbox 360 does do another price cut in the us and overseas, I could potentially see the 200k number staying around for a while. Not sure about the PS3.

Ironically, I'm staying in Japan right now and the technology here is so old its sickening. Everywhere I go, I see nothing but standard definition televisions. During my first 2 weeks of my stay, I've probably visited at least 15 different electronic sections of department stores as my girlfriend is downstairs looking at shoes/clothes and every display for the xbox 360 and/or ps3 has all been standard definition. Many of the kisoks getting the most attention as the ps2 kisoks, which, I think is in part due to both the kisoks looking the same as they are both using standard definition tvs.

When I go to bars, pubs, cafe, restaurants every tv I have seen is Standard Defintion. Every hotel room we've stayed in(4 different places in different cities) has been standard defintion. Its really kind of sad.

The perhaps only interesting thing about Japan's technology is every convenience store and most restaurants have an automatic door to their shop so you dont have to go through the horrible inconvience if using our body weight to push open a door. Emphasis on the joke of horrible inconvience.

TVs, Computers and most electronics are extremely expensive. Japan has an no income tax, but a 5% flat rate tax on all goods. Which sounds initially, like tv, computers and electronics might be cheap but Japan has a Luxury Goods Tax on things like high priced consumer electronic goods, designer hand bags, high-end clothing/makeup, etc. As a result, you end up paying probably 2k-3k for a decent laptop that's already a bit outdated compared to what's available in Canada for $1000-1500. I think its also due to import taxes/tarrifs since almost everything now days is made in Taiwan or China and not really Japan much anymore.

I mean, if you think about big names in the computer industry such as Microsoft, Nvidia, Intel, ATI, Asus, Palit, Samsung, Sharp, GE, LG, Acer, Western Digital, Seagate, Antec, Corsair, OCZ, AMD, Logitech, D-link, Kingston, Buffalo, Hewlett Packard, Dell, etc, how many of these company names are Japanese? Not one. A few Japanese companies that come to mind are Sony, Nintendo, Mitsubishi, Toshiba. Really, the computers from these companies sans Nintendo are made using parts generated by American/foreign to Japan owned companies. They just assemble the parts and usually don't assemble them in Japan.

Anyways, that's my rant about the oddness of PS3/Xbox 360 sales. I think they don't sell well because the Japanese haven't yet moved into High Defintion. Heck, the average tv size I've seen here has been under 22" and people on the internet forums get into huge bi***ing matches about whether 1080p at 22" looks better than 720p or 480p

Man, I must be tired. These are the NPD sales for North America. Not for Japan. Ah, that makes a lot more sense why the xbox 360 outsold the ps3 by a large margin, the xbox 360 version of the same football game trounced the ps3 version, the xbox 360 appears on the top 10 list twice versus the ps3 that appeared only once. All is as usual.

Why?? I mean seriously...that just shows the gaming audience is widening. a LOT of people that buy a Wii get 2-3 things....Wii Fit, Mario Kart, Super Mario Galaxy, or Wii Play....people that buy a DS damn near get the same thing as well...with Mario Kart and NEw Super Mario Bros leading the way....

Now if we had BIG games like Batman, MW2 & Uncharted 2 out and Those Wii games were still in the top 5 like that then I suppose their would be something to worry about

It doesn't really help Sony much does it?

Now, if Microsoft invested in Tomatoes, and Sony was always play "ketchup" Microsoft would benefit from the hard work of their mortal console enemy. If Sony invests in Tomatoes, they're investing in a product they're also spending money on. It's like investing a fortune into a game then buying 500,000 copies for yourself, It just doesn't make as much sense.

Also, this generation everyone is playing catchup to Nintendo and their giant money vault.
