id Software just unveiled the new trailer for Rage, which, to our eyes, combines high-quality visuals and exciting action with some mid-'90s-level cheese. It's hard for us to look at those characters without imagining them asking us if we want some rye. ("'Course ya do!") It's cutting-edge and nostalgic at the same time!
QuakeCon attendees will actually have the opportunity to play Rage, but the rest of us can savor the apocalyptic Wild West-ish setting and buggy combat (as in, dune buggies, not software issues) in the trailer above.
Looks awesome, but something about the way peoples skin and flesh move/appear just screams doom 3 to me, ESPECIALLY the eyes (when will they ever get them right?)
everything else just looks beautiful. like everyone else said, its fallout 3 with really really really good looking environments with some vehicles thrown in.
While the graphics were mind-blowing, I didn't think the animation was that great. Apparently nobody else cares, because reviews never mention animation, but I've been a pretty serious gamer for a long time now, and at this point I've just grown a little tired of graphics engines. I'd really prefer worse graphics with more fluid, believable motion.
Nobody stands as stock-still as that guard at the gate. You don't just move your head when you're talking to someone: your entire body has to get into it. Shoulders, hips; everything needs a little motion to make it feel believable. And even as a non-smoker, I've never seen someone stretch their fingers out like that when they're holding a cigarette; that would get tiring fast. The rest of the animations were okay, but too sharp; like they just straight mo-capped it without going back to add weight and follow-through.
I'm sure I'll still get the game - can't pass up a Carmack engine - but it's such a shame that the focus is on graphics, when truly fluid motion would do so much more to draw a player into the world.
the animations are better than fallout 3 which had a small set of stock animations which were poorly done. but i do know what youre talking about. mgs4 had amazing animations like characters had proper weight but then games like wet, bioshock they have somewhat cartoony animations (maybe unproper speeds or something)
what i've noticed tho is that japanese games generally have much better animations compared to american games.
dmc4/ff13/mgs4/re5 = amazing animations proper motion even as the models performing uncommon actions. (basically the animations look more realistic in these games as characters are doing floating backflips than american games doing simple things like walking or picking up an item)
F3 is some time -after- the bombs went off. 100 years or something like that. In fact, your character was born in the vaults after the bombs went off, so it can't be like you say.
I think they meant that fallout 3 seemed like people hadn't quite made it past the "struggling to survive" point whereas in Fallout 2 they had whole towns and economies.
Also *SPOILER* The main character wasn't born in the vault which is why the mutated FEV affects you as well *SPOILER*
Pretty awesome trailer, but a rip-off of Fallout 3. I doubt they copied each other though, being that probably both Fallout 3 and this were in development around the same time.
did they solve the 360 space issue yet? there was a lot of hubbub from Carmack complaining that they couldn't do 3 discs without having to sacrifice cash and MS wouldn't budge on the 3 disc thing. they said it would look worst on 360 if they had to go to 2 discs, which is bullshit. I won't put up with that.
All ignorant dumb fucks saying it's a Fallout 3 Rip Off are fucking morons.
RAGE and FO3 share a common theme: POST-APOCALYPSE
Lot's of older games, films, novels, comics, music, art have portrayed this theme. I don't see how RAGE would even be a rip off of Fallout 3.
Like Fallout 3, Rage takes inspiration from the novel The Penultimate Truth by Phillip K. Dick.
If Rage had a Pipboy like mascot and those cinematic slow mow effects where you can target body parts then you could say its a Fallout 3 rip off. This I can assure you is not a rip off.
Someone needs to gather up these ignorant sheep and put em near a cliff. It's sad that a large percentage of gamers are meatheads that can't fucking think.
People also need to realize that aside from the themes the type of game is completely different. Fallout 3 was at heart an RPG, with a slapped on fps combat system that used vats to limp along. Rage is a first person shooter, and it is designed to be an FPS from the ground up. You can't really compare the two, any more than you can compare pokemon to half-life.
