I'm happy they are making a VC2 but clearly they gave up on the PS3 and moved it to the PSP my point isn't about wii games but it's the same company SEGA isn't going to give up on the Wii with hardcore games but have no problems giving up on the PS3 in some cases.(excluding Bayonetta)

Arrogant is the wrong word. They're finding a comfortable niche in there, as well as a few hits, and their Wii efforts tend to be better received than their PS360 efforts (Valkyria Chronicles aside)

i believe it's more arrogant to keep making a certain style of game ("hardcore") for a platform that clearly doesn't cater to that particular style of game, just so you don't have to admit you we're wrong.

here's a ittle something that saruto iwata and reggie fil aime all told us my friend. the Wii is EVERYONE'S console. meaning it's not just for casual gamers. nor is it just for hardcore gamers. its for ALL gamers of ALL ages. you know, if people used the noodle then they wouldn't make asses of themselves.

I'm still lost on how The Conduit is doing better than MadWorld and HotD: Overkill, seeing as they are far superior games when compared to the Conduit.

Am I missing something here?

It wouldn't make sense for SEGA not to make 'core' games. In the days of SEGA vs Nintendo, SEGA ventured out into the world of blood and gore on a gaming console, and it gave them the gaming appeal, along their bizzare gaming advertising. Sony tore a page from SEGA's book on advertisting to the teenage audience. And it worked. Nintendo was family friendly in their image, SEGA was teen based.

GUYS guys Don't you think you're taking this too seriously?

So some people say Sega makes bad games so what?

Let them think what they want!

People have reason to not like Sega. It's not that I don't like Sega, I do like them, I just don't like what they're doing with Sonic.

It's nothing to get upset about because there are not many hardcore games on the Wii. Wii is built around family fun and gathering gaming. Whether a game is hardcore or not shouldn't matter, it matters if it's fun. Don't forget Wii's making a big comeback next year:

Namely

New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Metroid: Other M

I mean it's just video games stop making a controversy out of it and just have fun with what you have!

It would have sold well if madworld was any good but its mindless and boring. Give us something good and you will see high sales. Wii owners are repressed for good games with the influx of garbage ware out there.

everyone knows core games like "madword", "monster hunters 3" or "no more heroes" rightly belong on xbox or ps3. but more and more, they are ending up on wii instead, and god forbid, DS.

i guess the dangling carrot is too much of a temptation. the combination of cheap development cost and huge install base (of casual gamers) led them to forego xbox/ps3. that would be what i call "arrogant"

of course, in the end, no one really gets a full bite at the carrot other than nintendo.

Umm, no. They would have done worse, especially considering the controls for MadWorld and No More Heroes.

Also, they are incredibly NICHE games, no matter the system, they would still have sold less than expected. Its just like Okami.

MadWorld and No More Heroes are both brawlers. They never sell particularly well any more. They haven't since the 16 bit days. And Monster Hunter 3 is doing stupidly well so far. It's already the best selling 3rd party Wii game ever in Japan, and it has only been out for 2 weeks.

@roto13: best selling 3rd party wii game isn't actually saying much, compared to other monster hunters games, it's apparently not doing too well.

@archigamer 2.0: you're comparing the best performing 3rd party core games on wii and the worst on ps2. these games would be niche on wii, and will fit perfectly on the other 2 consoles.

i'm not saying there's no potential payoff for the developers. there is. since the installed base for wii/ds is much larger than the other consoles. it's just that i think developers are definitely watering down their games.

Rocketboy, you can say that all you want, but no one has any idea a game is repetitive before buying it. Perhaps they've read a review, but marketing is the real reason a game will sell - that and a big name. Halo Wars, had it been called whatever they were going to call it in the beginning, would not have sold very well at all. As it is, they stamped on Halo and it sold like hotcakes. My point is that it doesn't matter if a game is good or not - word of mouth and marketing sell games.

I think it's wrong if a publisher puts a 'hardcore' game on the Wii and expects it to achieve PS360 potential sales numbers at this point, for the most part.

The problem is that the Wii never had it's hardcore audience properly grown, I'm starting to think. So it's wrong to put these new or niche IP games on the system and expect them to sell they way a AAA blockbuster on PS360 would.
Games like The Conduit and MadWorld are effectively attempting to do the job of growing the Wii's hardcore base...but that should have fallen to the job of more mainstream games like a proper Resident Evil or a Devil May Cry or something.
We know the audience for 'hardcore' games is on the Wii, but it's either hyper-focused and small or hasn't been properly cultivated yet.

That said, games like MadWorld and HotD in particular approaching the 300k mark, even if it's as a discount price, is fairly impressive, if you ask me, given that these games are basically being fueled off of forum and blog hype primarily.

The way I see it is that if third parties want to have a 'hardcore' surefire success on the Wii, they either have to start putting the AAA mainline franchises on the system that are sure to bring people in OR they have to target the hardcore audience that is already there — the Nintendo fanboy audience.
I STILL can't believe that we have never seen a top notch Mario or Zelda clone in however many years it's been since someone last tried (except Okami, which Capcom just didn't handle right, IMO).

It's bizarre, really, in an industry that thrives off of cloning successful games/genres. Maybe Warren Spector's Mickey Mouse game will fit that bill as far as a Mario clone game goes. The initial reaction to the concept art was certainly in the right direction.
By that same line of thinking, it's no secret that Ubisoft's Rabbids have been a breakout success, either...or why the Nintendo base is eagerly awaiting Rabbids Go Home, in spite of having absolutely no reason to trust Ubisoft at this point.

I regard Okami as one of the best 'Zelda clones' per se, in going as far as saying it almost matches the level of OoT, and would have sold many more copies if Capcom managed to do extensive marketing. It was a really good game that no one has heard of, and that kind of sucks, especially considering I wouldn't mind a Okami 2. :(

I honestly think that if Capcom went all out and made Okami II for the Wii, they would have a hit on their hands.
Okami sold pretty damn well on the Wii, given that it was a 2 year old port with no promotion of a game that flopped on the PS2. It didn't beat the PS2 version, according to Capcom, but it's apparently surpassed the 250k mark in the USA by now. Not sure what the Euro sales were like.

The interest for the series is definitely there, but the onus is on Capcom to get people interested in it. Hell, Bioshock was a flop on the PS3 by the same measure that Okami was a flop on the Wii, really. But no one blames Bioshock PS3's comparatively low numbers on the PS3 itself.

It's also apparently getting a Japanese release finally. I'm hoping (although I'm not expecting by any means) that this means that Maybe Capcom Japan is interested in the franchise again and/or we might actually be getting a sequel soon.

I think hardcore games are possible on the Wii, but developers can't just assign some shit-ass team to make it. Yes, it's true a lot of really good developers just completely ignore the Wii, but all it takes is one good game to get the console in motion. Ala, PSP and Monster Hunters.

I can understand why Sega is doing this.
Take the Conduit for example it is a pretty average FPS if you compare what is available on 360/PS3.

Madword was a great concept but poorly implemented e.g. dull and repetitive gameplay, and too short around 4 - 5 hrs.

Sega knows these properties would not sell on the other 2 consoles

Bleh to MadWorld. Dopey, "EXTREME!!!" beat 'em up. I felt dumber for having played this Double Dragon '09. Maybe that's ok for WiiWare, but for a full-priced title? Nah.

The Wii is a natural platform for First Person Shooters with the Metroid Prime 3 control scheme; why aren't we seeing a ton of these? Playing a FPS on any other console is a painful experience.

Note to sega:
"hardcore" games sell really well on the Wii. (Several CoD games, Metroid Prime, etc...)
Niche hardcore games won't sell as well. Try Move, TV licenses.

Want some advice Sega?

Here is what you do:

Get on the phone to Nintendo and ask them if you can have the license for a new F Zero game, and point out how good a job you did on the Gamecube.

Then proceed to make a good F Zero game on the Wii and attempt to get a 30 player online play mode.
