Ubisoft announced today that World War II-themed card game Panzer General: Allied Assault is ready to draw from a deck of destruction this fall on XBLA. The game is being developed by Petroglyph and is a different take on the strategy game classic, to which Ubisoft apparently gained the rights after the most recent installment back in 2000.
Along with the digital game, Petroglyph will also release a physical board game with 240 action and unit cards. The game is being called a "lite" WWII game and will also be available this fall for $60. We're currently following up with Ubisoft to see if the game will be playable at GamesCom.

Why do companies keep releasing these card battle games with real life components? Are they really that marketable/profitable/good?
And yeah JS, you almost got me with the "Panzer" in the title. I was looking for "Dragoon" but like usual, it was nowhere to be seen.

I dunno about card games, but wargames (which Panzer General originally was) are very good and can be marketable given the developer finds an unorthodox publisher and makes a very good tutorial that can draw even the most tactical-inept gamer.
I'd actually like to see a non-dumbed down remake of another wargame called Steel Panthers 2. I had so much fun back in the day playing scenarios like defending Hokkaido from the Soviets as the JSDF or spearheading an attack on Warsaw Pact lines as part of a Canadian armored division.

I wonder if Richard Mitchell didn't have the heart to write the article because he was so disappointed. One of these days it will come out! They'll run out of older games and they'll be forced to re-release it! (heres hoping)

God forbid Mankind begins another epic world war, but if we DO, please let it be in orbit, or completely under water, or on the Moon or something.

Yeah, game devs need to be reminded that there are other theatres and times that need a look, like the Soviet war in Afghanistan, Arab-Israeli Wars, Iran-Iraq War, Boer War, the Warlord era in China and many other interesting conflicts that haven't been touched at all.

Yes, let's kill millions of human beings so that Magic Whiskey can play something else. Freaking douche bags like you fail to see that fact that video gaming might have never been had brave scared young men gave their lives to fight Fascism. Ungrateful bastard. ;)

It looks like it's moved more toward something like Memoir '44 or Tide of Iron.

Your comments make me feel old. Panzer General is a classic strategy series on PC. More classic than Dragoon.
I'm actually excited about this.

At first I skimmed the article and nearly had a heart attack after reading 'XBLA' and '$60' in the same article. Then I re-read it. Crisis averted.
I'm kinda excited for this. I liked Panzer General, so hopefully this'll be good too.

who buys this rubbish ? why spend £40 on this rubbish when you can get a board game which is better than this for only £2.50 at a boot sale

The world needs more turn-based strategy games, even if they are set in WWII.

I agree 100%. Turn based games can easily be as fun their live action counterparts. I own Ticket To Ride, Catan, and Carcassonne on the 360 and I find myself playing them more often than any other game in my collection. I just wish more people would give them a chance and learn how to play and enjoy them.
