Analyst: July Wii hardware sales lowest since launch

Of course, Schachter didn't mention the Wii's position relative to its competitors. Considering that the Wii's worst month ever meant that it plummeted into the #1 position among home consoles, and #2 overall behind the DS, it's possible that Nintendo could see this a bit differently from analysts and ... price drop enthusiasts.

Ben Schachter?
Really, Michael Pachter? The best alias you could come up with rhymes with your real name? I'm on to you!

It's like Crentist the Dentist.

MIKE PACHTER!
Psychic in disguise.
MIKE PACHTER!
More than meets the eye.

I was waiting for Broadpoint AmTech analyst Ben Schachter to gives us his opinion.

actually the whole industry is ending.
Rob S. @ Aug 14th 2009 3:13PM
Yeah Shag, if you haven't noticed, Sony and Microsoft are also hurting bad when it comes to hardware sales.
Shagittarius @ Aug 14th 2009 3:45PM
But Sony and Microsoft are used to lean times they will get by. Without the additional cash, Nintendo will have a hard time buying all the Hentai and Dried Whale penis that Miyamoto goes through every day and then Nintendo is teh D00m3d without his creativity!
t_m @ Aug 15th 2009 5:38AM
Finally, after 4 or so years on joystiq, Shag has made me laugh (in a good way!)
Jester41K @ Aug 14th 2009 1:11PM
Not really that surprising. It's the middle of summer and systems been out for a while. Kids are outside, Tell me this come November and then I'll raise an eyebrow.
Mr Khan @ Aug 14th 2009 1:12PM
I would assume that the initial sell-through of Wii Sports Resort would be to existing Wii owners. The game needs good word of mouth to work its way around outside the userbase and start to increase hardware sales, a process that could take some time. It would be a small segment of the market (if any) who would buy Wii for such a game right at it's launch.
But as for a price drop, i think that Nintendo's going to ride out their fiscal year with what they have, for one last holiday rush at the current price (and this time, a holiday season with the market fully-stocked with Wiis in all quarters), and then it would be kind of stupid (and more than a little mean) to immediately cut the price after the holiday season, so April, the start of their next fiscal year, would be the best time to do it.
Cody @ Aug 14th 2009 3:04PM
Another highly intellectual and logical comment Mr. Khan. Well said!

Nothing to add here. Just wanted to copy/paste this and read it one more time.

Umm, I don't think he meant it as spam, he's just using the video as reference for the song. Chris is good people and I don't think he intentionally put a spam-filled video as a post.
Thank YOU very much.

how the fuck is that spam??
its not a link to anything other than a video....people do that all the time...
I could see if it was to my own personal blog or something....
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 14th 2009 1:45PM
Chris, there was a link tagged to the video requesting that you clicked it to make a bunch of money and some other B.S. I know you were just using the link to reference the song but he just didn't get it.
He's obviously some sort of jackass....

Let us put an end to the fad known as the Wii. The most over-inflated casual, fitness oriented, and diarrhea stream of shit 3rd party games console EVER.
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 14th 2009 2:01PM
I like this one, he has potential.
N3M3515 @ Aug 14th 2009 2:07PM
Totally agree; let's all say good bye to novelty gaming for good. Truly a shit system, the Wii.
uncle jesse @ Aug 14th 2009 2:15PM
The end of the Wii fad?
Um, you guys do know that both Sony and Microsoft are coming out with their own motion sensor gaming peripherals, right?
In the words of Shang Tsung, "It has begun!"
Look At This Suit @ Aug 14th 2009 2:29PM
Both Natal and Sony's (Unnamed?) motion sensing peripheral have the potential to eclipse what the Wiimote has accomplished.
Rob S. @ Aug 14th 2009 3:05PM
Doesn't mean they both aren't stupid, useless gimmicks to appeal to the casual crowd, thus taking us further and further away from where we were.
Cody @ Aug 14th 2009 3:07PM
"I like this one, he has potential."
And remember guys, tmac doesn't hate Nintendo, just bad games. He calls it how he sees it.
Bullshit is bullshit tmac, and you post it by the minute.
Mr Khan @ Aug 14th 2009 5:20PM
I think tmac was being partly facetious, in assessing yet another noobie Nintendo troll (which we seem to be fairly swamped with as of late)
I don't see much potential for growth in this one, though. He's not specific enough, just another face in the Wii-hating crowd.
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 14th 2009 7:31PM
See Khan gets me, that's why I like him.
t_m @ Aug 15th 2009 5:42AM
"Both Natal and Sony's (Unnamed?) motion sensing peripheral have the potential to eclipse what the Wiimote has accomplished."
Following usually gives you that potential. ;-)
MinimumWageNinja @ Aug 15th 2009 1:48PM
Let me get this straight. I do not hate Nintendo. I am not a Nintendo troll. I actually love their "real" games on the Wii, such as Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid, etc.but as a whole the system sucks. Yes, I understand Microsoft has natal and Sony's unnamed motion project, but at least that's not ALL they have. Okay, that's all I have to say on the subject. If you enjoy the Wii, more power to you. But quite frankly, I'm tired of walking into Best Buy and having to shovel through 1000s of crap bargain games before I find a good one.
MinimumWageNinja @ Aug 15th 2009 2:02PM
And I don't think I've ever properly greeted myself to this fellow Joystiq community. I've read on here for years, but never commented. I'm commenting more and more now, however. I may have gotten myself off on the wrong foot judging by these responses, but know I own Xbox/PS3/PSP/Wii/DS and am not bias. I sat in line at Target for my Wii at launch like many others, but the Wii isn't what it once was. I'm loving the DSi, though.
Protodude @ Aug 14th 2009 2:37PM
So the Wii's sale drop off a little, but it continues to outsell the other systems, and this is the call for doom and gloom?
Pathetic.
Your HD twins are ALSO selling more poorly, and always HAVE sold more poorly overall. Does that mean they are on the way out too?
Nightwish @ Aug 14th 2009 6:20PM
don't bother pointing logic to epenis fanboys.
TwEE @ Aug 14th 2009 2:50PM
"we expect a September cut".. Not going to happen
johnny @ Aug 14th 2009 3:24PM
you work at nintendo? the wii is overpriced for the tech it offers. they dont even have hd components. i think nintendos sales will go down this year as opposed to last christmas season. a price cut will help but without one ms and ps3 will begin to play catch up
TwEE @ Aug 14th 2009 3:49PM
Ha ha, you're funny. They say hope springs eternal, but you shouldn't let it.
CJLopez @ Aug 14th 2009 2:53PM
Well, this only mean that the machine works perfectly and no one need to buy a second or third console to keep on playing the games they like.
Besides, i'm pretty sure japanese sale numbers hadn't been taken in account here
Rob S. @ Aug 14th 2009 3:17PM
What is the job description for an Analyst job any way? Is it like:
Wanted: One Analyst.
- Must be able to state the obvious.
- Must be able to make shit up about the future.
- Must not be afraid to sit on ass and eat Cheetos all day while making lots of money from dim wits.
t_m @ Aug 15th 2009 5:48AM
- name that ends in -ter.
jcar302 @ Aug 14th 2009 3:19PM
I'm guessing either everyone that wants one, has one, or society has finally realized that the wii is a novelty system, good for party's to keep kids busy but otherwise useless.
The games suck, the graphics suck, online play sucks, and it doesn't even play dvd's which sucks.
When a price drop occurs on the PS3, my wii will be getting sold and replaced.
I'd sell it now, but it was a gift, and i'd prefer to replace it immediately with something similar, so at least i don't have to feel too guilty.
Rob S. @ Aug 14th 2009 3:22PM
If it was a gift then it cost you nothing, so why sell it? What kind of insensitive bastard sells a gift that was given to them? You should at least keep it in your closet or something.
Protodude @ Aug 14th 2009 4:20PM
If there's one thing I've learned from this console generation, is that you should never sell a console; something eventually comes out on it that you'll find interesting.
Keep the Wii, wait for something to your liking to arrive, have fun.
Mr Khan @ Aug 14th 2009 5:22PM
No, no, it doesn't work like that. The course of action for when good games come to the Wii is bitch about why they're not coming to PS360, and don't buy them, and then continue to complain about your dusty Wii.
This is the course of logic.
t_m @ Aug 15th 2009 5:50AM
but what happens if you sell it and then you have a party... oh, never mind.
korwyn @ Aug 14th 2009 5:36PM
so those housewives got divorce and play FPS to release their anger on their ex husbands these days?
Adv2k1 @ Aug 14th 2009 5:24PM
Add black color. drop price to $199 and add a demo disk of a bunch of games and things will pick up dramatically .
Dv8thwonder @ Aug 14th 2009 6:17PM
3 keys to Nintendo dominance in Q4, price drop to $199; color options and Wii Sports Resort /Motion plus bundle. This will cause pandemonium.
AlphaOmegaSin @ Aug 14th 2009 6:30PM
Its slowing down cause there isnt much coming out for it and you can find em used now :P None of the wii owners give a shit about any of the good stuff sega has been releasing so thats out the door, and the Big N is more concerned with grabbing up all that casual gamer cash while its still there before crawling back to the faithful nintendo kids and saying ummmm new mario? new metroid? please....just....please? maybe earthbound, or uh ummm oo oo Kid Ikarus?
Im fine playing my DS least they havent fucked that up much
t_m @ Aug 15th 2009 5:48AM
Gah! Now it's only increasing it's lead by less than it's been increasing it's lead for 3 straight years. I knew I should have sold my nintendo shares!
I hope nintendo releases a Wii HD next year for $199 with built in motion plus... that'd be worth it just for the laughs...
