Hey you, have we met before? BioWare has updated the Mass Effect 2 website with a few new screenshots, and we can't help but notice this green character unmentioned in the first game. Clearly he (she? it?) is of some importance, as BioWare has decided to showcase the character in not one, or two, or three or four screenshots -- but five. (Update: Readers have pointed out this character can be seen in this video and is named Thane.)
This screen also shows a Krogan teammate, which we're assuming is Wrex because we totally didn't shoot him in the face.

Isn't that the assassin guy who drops down in that one cutscene and snaps some dude's neck? If it is, we already knew he was a playable character.

What if that isn't Thane? or do all Drell look alike to you? Specist!

I think he's just the same species. I got the impression that Shepherd was tracking down the assassin, that he was an enemy, not a teammate.

I thought he was hunting Thane down because he's such a skilled assassin that he needs him for the mission that he's going on. Not 100% but that's the gist that *I* got.

OXM had an interview with Ray Muzuka or the Casey hudson or whoever as well as a regular type cover story and it said Thane is a possible party member, and the so is the krogan who is named grunt. I say possible because the way the interviewed guy made it sound, just about anything could happen in the game, thane could be a party member, he could fight you, you could kill him, game characters could be party members or maybe not it all depended on what you say

Clearly, the only way to settle the dispute of whether the assassin was friend or foe is to replay mass effect. Clearly, a marathon gaming session is required. After all, what else will do while waiting for the star wars kotor mmorpg, mass effect 2, rage(possibly) and the other games all probably going to come out leading up to x-mas?

That is NOT Wrex - This Krogan does not have Urdnot Wrex nor his distinct scars - This is a much younger Krogan. Possibly a female.

Exactly, this is another Krogan mercenary I believe who was in the Mass Effect Revelations books. Also, the new enemy the say they will face is a new race who keep kidnapping weird specimens of all races(rather they give a lot of money/tech in exchange for the specimens) & then completely disappear.
They are known as the Collectors I believe & live just outside the Terminus system which is the place I believe the Normandy is shown being wrecked.

Does the Mass Effect mythos involve proto-humans being placed on various planets and then evolving differently like so many other sci-fi series? All these aliens that look almost human feel very unrealistic to me. Krogans I can see happening but the Asari are just blue humans with head tentacles, and this new guy isn't much better.

nope, i thought the same thing about the protheans at first, that they were just gonna be another Forerunner nad humanity would be them, but they are humanoid squid faced mother fuckers. They did however apparently monitor humanity if not more, but keep in mind there are plenty of non humanoids, like the Hanar or the err, the elephant guys and the space dwarves. But really depending on which science newsletter you subscribe to, some scientists theorize that life be similar throughout, it's not that hard to imagine amphibians on Earth eventually becoming bipedal id say

If life is possible on other planets (I say if, because I read some books on the subject (science books, research papers, and not intelligent design stuff) and the current outlook doesn't look so good), I agree that it wouldn't look super different from what's on earth. Whatever evolved independently on earth (like wings, bipedalism), probablly exists elsewhere. Something intelligent is going to need to have free appendages for manipulating things but really, some kind of octopus creature seems just as likely too. Whatever, anyway, that guy has the same lips as a human.

Yes, you're right about the other, less-human species. I guess my problem is really just with the asari and this new race having such similar faces. If organisms with endoskeletons just work better with four appendages due to how bone and muscle structures work, then I can see bipedalism being common among intelligent species since they need movers (legs) and shakers (arms).
This guy has some pretty kickass alien designs http://abiogenisis.deviantart.com/

If they had problems with people thinking there was gratuitous porn in the game, when really, it was just an ass shot... Just imagine the all out war they'd have on their hands if Sheppard fucked an "elephant man/woman"...

You have to do the bare minimum of quests up until you get her in your party. Do only what you must to get to whatever planets she's on. I can't remember the name, it's been over a year since I played waiting on dlc.
But yeah, go staight to her asap. Then do every quest in the game.

I'm embarrassed to say this, but I've had Wrex so many times, his skin, facial structure, muscular structure, eyes, and everything is..ingrained into my head; to my point, this is not Wrex. Take not of the lighter skin color, the lighter texture of red on this one's head, as juxtaposed with Wrex's harsher/rougher textured head; as well, this Krogan has a lighter yellow compared to Wrex, his/her hump is smaller, and there is a distinct lack of a scar. Take a gander at his/her lips, as well; they lack the rougher texture, and dark red tint when compared to Wrex's.
...yes, I have studied every frakkin' part of Wrex. So sue me. Anyways; point is, that does not = Wrex. As well, Thane looks to be interesting, in ME2; can't wait for this one. D: The wait is killer.
There are many other members who's info are yet to be released; like the Salarian Scientist, Psychotic/Possibly insane Criminal Biotic, Who's name and gender, plus species, is all up for Speculation. Thane and Grunt, featured here, are possible. Amongst Jacob Taylor, and Miranda Lawson. Looks to be an expansive game, indeed.

As well, just to mention, behind Wrex's eyes, there are dark-looking spots, while this one has lighter, obviously-not-darkish looking texture around/behind the eyes. Just a note. >->

And if you noticed Wrex's neck, you could see his is a lot more bloated when juxtaposed to this one's lesser-bloated neck. And..I'm done mentioning the obvious differences...Eh heh. Sorry. I just..noticed a lot about Wrex.
